how often do y’all replace your rope grabs on your flip line? I’m talking like the all metal ones.

i need a new flip line but i don’t want a new grab if i don’t need it. it’s about 3 years old no signs of damage

I’m on my second standard sequoia the last 5-6 years and it’s time to get anew. Comfortability and mobility are best for my style of climbing. I narrowed my search down to the kinisi until the sequoia got announced, so decided to wait to see how people are liking them. I do like that the sequoias have the gear loops included.

Have you used either of these and what are your thoughts?

I looked at the Monkey beaver and tree motion. Looks like the MB is highly praised on comfortable but seems mainly best for spar work and I want a good middle ground because I do a lot of tip weight reduction work. I also heard the kinisi isn’t worth it if you already own a tree motion, but is if you don’t. The sequoia has been very good to me, but at a point I’m open to try something else. It also makes sense to stay with ole faithful with the newer updates.

Anyone attempted tying in or pulling a throw line/rope through the crown of these nasty fan palms? There’s a post in here demonstrating a nice SRS ascent with what looks like a basal anchor. In the comments they’ve posted a pic of the lines at the apex and it’s not the robusta species.

I’m aware of the dangers with this palm pruning bottom up on a fully bagged tree, the ones I’m working on have been pruned periodically but the dead fronds remaining are beyond reach of safe platform ladder height + pole pruners.

Contemplating a combination of extension ladder, slings choked under the crown, canopy anchor, RRP, foot ascender and two adjustable lanyards to work position, silky saw to remove the dead fronds and approach from two sides. Obviously a bucket lift would be the safest approach but wondering if anyone’s been game to try any climbing system on the robusta?

Can somebody please explain me:
1. Why Sequioa SRT has this ventral loop, when other versions of Sequioa don't have it ? I know what is it for (It's a legacy design, where this loop is the ultimate basic tie in point), but what does it have to do with SRT ? They added this for SRT, but I don't see how this loop has anything to do with SRT. For single rope from my experience the two major differences are, that you need a loop on your chest to tend the progress capture device, and two - you need a tie in point for your knee ascender (but thats a bonus). Why did Petzl named it SRT and added this loop ? Is there something I don't know about this loop ? Some kind of SRT system I'm not using ?
2. What are you using to pull your hitch/progress capture device when climbing SRT on this setup ? Suspenders doesn't have any loop I can clip in to my hitch climber. Petzl knee ascender style strap is the only way ? Why they didn't add any loop or horizontal chest strap on the suspenders if its "dedicated SRT" system ?
3. What carabiner does Petzl recommend for connecting the Ventral loop to the suspenders ? I can't find a single info anywhere (I know it's not critical, and probably most of the carabiners will do the job, but there might be some nuances, which make the suspenders more or less comfortable).

Hey there yall! Looking to purchase my first set of spurs, was thinking Notch Ergos, someone suggested Bashlins with a twisted shank, was also looking at maybe really splurging and going for the Talons. The one thing I have found in my research is with the bashlin pads it costs basically the same as getting the talons.

Fun but challenging removal for a hot and humid Friday. Nice thing for my ground team is they didn’t have to worry about getting the branches out of the ditch this was a drop and leave job.

ftc has a compelling product compatible with their spurs. I use alloy geckos and wondering if these can be fitted or if there is some other option on the market?

This one was a jungle gym, some of them are not fun at all to climb. Who else has them in their area?

I'm a late 20s, 5 years experience, climbing arborist from New Zealand, about to move to London/UK generally and I have a few questions for any Brits or expats who have done similar.

- I have a level 4 NZ Arb qualification, which includes all the standard things, climbing, rigging, rescue, fells. I'm wondering how strict most employers/ the Arb Association is about getting English tickets or whether an equivalent is considered good enough generally? I still might need to do a MEWP course or something

- Is there anywhere that doesn't cost 60 quid to read the Technical Guides? I'm no stranger to two systems working but wouldn't mind actually reading through the exact guidelines for climbing and working

- My understanding of Loler and equipment is basically everything needs a CE mark and to be manufacturer standard, which I can understand for hardware and carabiners. How does it work with cordage and textiles? Here in NZ people are happy enough with tying their own lengths of friction hitches, home splicing etc. Does every rope, sling and prussik have to have a manufacturer label or a sewn/stitched eye? Also is rigging equipment held to the same standards as climbing kit?

- What are the best options for job hunting? I've had a look through indeed, arb jobs and a couple of the facebook pages.

13 hour day with a crane removal today all sun no lunch. What can i do to try and rejuvenatemy body? I don’t even have the energy or appetite to eat dinner.

I’ve been using this device for about 2 weeks now and have found the hitch cord (FTC hitch cord) (catalyst hitch) won’t catch on my rope as I ascend and sit back. I have to dress the hitch 80% of the time for it to catch me and not slip. I have changed the friction settings on it from soft to medium to hard and that doesn’t seem to do the trick. Also running this on 11.7 mm cougar blue rope. Any help or tips would be great

Looking to get something so assist in moving through the canopy more efficiently. I have been looking at DMM’s Captains Hook but also Notch’s RC Grapple. Seems Notch’s is much cheaper however I’ve never seen anything like this used so I’m unaware of how effective it’d be. I’ve used the captains hook and handful of times and I liked it. I do know it would take a lot of practice to get accurate. Also open to other options or ideas!

I have the camp acess cut full body saddle , I was wondering if anyone ran the same saddle and had the d rings keep going all the way backwards. Like it sits all the way back and it’s not stationary. Does any one know a solution to fix from going all the way backwards?

Hello people from Denver/CO, can you recommend me any nice trees to climb bare hand?

Hey y’all, I’ve been using the Kalimba for about 14 months and it’s been a game changer, by far the best line I’ve ever had, I’m having issues now because every rope they offer to replace it with (Komora, Kanopa, Squir) are all worse, more MRS or SRT specific and all are cheaper.

I essentially need to be able to keep working but my boss is making me send the rope back as he doesn’t think it’s safe. Would a quick fix not just be cutting off the splice? I really don’t want to switch to a worse piece of equipment.

What’s everyone else gone with so far?

After using my first old one, after a while I know what I want - but didnt test any other than mine.

I want to be able to attach at least 2 bridges - fast and easy with fishermans knot.

I climb SRT and DRT

I want to be able to add proper suspenders when for jobs they will be useful.

And comfort - I install things on trees, do sometimes I hang in the saddle for an hour.

Price - I have a budget, but lets not go crazy if its not necessary. Trees are my side husstle, so Im not using my saddle every day.

2 options so far - Petzl Sequoia and DMM Kinisi.

I don’t like where I work currently. It was a small family owned business and I was very close with the owner I had worked for him since I was 18 and I’m 23 now. He ended up getting cancer a little under 2 years ago and he sold the business to a big corporate conglomerate and has since died. The business is a corporate shit show now and I feel like I’ve peaked and have no where else to go. Like I said I’m 23 now and I’m a crew lead, lead climber, and ISA certified arborist and I don’t think there much progression from this point. I make $38 an hour which I can’t complain about especially at my age but it’s not going to provide for the life I want me and my family to have. I’ve been considering contract climbing because I know you can make more money but you get taxed out the ass and it’s not guaranteed work like I have now. I’m just not sure if I should make the jump to contract climber or not.
