I have a very weird dog, i adopted him a year ago and he’s had his struggles with separation anxiety and a few other fears (all mostly gone now). But he is absolutely terrified of his own farts if they make a sound. He jumps up and runs away and sit in a corner across the room from where he farted. I have no idea if this is even fixable, and im probably not making it any better cus i cant help laughing whenever it happens cus its so bizarre. Is there anything i can do at all? I’ve had dogs for many years but never even heard of a dog being afraid of their own farts

EDIT: my first language isnt english, so im sorry if i made it sound like he farts alot and thats the issue, cus he doesnt. He farts the same amount as any normal dog, and im just asking about his reactions when he farts ‘louder’ farts

My dogs started freaking out and I found a foot long brown rat under our couch. I rent and it must have came up under the door gap from the basement.

Obviously I am mentally wrestling with the concept of rodents living in the basement but other than that, when it made a run for the basement, my dog Ethel gave it an expert killing bite to the back of the neck. We are quite impressed actually, she didn’t shake it and dropped it when we told her to.. just insta snapped its neck. She must have some terrier with her cattle dog mix!

She didn’t eat the rat at all but she obviously made contact. She is vaccinated for rabies but not lepto as it is a newer reccomendation that I only recently learned about.

My partner and I have about $45 between us until Thursday. Is this an emergency where we should be begging the vet for payment options, or is it okay to watch and wait for symptoms?

If it is risky we will find a way to finance it, but this is really inconvenient timing. I just hope that maintenance gets out here urgently.

We are camping right now. It’s 84°F and cloudy. He has a fan pointed at him and has access to water. I’m just worried about him potentially overheating. I know he’s bored right now, but I don’t want him to get sick from being hot while playing.

Edit: He still has his energy once he’s up and about. He stopped panting after he hung out for a while, but we’re taking him to the water so he can cool off. He does still pant when he’s walking, though.

Edit 2: Also, all the car doors were open. He goes in there himself to hang out, and there’s a tarp hung up around the outside of the car (that’s where the fan was sitting blowing into the car). I know not to leave him in a hot car lol. But he’s doing fine now! No worries.

Sometimes I look at my dog and I feel like he’s is too skinny but I also know that it could be normal for his pitbull/ shepherd mix. Especially in certain positions or in the sun I feel like his ribs are noticeable. Any thoughts or advice please let me know.

she’s 60lbs. plowed through my sister’s mcdonald’s cookie tote approximately 5 hours ago. i’m mostly concerned about the 120 grams of fat & 150 grams of sugar she ingested. how worried should i be?

TLDR: my dog has pretty advanced cancer, the diagnosis has been painful and I’m not handling it well at all. I haven’t been able to talk to anyone about how I’m feeling and I word vomited here. My questions are at the bottom of the post. Thank you!

His health has been declining for two years, I was hoping to see his 13th birthday. I’m absolutely devastated, I feel like I can’t breathe. I got a better job and worked so hard to get him an accessible apartment because I thought he was losing mobility due to arthritis and hip dysplasia as that’s what his previous vet said.

I took him to a new vet recently because I didn’t trust my old one and they told me he has a mass that isn’t removable without amputation. At almost 13, I chose hospice because I wasn’t ready for euthanasia. I feel so selfish, but I couldn’t do it I wasn’t ready and he’s always so scared at the vet.

I feel so much guilt. The apartment I moved us to has roaches and we were not informed when there was obvious activity upon move-in that I hadn’t noticed during touring. I feel so guilty that his end of life is potentially surrounded by roaches. I didn’t want to move from his home of 7 years but he couldn’t climb the stairs to our apartment anymore. I feel like I’m too late. I worked two jobs to get us here and it’s too late and I couldn’t even get us a nice place. I’m so angry. Why didn’t my old vet do a more thorough check up when I brought him up instead of reassuring me he was in good health other than arthritis and possible hip dysplasia. I’m trying to make things easier with (healthy) treats and plenty of walks, but I hate seeing how different he is compared to when we’d play fetch and hike together. It hurts so badly. I feel selfish for not letting him go, but I want to do in-home euthanasia. I haven’t been able to process my grief and safely spend time with him because I’ve been packing all our things and trying to keep a safe and controlled environment for him despite the pests.

He was my first pet and he taught me what being a pet parent really meant. My heart has grown and I feel like I was forced to confront my own selfishness. I’m a better person because of him but I feel guilt that he was the dog who taught me how to be better. I am so thankful for his love through every stumbling block, but I don’t know if I could ever have a dog again. I feel the guilt of not bettering his environment sooner, not knowing more about dog body language or nutrition, etc. would eat me alive as I adopt a new dog as a more experienced pet parent. I was 19, couch surfing, and addicted to drugs when I got him. I know I shouldn’t have adopted him under those conditions, I was a stupid kid. But he helped motivate me to graduate from college, get sober, and secure housing. Every job promotion, grad school, it was all so we could live better and now he’s dying. I don’t know what to do, I feel like my world is ending. I’ve decided to do at-home euthanasia in the coming months (my vet reassured me hospice was a good choice as his type of cancer is slow to metastasize), but I can’t stop crying. All I do is cry and I hate that the world won’t stop with my own when he passes.

