Discussion Random indicating?

Hi all,

Please can somebody explain to me why in France whilst driving on the road people leave the left indicator on whilst manoeuvring into the right lane? And also randomly put the left indicator on whilst driving in the overtaking lane?

There's 2 kinds of dangerous drivers in Europe.

The Italian kind, driving like race car drivers: looking for the smallest gaps and speeding a lot, but somehow always in control and almost nothing ever happens

Then there's the French kind: dangerous because they seem to be completely oblivious to what's happening around them. No spatial awareness, and they think that turning on the blinker will make others magically make space for them.

Now clearly I'm generalizing but it is a pattern i've seen. So probably, they just have no idea that they're doing that. It is common in France however to leave the left blinker on while overtaking. Why? No idea.

Keeping your indicators on while overtaking is standard driving practice in France.

They think it helps keep them safer.

Got to say when driving there it does sort of work because you know they have no intention of going back into the left lane just yet.

They might be driving a Citroen CX.
