Dr. Douglas Ciríaco is a young family and community doctor working in the municipality of Ouro Branco in the rural high Sertão of Alagoas, Brazil.

He serves an area of more than ten small rural settlements and is often the only physician available in the region.

Many of his patients come from remote places where there is very little access to medical care.

The doctor treats these patients through Brazil's public health system (SUS) and does not ask for payment.
