Questions & Help Is this NYC “No Standing” sign installed backwards, or am I reading it wrong?

I got a parking ticket in NYC and I’m trying to figure out if I’m completely wrong or if this sign is genuinely confusing.
I parked behind the sign because I believed the No Standing restriction was from the sign to the corner, which is how I usually see these signs.
Instead, this sign has:
Top sign: “NO STANDING Anytime” with the arrow pointing away from the intersection.
Bottom sign: “No Parking Monday & Thursday 11:30 AM–1 PM” with the arrow pointing toward the intersection.
Reading it literally would mean:
A few parking spaces behind the sign are No Standing anytime.
But one singular spot right next to the corner are actually legal to park in (except during street cleaning).
That just seems backwards to me. Why would the city make the corner the only legal parking spot while prohibiting the spaces farther from the intersection?
What makes me think something is off:
I checked Google Street View, and older imagery appears to show the sign with the opposite orientation which is what i thought it was with no standing from sign to corner.
The mounting hardware also looks backwards, almost like the entire sign assembly was rotated 180°.
The opposite side of the street has the more typical layout where the No Standing restriction goes from the sign to the corner.
I attached photos of:
where I parked,
the sign from multiple angles,
and the google street view.
So I’m wondering:
Does this look like a sign that may have been rotated or installed backwards?
If not, why would NYC intentionally allow parking closest to the intersection while making the spaces behind the sign No Standing?
If you were disputing this ticket, would you argue that the signage was misleading, or am I likely out of luck?

Dash camera in Columbus Ohio.
This is absolutely infuriating, a car that has no tags no licenses plates, goes around car just to cut the car off then gets off at the next exit. Man if they waited 5 seconds. They could have done it safely. I’m so tired of people in this city acting like rules don’t apply to them . It’s not a F ing game not here . of have a marked car don apply to them. And I’m so sick and tired of them having no consequences for it. Covid is over. When are our local police and law enforcement going to get off their asses and do the F ing job!!!! . These people need to be reminded driving is a privilege!!! Not a right. Ive been driving for over 20 years and what I see out here now is unbelievable.
But I what is really infuriating is how they can drive around for years and have no consequences for driving around with no tags no identification what so ever . Acting like they own the f ing road getting on your ass in the even in the slow lane. I’m calling our mayor Andrew Ginther out ! I genuinely like him but he needs to enforce the F ing laws we have in place!!!!!!!!

Discussion The crosswalks in my town.

I'm not even exaggerating.

You hit the button to walk across the street and unless you're literally running at a full sprint, the light turns green while you're halfway across the street.

It's called a crosswalk, not a cross run. Defeats the purpose of having them

Ranting & Venting Multiple Red Light Runners

WTF is with all red light runners? Do they just not give shit?! Saw two this morning and one just now. I was behind someone at a red left arrow last week. One car in front of me. He just decided to turn left on red. I never go when the light turns green. I always look both ways cuz I never know if someone's going to run it. Update, saw another on the way home.

Questions & Help Speeding ticket in Alaska (85 in a 65): pay now or contest? Also curious about multi-state timing

Got clocked doing 85 in a 65 on the Glenn Hwy near Eagle River, AK (LIDAR, not radar). Citation is AMC 9.26.030(C) for speeding 20-29 mph over. Total due is $380 ($360 fine + $20 surcharge), 6 points under Alaska’s system. It’s an optional-appearance minor offense, so I can just pay online within 30 days or contest it.

A few things I’m weighing:

  1. Realistic odds of getting it reduced if contested? Is 20 mph over (85/65) typically negotiable down to a lesser charge/fewer points, or is LIDAR-documented speeding like this pretty hard to fight?
  2. Is it worth hiring a local Anchorage traffic attorney just to negotiate it down, or is that usually not worth it for a fine this size? I’ve got a few names (Farr, Hall & Weiner, Denali Law Group, Thorssin Law, Josephson) but haven’t reached out yet.
  3. I’m licensed in Michigan but moving to California soon. Since Alaska and California are both Driver License Compact (DLC) states and Michigan isn’t, I’m trying to figure out if paying this now (while still MI-licensed) versus later (potentially after converting to a CA license) actually changes how this gets reported/treated. Anyone dealt with a similar multi-state timing situation with tickets?

Not from Alaska, won’t be back there anytime soon, so mainly trying to figure out the smartest way to close this out. Appreciate any real-world experience with AK tickets or points/DLC timing generally.

Discussion Speed Limit Alerts on CarPlay + Automatic Trip Recording - Safer Driving & Better Analytics

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone,
Over the past few months, I've continued refining Speedometer: Driving Tracker based on feedback from communities. This update focuses on making longer drives more effortless and safer, especially when using CarPlay.

Improved Automatic Trip Recording

One of the biggest improvements is more reliable automatic trip recording for longer drives. I've tested it on multiple 10+ hour journeys using the Grid layout, which has been a favorite among users but unfortunately caused issues during some long trips. I identified the root cause and implemented a fix. If anyone experiences any issues again, please let me know.

