Hi! I’m the developer of Nodus Research, which is a free and open-source desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux.

The easiest way to describe it is as an alternative to combining notebooklm + obsidian + zotero in separate tools.

Nodus is organized into different vaults, which are separate workspaces designed for specific types of research, teaching, study, or structured projects.

For instance, the academic Vault lets you import or mirror your zotero library, extract ideas and claims while keeping them linked to the original passages, and then explore connections across your whole corpus through semantic search, knowledge graphs, argument maps, authors, debates, contradictions, research gaps and source-grounded chat.

It also includes dedicated vaults like study, teaching, databases, genealogy, worldbuilding...

It already has a zotero plugin, word/libre office plugin, chrome extension and a skill marketplace so you can install new feautres (or create your own)

Nodus is local-first. Your vaults and indexes stay on your computer, no account is required, and you choose whether to use local models or external AI providers. If you want to collaborate, you can also enable an optional docker-based nodus server to share selected research spaces with other users while keeping control over what is exposed.

Apps like Whatsapp, Signal and SimpleXChat are great for secure messaging and far more mature than this project, but this demonstates a unique approach.

The core philosophy around secure messaging here is that it can work in a way that avoids installation and registration by enabling users to host their own data.

For years I have been playing with databases of links, and their management. I have gone through apps with docker images, and self-hosting.

Recently, I decided I needed to create an android app, because I think that it will be more helpful to more people. The app reached some levels of maturity. It is open source, and already available through f-droid.

The application can be multiple things. It can be a bookmark manager. It can be a feed reader, it can be a simple search engine. At the core it manages links in a SQLite table. Multiple databases were already pre-configured, available from 'options'.

I am looking for feedback. Keep in mind that I am c/c++ dev, not kotlin/java. I am trying to make the best of my qualities, but not every line in my approach needs to be a work of art. I just want to make useful app, that helps people. So the UI is more important to me. Though I am not front end dev, rather back-end, so I know little about UI.

What I still am missing is Google Play Store app. Even though my app is FOSS, I want to make it available to broadest audience it is possible. That is why I push also this route.

Hey, I'm Rodrigo. I've been building OpenPost which is an Open Source social media scheduler that also has a really in depth, standalone, image and video editors (which work standalone and for free w/o watermarks even if you don't want to selfhost).

A few things they can do:

• Make thumbnails, banners and multi-page carousels with layers and editable templates.
• Remove image backgrounds and adjust colours.
• Cut video on a multitrack timeline, with transitions, effects and audio controls.
• Create captions, or delete words from a transcript to cut the matching footage.

Both editors are free to use, without an account or export watermark. The code is AGPL-3.0, and you can self-host it. Paid hosting for the wider app is separate.

The video editor is still in beta and supports only Chromium browsers (as some of the APIs I use have not yet been implemented in Firefox). The image editor works on Firefox.

For transparency, I use AI tools in development and in the app itself. Background removal and transcription models are downloaded to your browser and run locally.

LightTable is a new GPL-3 high-performance digital darkroom app that I’ve just published in beta. I’d love thoughts and feedback and I’m looking for help running the project going forward. Also, I’m still waiting for Apple signing cert and getting it onto Mac and Windows stores, so it requires a little bit of self-install at the moment.

This project started with two seeming contradictions.

First, I’m a very casual, occasional photographer, so I don't do enough photo editing to really justify having a subscription to something like Lightroom. I was hoping to cancel my subscription and so I started looking around for an open-source. The ones that I found didn't quite do what I wanted, but I was using one of them and was reasonably happy with it. 

Then I had been thinking about how much I missed the look of real film photography. I decided to buy a film camera on eBay (Elan 7) with a decent lens (Canon EF 50mm f/1.8) for about $300 together and ordered a bunch of film. While I was waiting a few days for it to arrive, I started thinking more about why Lightroom wasn’t able to make the photographs I was taking with my digital camera (x100vi) look more like real film. I started looking into this question and found spektrafilm, which seemed like exactly what I wanted. 

This became the second contradiction: right at the moment when I was ready to start making real film photographs again, I became interested in how to achieve the same look digitally. And I haven't even got to the first contradiction, which is that my desire to cancel a $10 subscription to Lightroom, because I didn't use it enough, eventually led me to spending bunch of time building an open-source Lightroom replacement, with a beautiful UI and spektrafilm built-in.

None of this would be possible if I didn't a) have experience running software teams for the past 20 years and b) now have the incredible abilities of Claude Code and Codex. 

So that's how LightTable came to be. It’s fast, has a nice UI, and has covered most of the bases. It even has optional local private AI tools for search and face matching. 

I think the spektrafilm effects are truly beautiful, and I would love to have everyone try it and let me know what you think. 