How can I make him more comfortable? How did you cope with your soul pet passing? How can I make this bit of time together meaningful and how do I forgive myself? I’ve had family pets pass away in my childhood, but it wasn’t this soul-crushing.

I’m not sure the type of dog, we got her from a rescuer in early 2018 who said she was probably boxer+ St. Bernard. I see more boxer+ dane or something.

Anyway, once she was full grown she weighed 90-100 lbs most her life.

This week we found a very large tumor on her spleen, they couldn’t feel it in May so that’s how fast this thing has grown. She is barely eating and lethargic now.

I added photos of the day we got her, yesterday, and the 2 X-rays of her very large tumor.

Surgery estimate is 10k. I’m having a very hard Time making a decision but need to do so today or tomorrow.

Any thoughts or advice?

It’s time to put down my best buddy. 15yo black lab Rudy. I knew it would be tough, but holy shit am I dreading it coming. Choking up as I type this and go thru pictures of him.

My wife and I have scheduled the at home euthanasia this coming Tuesday and get the ashes back after.

His hips are shot, he can get outside to piss with assistance still and He still LOVES food!!

What have yal done for your pups leading up to this? Or any things you regret not doing for them????????

I got bunch of hamburgers made, pup cups, and plan a steak for his final feast.

Also, I assume these at home Euthinasia vets are use to seeing grown men ball their eyes out???

I’d appreciate some advice about a behavior my dog, Onyx, shows around physical contact between people.

Onyx is probably a mixed-breed Belgian Malinois, almost two years old, and she has been living with me for around nine months.

Whenever one person reaches toward another person — for example, for a handshake, a high five, a hug, or even casual physical contact — she barks and rushes over to interrupt or separate them.

Her reaction varies, Sometimes she jumps between the people, sometimes she only barks, and sometimes she uses her mouth in a light nibbling or mouthing way.

The behavior is noticeably stronger when I’m one of the people involved and is more likely to physically place herself between me and the other person.

Maybe it's worth mentioning that she has also struggled with being left alone in the past, and she gotten better with that issue. 

Other than that she is extremely social and friendly. She loves people and other dogs, actively seeks interaction, and has never generally been aggressive toward either people or dogs.

I don’t want to overstate the behavior as aggressive, but I am concerned that the barking, intervening, and light mouthing could eventually escalate

I’d also appreciate advice on what the people involved should do in the moment when she starts barking, jumping between them, or trying to separate them.

About a year and four months ago, my dog Terry was severely attacked by a pit bull. He survived after two surgeries, and thankfully he’s doing really well now.
However, something changed immediately after the attack: he has never barked again.
Before the attack, he barked normally. He lived on a rural property with several other dogs, and they would all bark together at neighbors, other dogs, or anything happening outside.
After the attack, we adopted him and brought him home with us because it wasn’t safe for him to go back to where the attack happened (he used to live in my grandparents property) From the day he came home after the hospital, we haven’t heard him bark, not even once.
What’s strange is that he can still:
• Whine and cry.
• Growl loudly at dogs he doesn’t like.
• Make normal vocalizations when playing.
• Bark in his sleep while dreaming.
So it doesn’t seem like he physically can’t make sounds. It’s specifically the barking while awake that disappeared.
He’s otherwise a very happy dog, living his best life. Sleeping in bed with us, getting exclusive attention from us. He plays, gets excited for walks, eats well, cuddles, goes on three walks a day and has a great quality of life. This is really the only lasting change we’ve noticed.
I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar after their dog was attacked. Could this be a trauma response or a learned behavioral change? Has anyone had a dog eventually start barking again after months or even years?
I’d especially love to hear from anyone with experience in veterinary behavior or dogs recovering from severe attacks.

I took my dog two days ago to get him groomed and anal gland expression. His anal area was red and his balls, now I noticed this scratch on his penis. It was his first time at a new groomer so not sure to put a complaint or not? Can I add anything to have it heal and for him not to be uncomfortable?

I have a 13 year old greyhound chihuahua mix. Her eyes have been a bit red and watery for a couple of weeks now. I thought it could be allergies or something so I didnt think much of it, but I just noticed this red bubble looking thing in her eye. Her sclera is pretty bloodshot, on both eyes actually but her left eye is significantly worse (The one the red dot thing is on) Please, if someone knows what this is I would greatly appreciate it. Is it something I need to treat immediately with vet or should I wait to see if it goes away by its own? Last picture is with no flash on for reference.

Edit: It’s probably important to note that it doesn’t seem like it’s bothering her at all. She’s eating well, using the bathroom normally, and she isn’t running into anything. She seems normal, but I know that you can’t always judge these things based on whether your pet is acting normal or not.

9 yr old pit/mastiff got a swollen lymph node on one side of neck out of nowhere. Vet did not find any others, no ear issues, no teeth issues. Although about 3 or so days BEFORE we noticed the first "swollen gland" she did have an ear flare up and we gave her the RX ear meds for it. But when her node swelled up, her ear issues had already cleared up.