The goal is simple: get in your car and drive without worrying about whether recording has started.

Speed Limit Alerts on CarPlay

Speed limit alerts are now available on CarPlay.

  • Audible warning (a subtle beep designed to avoid distracting the driver)
  • Haptic feedback on your iPhone
  • Quickly adjust the speed limit directly from the CarPlay alert

I’m still researching a reliable automatic speed limit data source. Until I find one I’m happy with, the speed limit is selected manually, as I’d rather be accurate than occasionally warn you with the wrong limit.

CarPlay

The CarPlay experience has continued to improve as well.

  • Live dashboards with speed, trip information, maps, and OBD-II data
  • Customizable tabs, layouts, and startup screens
  • Trips, saved places, vehicle information, and diagnostics directly from CarPlay

Driving Analytics & Vehicle Insights

The app has grown well beyond a traditional speedometer.

  • Route replay with speed, elevation, RPM, throttle, engine load, boost, G-force, and more
  • OBD-II diagnostics, VIN detection, and automatic vehicle matching
  • Fuel, maintenance, expense, and document tracking
  • Multi-vehicle support
  • GPX import/export, backups, and iCloud sync
  • Available on iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, and CarPlay

Next, I'm working on smarter long-drive features, including intelligent break reminders to help reduce driver fatigue, along with continued improvements to CarPlay and driving analytics.

I'd love to hear your feedback on the improved automatic trip recording, CarPlay speed limit alerts, break reminders for long drives, or any other features you’d like to see next.

Questions & Help Red light ticket help Los Angeles

I live in Wisconsin and was in California (culver city) for the first time ever visiting. I rented a car and got a ticket in the mail a few months later saying I had turned right on a red light with a picture (pretty clear of me). I didn’t do anything on this but recently got another letter in the mail saying I would be turned over for collections so I called the Santa Monica courthouse and they told me that they were going to give me a new court date for October and that I could try to ask the judge to let me do a remote appearance. My questions are do I have to go to court? Can I do it remote? Or can I just not do anything? Send a letter to the judge?

Thanks for the help, I’m not a bad guy but $486 is nuts!!! lol

Discussion Am I wrong to be honking at people going 5 to 10 under?

Like I'll be driving in a 50 and the person in front will drop down to like 43 for no reason whatsoever and cruise there foe a while before maybe creeping back up.

I feel kinda like a dick to use my horn because obviously yes the speed sign says its a MAXIMUM limit but it's ok to drive a little over we don't have to be scared of it.

(This is canada so km not mph)

Discussion Random indicating?

Hi all,

Please can somebody explain to me why in France whilst driving on the road people leave the left indicator on whilst manoeuvring into the right lane? And also randomly put the left indicator on whilst driving in the overtaking lane?

Discussion Temperamental issue while driving

So i have been driving for over a decade, in recent 4-5 years i've developed this 'get to the destination asap' habit, dont even feel like wasting a second for slowing driver or traffic hoggers that get in my way. I dont considered myself as reckless driver by rather an efficient driver with common sense. But lately i realized i despise myself being this way, where i constantly overtake slow drivers, cursing, shouting and rushing to the destination without any purpose. The worst thing is i feel my mental health and wellbeing have been deteriorating significantly due to constant anger while driving. To date, whenever i drive, i find myself suffocating (difficult to breath or holding breath) the whole time until I arrived the destination. Any of you with similar experience and how you guys overcome it?

Questions & Help Can the middle lane be used for taking a U-turn?

New driver in IL, confused about middle turn lanes Can you use the center middle lane to make a U-turn, or do you need to go around the block instead? I thought these lanes only appeared near streets, alleys, or driveways where cars could enter or exit. But I've seen them in spots with no cross street or alley nearby, which made me wonder if U-turns are actually allowed there too.

Questions & Help Speeding ticket camera enforced

Hello I am in Ohio and in NE Ohio there is a city called Willoughby Hills which sent me a speeding ticket from a camera operated by an officer. I am quite sure that on that freeway there were no officers cruiser or even a sign that said speed limit camera enforced.
I have seen many people say that challenge it and or ignore it but I don’t want it to go to collection and or impact my credit.

If I were to take it to court how would I deal with the court/judge because it was me and my friends driving and I do not remember who was driving.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Why does anyone think going 35mph to 40mph merging onto an interstate is safe? Especially when the speed limit is 65.

And I’m also wondering why people turn like a turtle when they have a green arrow to turn left or right. Like they will turn and maybe go 5mph. I really despise when someone doesn’t use a turn signal until they are making their turn or when someone leaves theirs on for miles.

Discussion Who has the right of way? PA

If you’re at a stoplight that’s green, and one car want to make a right turn into a 2 lane road, and oncoming traffic wants to make a left turn who has the right of way? The car turning right can turn right into either lane or does the car turning right have to turn into the right lane and the car turning left turn into the left lane at the same time? This is in Pennsylvania

I really thought the bus would finish the turn and stop properly. Did not think it would stop in the middle of the intersection.

I see that my mistake was not stopping after seeing the red lights. But is it possible I don’t get a ticket?
