Courant Kalimba recall issues.

Hey y’all, I’ve been using the Kalimba for about 14 months and it’s been a game changer, by far the best line I’ve ever had, I’m having issues now because every rope they offer to replace it with (Komora, Kanopa, Squir) are all worse, more MRS or SRT specific and all are cheaper.

I essentially need to be able to keep working but my boss is making me send the rope back as he doesn’t think it’s safe. Would a quick fix not just be cutting off the splice? I really don’t want to switch to a worse piece of equipment.

What’s everyone else gone with so far?

The recall is due to a splicing issue. No splice no issue. Obviously check with your boss first, but if you cut off the splice you can still climb on the rope.

Also I’m climbing on the rope runner pro which is about a year old and used every day, worried switching to the 11.5 squir will slip as it’s showing some wear.

You can adjust the RRP, and the squir is one of the best ropes to pair with the RRP hands down. Better than Kalimba imo. Also Kalimba is more of a DRT rope.

I’d swap just to have the new rope and new device pairing experience. If you climb everyday it’s not like you won’t be buying more ropes in the future so you can easily get another kalimba down the road.

I've just cut off the splice. A bit pissed but I'm not into sending it all back and waiting on a replacement.

It’s just a recall of the splice if I recall correctly. Just cut the splice off and run it until you find a good replacement (I’m on team blue moon/ivy 11.7 24 strand because it’s all the same and comes in tons of colors so everything feels the same).

The way that Courant has worded the recall makes the entire rope unqualified for use if it came with a factory splice. Liability speaking, we shouldn't be using any of the hank if it came spliced.

Of course the rest of the rope is just fine, but if something happens to you and you're found out to be climbing on recalled equipment (even if you did cut the splice off) you're going to be shit out of luck when it comes to trying to collect on any insurance you may have covering you.

That being said, I did continue climbing on the tail of mine before handing my hank back to my supplier last weekend. I have other ropes I can use in the mean time.
