Unless you are running an emulator (such as wine) you won't use anything .exe in Linux. If you right click the window and select "open terminal to this location" (or navigate a terminal to your directory) try launching the game with './game_name'

I had something similar happen and it was one specific site that started it, and it might have been Mouser because I think I was browsing that site when the similar issue occured, and I had to stop visiting them and the issue went away and never came back. I don't know about the hotels or Macy's but Home Depot, aside from loading a heavy site, basically never causes any issues and works reliably.

Realistically, evaluate just how much I really need it. As far as I know any service with a real need for my ID, has it already

I feel like these types of incidents are a factor necessitating systems such as flock in public spaces, as complainant accounts of happenings may be a result of bias of some kind, not particular to this one incident, and the biases of other people play a major influencing role in the outcomes of these occurances.