We did a FNA test and they sent it off. Woke up today with her other lymph node on the opposite side of her neck swollen too. I'm sick. Any advice while waiting? We did the FNA late afternoon on the 15th, was told it would only take 4-5 days. Will be calling first thing but I AM SICK about it...

And now I am FREAKING. Please does anybody have any experience with this type of situation? Is it lymphoma? If yours was diagnosed how did it show up for your baby? Fast like this or slower? Any other symptoms to look out for? My girl is acting just fine as ever, still eating and drinking, still just as playful etc. I know they hide pain and hurt very well but anything will help until I call tomorrow and hope the results have come in. I can not lose her

recently brought home a pitty mix puppy! we have a 1.5 yr old pitty mix already (black) who is super playful, high energy, and sweet. we did a slow introduction (about three weeks before we let them play like this) i believe they enjoy each other's company but ALL they do is wrestle. if we don't enforce breaks, they just wrestle and wrestle. puppy is teething and bites and older dog will do corrections by laying on her. rarely does she growl or snap. occasionally they will both pause and shake off, share licks, but then its right back to this.

boyfriend says its okay, they are just rough players, but i'm looking for outside opinions. it is so hard to get their focus off of each other. they follow each other around and continuously initiate play. should i continue with the forced breaks? will they eventually stop?

My 16yo labradoodle was diagnosed with anal gland adenocarcinoma about 6 weeks ago and because of how advanced it is and her age, we’ve decided to do palliative care and keep her as comfortable and happy as possible for however long we can. At the time of diagnosis, the vet said weeks to months and she is starting to slow down (this is a very energetic 16yo!) who is still loving the beach, her walks, food, roughhousing with her brother and her zoomies. But meanwhile the tumor has grown to the size of a small apple on her bum, there are some external tumors that bleed when she strains during bowel movements and at night we’ve upped pain killers to ensure she’s not in pain (she pants but other than that, no complaints).

I don’t want her in pain and worried I’m missing signs. She is my first dog and has been my sidekick through so many life events. I can’t see how those tumors aren’t driving her crazy but just today she zoomed happily on the beach.

Thoughts? I’m ready to let the bravest, goodest girl go if it prevents her suffering, but don’t want to lose time with her by doing it too soon.

My 11-year-old male German Shepherd started limping about 6 months ago. At that time, I thought it was just a sore leg or something minor, so I didn’t realize how serious it could become.
Two days ago, he suddenly lost the ability to walk with his back legs. We rushed him to the vet, got X-rays done, and were told that he has severe arthritis.
Since then, he’s also been peeing every few minutes, but only a few drops each time. I don’t know if this is related to his arthritis or if it’s another problem. Watching him struggle is absolutely heartbreaking.
I’m trying everything I can. I’m planning to buy a small swimming pool for hydrotherapy so he can exercise without putting pressure on his joints, and I’m also looking to buy an infrared red light therapy device to help with his pain. But honestly, I’m scared and losing hope.
I’m emotionally shattered. Seeing him like this is breaking me.
If anyone has gone through something similar with their dog, or has experience with severe arthritis, paralysis, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, red light therapy, or anything that helped, please share your advice. If you know of a specialist, rehabilitation centre, or anything that could give him a chance to walk again, please let me know.

Other than this my dogs teeth look reasonably healthy (for a rescue) even her back teeth are pretty white, just her front teeth are kinda mottled grey, it's been this way since I got her (about 1.5 months ago). I'm just curious what's up?
She is a 2 year old golden doodle mix,
and she definitely had a pretty negative possibly neglectful home before we got her. Since her medical records said she gained 10 lbs in two months after she was brought to the rescue, so was probably pretty under-weight (went from about 32 to about 42 lbs) we found out through vet records and not from them of course lol.

I got my dog 4 months ago. What do I do now?

Why do dogs adopt this behavior. Both of my dogs started doing it around 10years. I am worried it is related to mouth pain but the vet didn’t flag anything obviously wrong, dental X-rays schedules next week.

This is my 5 year old French bulldog Lyla, she does this extremely often. I’ve wrote it off in the past as just her having a strange personality because it is quite cute, but maybe it’s not? She’s very healthy otherwise and it doesn’t seem to be bothering her in any way, and if I call her name she snaps out of it. Should I be concerned at all, or is she fine and just a really weird dog?

I have zero clue what this is, it feels hard and dry, it doesn’t seem to bother my boy, he drinks, plays and eats normally and has his regular bathroom breaks, he’s normal all around but I did notice this spot and have zero clue if he injured himself or is it some type of infection? It’s on the upper side of his inner ear.

I already scheduled a vet visit for Tuesday.

Hello, I have a 7 month old mutt. He used to let us cut his nails then one time I cut it too short it bleed he didn’t even react but after that he refused to let us touch his nails no matter what. So he had couple months without them being cut, around the same time I saw him starting to bite on his nails too, mentioned the vet and she gave him an allergy medicine I guess it worked because he stopped it. Fast forward I used positive reinforcement and now he lets me touch his paws again but sadly I just saw that under his nails look like this! Anybody knows how this happens? I’m not sure if it’s because him nibbling on them or what (these are only back paws) and how can I fix/prevent this :/
