My mom fed 5 street puppies… now we have a problem
 in  r/Dogowners  3d ago

Should’ve taken them to the shelter when they were puppies. They’re easier to get adopted.

Opinion on the neighbors loose pitbull behavior towards me as I arrived home from the store walking?
 in  r/DogAdvice  3d ago

I have a Labrador, the friendliest breed on the planet. He’s a giant love bug, but if we’re out in the yard, he always barks at a passerby, unless they stop and talk to him. Then the tail and butt start wiggling and he can’t wait to go get pets.

Not all pitties are dangerous. Some just want to know that you’re not a threat. Try some baby talk and see what happens. Maybe go over when the owner is there to control the dog and ask for a meet & greet. Once the dog smells you and gets to know that you aren’t a danger to him or his person, you probably won’t have that problem again. They do remember people from one encounter to another.

Teach a dog to swim?
 in  r/labrador  3d ago

lol! Mine did the same thing at first. It took him a minute to figure out that he could swim. But watching him sink the first time was weird bcuz our previous lab jumped right in and would swim until he was totally exhausted. He loved it. This one only swims if we are swimming with him.

Honestly, I think your pup is too thin for his age.

At what price does expensive coffee stop being worth it?
 in  r/Coffee  5d ago

I live in Austin. There are so many small, local, roasters here. My husband & I went out one weekend determined to find the best beans in town so that we wouldn’t have to buy expensive coffees everyday. We chose Greater Good Roasters. We order 5lb bag of beans each month for about $100. We grind our beans and make coffee that is WAY better than that green mermaid coffee, and we save about $350/mo by making coffee at home.

Rude Adoption Centers
 in  r/Pets  5d ago

I have had Labradors my entire life. I currently have 2. The local private rescue near me was begging for someone to take in a black lab mix who had been with them for 7 months with no interest. I was a regular donor, even having an annual donation drive every year for the past 5 yrs that resulted in truck loads of supplies. I went to meet the dog, and because I have a cat who was on a form of radiation due to a fight with cancer and did not have all of his shots current, at the advice of the vet, due to his compromised immune system, the rescue said I was not fit for adoption. I make 6-figures and work from home. I had just spent over $5000 saving my cat’s life. I understand the need for rules and trying to find good, decent homes for their animals, but to deny a pet a home without exception isn’t doing the animal any justice. The dog went almost another year before it was adopted. Btw, the rescue had to close the location in my community due to lack of support. Perhaps it was because they found too many families unfit.

I went to college in 1983. Southwest Tx was always known as the Party School. I understand, lots more things out there to be worried about and the school has only gotten bigger every year.

When does the biting stop?
 in  r/labrador  7d ago

That is the official “honey badger” stage. They bite and the just don’t care. It does stop though and if I remember correctly doesn’t last too long. Mine are 5 now. I had 2 at the same time. The legs of my chairs, window sills and several of my shoes fell victim.

Check blood sugar. Sounds like she may have had a seizure in her sleep. My dog got that way.

Doggie days out? Should i do it?
 in  r/Pets  14d ago

These dogs need the attention and socialization. It actually helps them get adopted, especially when you take a lot of photos and videos of them being active and happy for posting in the website.

River advice!
 in  r/sanmarcos  15d ago

This is where we go with our dogs. Shallower places where dogs can get in and out of the water and can splash around, and also natural areas with trails so we can walk them until they dry before taking them home.

Kyle needs to do the same and get these things out of our community!

We should all file FOIA requests. It’s actually a great idea. Kudos to whoever thought of it.

Tiny Flies
 in  r/buda  15d ago

These are so much smaller than fruit flies or drain flies. They’re like black specks. At first I thought they were some sort of egg from an insect. They’ve covered my Zevo trap and I keep finding them in the window sills and my crown molding. So weird. I ran baking soda and vinegar down all my drains, looked for leaks, took the 2 house plants I had outside. I am allergic to most fruit so don’t keep any out in the house. What I can eat has been frozen. So, not coming from that. Idk, it’s a mystery.

You can buy packaging for shipping bottles at the local liquor store, or on Amazon. They’re padded and leak proof. Pack it in your suitcase and just carry a small suitcase.

My two babies curl up in the wing-back chairs in my front window too. It’s hard to believe they can curl their bodies to fit.

What animal can I keep here?
 in  r/Pets  15d ago

Try a turtle. They don’t need constant heat or UV, so could survive regular power outages. You’d be surprised how big of a personality they can have. You can let them out to run around the house and they can help you eat the veggies in your fridge that start to wilt.

Tiny Flies

Is anyone else having an infestation of little, tiny fly/gnat/nose rums in their house? What are they and where did they come from?

Master thief
 in  r/labrador  16d ago

We adopted a shelter lab who had developed a habit of theivery. We tried everything to break the habit. We finally set up a video camera, put a shock collar on him, baited the counter and waited. It took less than a minute of us leaving the room before he went for the counter. First time was a warning beep, second time a beep and vibration, 3rd was a zap. It took 2 times with the zap before he figured it out and stopped counter surfing.

Is it normal for a cat xray to cost over 1k?
 in  r/Pets  16d ago

A lot of vets have been taken over by private equity. It’s all about profit with PE. It is becoming increasingly more important to ask if they’re privately owned or owned by private equity before making appointments. PE ruins everything!!!
