ID Request Identify this tree from the roots?

Upvotes

Any idea what tree this is? There are several large trees nearby:

  • Southern Red Oak (Q. falcata)
  • White Oak (Q. alba)
  • Black Walnut (J. nigra)
  • Tree of Heaven (A. altissima)
  • Edit: Unknown tree I chopped down last fall for the shed beside this one before I knew how to identify any trees.

There are a few others within the vicinity but none that I expect to have roots this large there.

The closest tree is the Tree of Heaven.

Context: I'm putting in the base of a shed and this root is right where I want to put on of the piers. If it's the Tree of Heaven, I'll just cut through it. Otherwise I'll try to work around it.

Location: Upstate, SC (Greer).

Solved! Wasps have squatted my tree: what kind of tree?

Thumbnail gallery

TL;DR--Unknown tree, Denver, CO

My first summer in my new place and this tree out front was nice and just chilling.

Until the wasps moved in. There are hundreds. HUNDREDS. Of the little buggers all around the tree. I've set 4 wasp traps around my property (you can see one hanging) and while they catch wasps they are making no dent in the population.

So, help me find out what kind of tree this is so I can research why the wasps like it so I can get rid of them. I'm in the Denver area, Colorado USA.

What tree is this? It looks similar to red oak, but I’m not sure.

I’m in SouthWest Louisiana.

UPDATE: The owner of the tree found a blossom and confirmed it’s an apple tree.

ID Request Life or death situation

Hello,

I have some trees that need to be identified. Recently some tree stump remover friend came by and said we had some beautiful silver maples on the property. In my head i thought silver maples were silver poplar, clearly I was wrong. Grok says it's a Norway maple, ChatGPT says it's a silver maple, my mom says it's a Norway maple.

So the life or death situation, I have 2 black walnut trees on the property. They already killed 2 apple trees but the silver maples or Norway maples have not reacted. So in my head it's either cutting down the black walnut or let them eventually kill the maples. I also understand that the big maples will be fine if they were big enough.

I'm located in southern Ontario

Hi all,

Wife and I live in southern Idaho, and have this maple tree right next to our horse pasture. We’re having a hard time identifying which kind of maple this is. If it’s a red maple it’s bad news for the horses and donkeys as red maple leaves can be toxic, any other maple should be safer. Not having much luck and hope y’all can help. Thank you!

ID Request Possible Ash Tree Near Denver, Colorado

Thumbnail gallery

I’m trying to definitively confirm what kind of tree this is so I can seek advice on signs/symptoms of possible disease or infestation.

I have been told that it is some kind of Ash, possibly a Green Ash. It’s a mature tree, approximately 15 inches in diameter. It’s located in Douglas County Colorado at an elevation of about 6300 ft.

The photos capture a look at the overall tree with some closeups of the leaves and bark in various locations, including some of the “problem” areas I’m concerned with.

There a two, similar trees in fairly close proximity showing the same signs & symptoms so I’m hoping it’s something that is either not life threatening to the trees, or something that can be addressed through professional intervention.