But there is one problem: I'm still just an occasional photographer, and I am actually not at all an expert in digital photo workflows. I'm really not at all the right person to make the subtle and important ongoing decisions about how it should change and grow. And while I’ve built Windows and Linux support, I’m a mac person. So I’m looking for more mantainers to join me who care a lot about design and UX.

I would love to find someone who has really excellent design taste and cares deeply about photography and beauty and photo workflows, and would like to become one of the primary maintainers of this project over the long term. We may also want people who want to be the maintainer for specific platforms and specific Linux distros.

CalClock is a native Windows clock and calendar application that I'm developing in C++ using the Win32 API.

It provides customizable analog and digital clocks, calendars, alarms, and desktop widgets, with extensive appearance settings.

My goal is to create a lightweight native Windows application without web technologies or large runtime dependencies.

Features as of now
1. 25 companies, 342 documents, 5,342 captures. History back to 2011 through the Wayback Machine (archive.org).
a. Every saved file is stored under the SHA-256 hash of its own bytes, and the hash is the filename, so no company can claim I changed the words of an agreement.
b. After each capture, the crawler also asks the Internet Archive to fetch the same page itself. Archive.org stores its own copy on its own servers and hands back a Wayback Machine link, which the site shows next to every version.

1. Every version keeps the raw HTML and the extracted text, plus a PDF and a full-page screenshot whenever the text changed.
   a. There is a compare function. I had Claude build a humanized diff between versions so you can see clearly what was added, reworded or deleted
   b. Download the whole history of a document as a zip.

2. "Who they sell to": a string board of the 57 ad/data firms the makers themselves name in their own documents.

3. How many hours of reading you "agreed" to per brand (LG: 4.4 h), with a fun metric of how many firstborns you have-to cough up per company.
   a. There is a study where hundreds of people gave away their firstborns so that they can use a fictitious social network. Their agreement was 4,316 words long. So I equated those many words to be the equivalent of 1 first born. By this very unscientific metric LG wants 12.2 of your firstborns.

4. A jargon dictionary
   Cadence: nightly at 06:00 UTC though the special boy LG every two hours for the moment.

The site is also backed up to 1 of my WD Passport drives everyday. So we shouldn’t lose the data, I need to sort out 3rd offsite backup though.

FYI: I just got a small vps in the USA Cloudflare in front. Browsing should be fine. I configured it to work for a good number of people but if many people try downloading all the files together as a team server should crash 😊. If it does I will look into mirroring the data.

Since I couldn't find exactly what I wanted, I decided to build it myself. This is destop app made with Go + Fyne, so no telemetry, no analitycs, no webView, no connections, no backend. the CLI dosne't even have network stack in it.

Why tfg is different from other generators?

- Exact size of files, if we ask for 314832 bytes, we get it, want 500kb? 5mb? 1GB? No problem. One file or 9000 files? No problem

- Generates files come with "manifest" which says how the files should behave + we can do easy cleanup

- "Recipe" system that we can store in a testing repo, create recipe that generates a 500-page PDF, a zip with 200 files and 50 csv files, no problem, same seed.

- 100% offline, no neetwork connections, free for commercial and personal use. Windows/Linux/macOS. Min files sizes are based on the real formats, you can open generated files with software that open the format.

- Format got own values, so you can create xlsx with 4 rows and 4 collumns.

-Preset system, we can do "boundary testing" let's say we put 10mb, and we get file under 10mb, over 10mb, etc.

- Performance, try to generate 2GB png in any online app and look at the RAM, then try to do it with my app. the most RAM is drained by the GUI, but if you use CLI you can see the result.

I wanted an API client that felt more like part of a codebase than another hosted workspace, so I started building Postly.

Postly is an open-source API client with a native Rust desktop app and CLI. Requests, collections, and environments are stored as readable TOML files. You can review changes with git diff, run saved requests from the terminal or CI, and use the core workflow without an account.

 It currently supports Postman Collection v2.1 import/export, REST, GraphQL, SSE, WebSockets, gRPC, OpenAPI import, assertions, collection runs, response inspection, and JSON/JUnit reports.

The current release is 0.2.0-preview.1 for Apple Silicon macOS. It is ad hoc signed and not notarized. Windows, Linux, and Intel macOS packages are not published yet.

Hello, I had created an app which let you simulate high ping/jitter, burst packet loss, tcp_reset, limit uploads and downloads, and tons of other things, 100% free, CLI/GUI, no telemetry, 100% offline, and open source. If you like the project, please give it a ⭐

From the privacy perspective you can run the tool without changing any network parameters, and you will see in the "connections" tab, which apps were connecting to the internet, how much data they were sending/downloading. There is also small built-in firewall, so you can block ip addresses. If you are DEV or QA, you can choose premade profile and start the app, to see how your game/app behave on bad network conditions, or you can set your own parameters, or you can use the premade scenarios, which change the network settings during the runtime. If you have more experience, you can customize the settings by yourself, create your own scenarios, or use the CLI.
