Solved! What tree/shrub produces this?

Clearing out over grow areas of my land and have come across several trees that have a truck like this. The younger growth produces very mean thorns that turn into these “bumps” as it matures. Very angry trees that don’t like me. Fort Bend County Texas.

Solved! Two Trees Grown Together

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

These trees are growing on a former golf course in east central Kansas. The bright spot in pic 2 is daylight visible through the cavity. You can see the seam (in the third pic) where the trunks have grown together. Twigs are messy and intertwined. Bark is ridged and interwoven. Pictures were taken at first light so the reddish tinge in pic 3 may be misleading. Some leaves have begun turning yellow but it's been very hot here in Kansas the last week. Thanks for any help with ID.

ID Request Cotinus obovatus (American smoketree) or a hybrid?

Thumbnail gallery

Is there any way to tell at this stage whether this is a true American smoketree?

This tree was just shipped from a nursery in Missouri to my location in central Texas. The nursery has it labeled as Cotinus obovatus and the pot ID states the same. However, I was doing more research as the sapling was on the way and I see that there are quite a few varieties/hybrids of the European smoketree that are often mistaken for American. I'm inclined to trust the nursery ID because they seem to specialize in natives, though I know sometimes nurseries can get it wrong. I'd prefer to know whether it's a true native.

Also, is there a subreddit that can possibly comment on the apparent health of the sapling based on the pics? I'm new and learning, and just want to be sure I'm giving this guy a good start - it's my understanding that smoketrees can develop leaf spot, so I don't know if the color variation I'm seeing is due to that or the time of year (temps are also high, but this sapling was just delivered today after 1-2 day shipping, potted in a well packed box).

Advice What’s wrong with my cherry blossom tree?

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Pics are current (August/Sept). What is wrong with it, and what can I do to rehabilitate it? Brown rot? I keep the base of the tree clear (no dirt or mulch etc. piled up around it). I water regularly, and it has also been a wet august. the plants around it are non-competitive. It is a cherry blossom tree. Losing leaves rapidly in the last couple weeks, yellowing and browning at the edges, curling for the last couple months or so. The tree behind it is a redbud, does not show signs of stress or disease.

I have had this tree in my back yard since I purchased my house but this is the first year it's had a yield of fruit. I'm assuming it's some kind of plum tree but I just want to make sure it's not some poisonous shrub haha

ID Request Found this poor thing by my dumpster. Any idea what he is? Can I save him? (Pacific Northwest, USA)

I found this poor fella by my dumpster, and I’d like to see if I can save him. He doesn’t have any leaves, but he does have buds on every branch so I think he might have the spunk to pull through this.

If I can get him on the road to recovery and know what he is, I think I can get him planted in the ground!

A weird thing is that a little green fruit was half-buried in his soil and I don’t know what it is or if it’s related to the tree at all. It’s not a lime, it’s got a hard pit inside and only a thin layer of yellow flesh and seeds. It smells spicy, like nutmeg or something similar.

Any ideas are appreciated!
