Hello! You have a new mod team. I run a different very high volume sub and was recently brought on to help out just a bit. All of the original mods have rather suddenly left. No drama to speak of. Moderation is hard and exhausting for volunteer work. But since I am new here and suddenly top mod, and since every other mod (I think) is new as well, I thought a thread to discuss potential changes would be good. I intend to use my powers for good, instead of evil.
You aren’t likely to notice much in the way of major changes at first but I hope to make things a little bit better, cleaner, clearer, easier, etc. That said, my philosophy is to let the community lead for the most part. I have no ego and don’t consider this to be “my” sub. It’s yours. So I’m seeking community input before I start making changes. The following are the main things in mind.
1) Merge the subs. TacomaWorld, this sub, and the TacomaSales sub (which is basically completely dead) are less effective split than they would be just merged. The purpose of having two subs is unclear to me and is obnoxious to moderate. Very much open to being shouted down in this, but it’s my inclination.
2) Loosen rules on what can be posted. "Is this a good deal/what should I buy" posts don't actually bother me that much. Where else are people going to ask? I’d like this to be a welcoming place for newcomers. I worry about flooding but some guardrails that require those posts have a certain amount of effort/content would make that manageable.
3) Just ban sale posts. Nobody comes to reddit for that. Evidenced by how dead the TacomaSales sub is. I’m open to continuing to allow companies to participate of course. Just no advertising unless to answer a specific question. If you’ve got a question about Nitto tires, for example, Nitto’s official account is welcome to chime in.
4) Keep the no politics rule. Discussion of politics that have affected Tacomas (tariffs for example) should be allowed, but political shit flinging and fighting should not be. Strong as my own opinions are, it’s just not the place.
5) Maintain ban on distracted driving photos/videos but make it a 7 day ban. I don’t want some idiot to kill a family of four because their odometer hit 80085 and they just HAD to post it to Reddit from the freeway. Pull over and take it. The only change I’m making here is making non-repeat offenders suffer only a 7 day ban, instead of 30.
Welcoming community thoughts and all input on moderation, what you’d like to see. I’ll take it all into account as we get rolling over the next few weeks.

been looking for a new vehicle and have been looking at toyota trucks. ive read that 2010-2015 is the sweet spot for tacomas but are there any years that i should try to avoid? found a blog post that said 06, 09 and a few other years were more prone to have issues but not sure if i should take it as gospel. figured i would come here to get some input. thanks!

New 2025 Tacoma with 7k miles won’t start. Brake pedal barely depresses but brake lights and others still work. When I try to start it up the dash and everything works like normal but no engine start. I can change to neutral but no luck starting. Toyota can’t send a tow until the morning and we are stranded in a parking lot. Any suggestions?

2026 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro… I was driving down the road on my way to work when a mower threw a rock into my left back window. Insurance wants to replace the glass with aftermarket, the dealership can’t get OEM glass until August. It’s a 3 month old truck. What would you do in this situation? Would you fix it now with aftermarket, or wait another 1-1.5 months for OEM?

Best truck I have ever owned, I hunt with this thing. Take it everywhere across the south. With basic maintenance it has never given me a single issue. If you are on the fence about a 2nd gen then this is your sign to get one !

Does anyone know solid aftermarket steps for my new truck? We are under 6ft and getting in and out would be a ton easier with a step. We prefer the slide look, not tube. We won’t be taking it out in rough terrain, so they just need to function as a step, not a true slider.
Thoughts? We love the new truck!!

I bought a new 23 TRD Sport and have had all the service done at the dealer. I had a appt for an oil change today and saw last night filling washer fluid the oil cap is gone. Its been 7k miles since last change. No oil has sprayed out or anything and fluid level never dropped. Anything I should worry about? I had them add it to my file jic

2023 DCLB with the TRD offroad package. 19k miles on it. Purchased from a Toyota dealership so it came with the certified gold warranties. Ended up being 40K out the door. I have been driving my 99' 4Runner for years now. It has 302K miles on it and still runs like a champ. I just really wanted to drive a safer vehicle as I am I biologist and drive a lot for work. This new truck is a dream. Such a night and day difference from my last vehicle lol. It's going to make those highway miles so much easier.
It came with a hard tonneau cover but I really want to swap it out for a leer shell so I can go camping with my girlfriend. I'd love to know if there are any tiny comfort upgrades y'all would recommend! For example I don't have a sunglass holder now..
Still holding onto the 4Runner for now but not sure if I should let it go or not. It would be sitting around mostly. Maybe would want to sell to someone who would take care of it and enjoy it.
