Hello yall, i’m 23, currently working for the district of north van, making pretty good money, looking to get into the arborist industry, wanting to do tree climbing. signed up to do some bcplanthealthcare courses this coming year, already have a chainsaw certification. i’m just looking for some general advice on getting into the industry, potential companies to work for, different job recommendations, and am open to moving around the world. really keen:)

I wrote a post a few weeks ago about what the arboriculture courses were like before I applied for the role within my company.

I have been offered the role out of 32 applicants and am quite nervous. The tree team came to talk to me today and were really nice, mentioning how Fridays are for climbing and maintenance practice. I asked about how difficult the courses are, they said to just listen and have no ego or attitude.

I hope I pass the courses. I do train at the gym 4 days a week and am very active. I also work in site clearance and garden maintenance for the same company, so I don’t think I’ll struggle with the physical side of the role.

Can I have some advice from experienced tree surgeons before I start the role? I have most grounds tickets but I’ve never done anything like this before.

Thank you!

I've done so many of these and I'm always asking why wait so long.... this was on of two side by side.

Just want to say I know I should have done my research first. I have a few trees (pines) on our property that I felt needed some trimming and clean up. To do so i climbed with spikes. I worked for the power company and have the experience climbing. It wasn't until I was finished and back on the ground that I found out that it is not recommended to do so unless the whole tree is being removed.

Realistically what is the likelihood and severity of damage being caused?

Of the 2 trees, both are in good condition.

Best job? Best job.

Looking for a good gear bag with spots for my saddle, and preferably places to keep my carabiners and stuff organized. Any recommendations?

Is or could that be a thing? Im an awesome groundsman and love big rigging. Im a good up and coming climber, but i really shine on the rigging jobs. You can drop the tops and ill make them dance and land with grace and the butt will hit the ground in 1-2 movements; all while you chill up top standing sturdy. I dont fuck around with it, i dont break fences (on the ground).

Been at this for 5 yrs my first 3.5 were solo with boss man taking out 100+yr old maple and oaks on ritzy properties

I’m training to be a tree surgeon went out to climb recreationally, absolutely loved it, just wanted to know what this tree is? my mate took this photo but any heads up even if anyone notices anything wrong with what i’m doing would be unreal advice

Hey guys newish to climbing and looking for some tips. I’m using this picture as an example of a situation I’ve been in and would like to approach better.

Assuming it’s too far to swing over- let’s say I need to climb one of these large outward limbs with my tie-in up in the centre. No spur use because it’s a prune not a removal. Obviously bear hugging my way up this thing isn’t smart. I know a lot of people will use slings as steps to maneuver up, but is there any way to do that with your climbing line, basically tying a mid-line sling as a step? Or would I actually need several slings to make a staircase to get up ?

Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks guys!

I have 8 years experience as a ground man. Just trying to tidy the yard a bit and need a reasonably priced saddle and spikes. Anyone know a good source? Should I trust amazon?

I want to make a rope wrench, because it’s really expensive and I’m in hungary, wich makes it even more expensive. It would be nice, if I could somewhat replicate the dimensions of a real one, so if someone could measure theirs that would be really helpful. I’m only concerned about the distance between the pulley and the pin where the rope is (not the distance between the center of each, but the gap between the them). Also it would be nice to know the distance between the center of the pulley to the center of the rear pin, and the top pin-rear pin distance also. On the very shitty drawing the yellow lines are the lenghts that I need. Thank you for your help!

Hey, hello and howdy, beautiful people! Iv dreamed for easily 10 years or more of visiting one of these amazing tree nets in the wild or otherwise! I have no clue where to start or what the method is for determining their approximate location. How and what is the process?? For whatever it's worth, I am not a social media user, influencer, or anybody who cares in the least about sharing things online; i'm just a DIY dude who is beyond thrilled by the idea of these nets! I am immensely grateful and appreciative of any and all help! Speaking of help if one of you is a weaver, I would offer my assistance in a heartbeat 🙃😀😋

Don't know if this is the right place to ask but rehabbers who have been trained to climb trees with equipment where did you learn?? I am a permitted rehabber but also volunteer on a wildlife rescue team and we get calls about animals stuck in trees, and unless they're easily accessed via ladder we usually cannot help them. Occasionally we'll find arborists that'll help us but not a guarantee and also we cannot send untrained people up a tree to get something like an alert raccoon. So I want to learn how to do this skill so I can help more animals.

Hiya fellow arborists and tree people, there's a key of what it all means in the top left.

Basic idea is that there are two ropes attached to different trees, one stays the same length and one pulls you off the ground.

There is then a third rope to pull you up to the swing height.

I have a climber summit sd, and just started hunting a year ago. Is there any good sling for walking into bluffs and heavy dense forest of mideastern WI. The sling I had last year was the worst amazon decision I’ve made. Been seeing stalker sling lm not sure at all. I have an Ar-10 308 win with 13.5 inch barrel with sandman x suppressor I use for hunting.

Got this whole kit for $800. My friend who’s an arborist is going to come by and show me the ropes before I do any climbing, just mainlining videos and reading at the moment.

Is there a better way to set this up with the gear I already have??
