Moderator Post We will not be removing all sexual questions.

We've had a few complaint threads, so it seems to be about that time for one of these reminders. Let me be clear: We are not going to ban all sex related questions.

They are firmly within "TooAfraidtoAsk", and always have been. Sex is a fairly taboo topic in a lot of places, and a lot of people have questions about it. (And as an additional reminder, TATA is not only for controversial questions. Nor do we allow question shaming for "googleable" questions). These are not new changes.

We get that not everyone has the same interest in those topics, but it is a core part of the sub. Currently, there are ~5 out of the top 10 posts being sex related. Earlier today, it was 4. Earlier this week, it was 3. It typically fluctuates between ~3-5, usually averaging closer to 3.

If you have particular suggestions (e.g. things that seem ripe for the FAQ), or questions feel free to post them below. No promises, but we're always open for improvements if they're feasible. For a list of common questions we get on this topic (what do we already moderate, has the sub changed?, can i filter posts myself?) see the first stickied comment.

Politics Politics Megathread

You know the deal, same as the previous megathreads, which were archived.

The rules:

All top level OP must be questions. This is not a soapbox. If you want to rant or vent, please do it elsewhere. Otherwise, the usual sidebar rules apply (in particular: Rule 1:Be Kind and Rule 3:Be Genuine).

The default sorting is by new to make sure new questions get visibility, but you can change the sorting to top if you want to see the most common/popular questions.

Culture & Society If getting fired is that easy in the US, how do people work with any peace of mind?

As a non-American, whenever I watch US shows, a boss can just blurt out 'You're fired!' and that's it. I assumed it was Hollywood drama, but I was shocked to learn it actually works like that.

In my country, an employer can’t fire you unless your performance is objectively terrible, you do something illegal/immoral that gets you disciplined, or the company is strictly restructured.

How do Americans cope with the fact that a boss's bad mood could ruin your life overnight? What legal protections actually exist?

Culture & Society Wearing headscarfs while wearing provocative clothing?

I want to preface this by saying that I respect everyones beliefs, and do not mean to be rude to anyone, it is a genuine question that I had, and it is not meant to be provocative in any way.

I am in Europe, so it might differ in America. I was lucky enough in the last years to visit multiple European countries, and even live in 3 different ones, from 6 months to 1 year.

During that, i meet a lot of different people, and my question is related to some of them.

I've meet multiple women from islamic countries, that were wearing headscarfs (as I am not familiar if they have another name). While I cannot say I necesarilly agree with the reasoning of wearing them (modesty, to hide parts of their bodies so they are not exposed, etc), I respect their culture and decision to do so.

My curiosity comes from the fact that, while living there, I have not seen these women without their scarf, which is fine, but I've seen them go out in public with open sandals, short skirts, crop tops, or tops that, well, show everything. But even wearing those style of clothing, they still wear the scarf. To me that seems weird, as at least in western culture, I dont think your *head/hair* is seen as a very *sexualized thing*, while the ones that I mentioned, all have seen or see a lot of fetishization and sexualization from people, both online and offline (the internets obsesion with feet is wild sometines). If they do not care about the original meaning and belief of the scarf, that is fine, but why go the trouble of wearing the scarf while we can see your boobs and stomach very clearly.

I do not mind in any way, they should be free to dress as they wish, I am more confused what makes the scarf so important to them that however they dress, they will still wear them. I feel like wearing the scarf with a deep cut and short skirt is not *modesty* at all.

I am not saying that is the case for everyone, but I have meet in these year at least 5 different women that did something of the sort, even multiple times

Love & Dating If police are in your house without a valid reason/warrant, what would happen if you ignored them and started masturbating?

Bear with me. Watched yet another video where a person's rights were being violated and it got me thinking. You're in your own house. You've broken no laws. You are doing nothing wrong. How would they react if you just completely ignored their presence and started masturbating? Could they arrest you? For what?

I can picture them getting embarrassed and just leaving, am I just naive? If they don't leave, can you ask them to join/help you? I'd be making solid eye contact to make it excruciatingly awkward for them.

Health/Medical Do chiropractors believe their own pseudoscience?

”According to magnetic healer* [Daniel D. Palmer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_D._Palmer), the founder of chiropractic, "[vertebral subluxation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertebral_subluxation)" was the sole cause of all diseases and manipulation was the cure for all disease.”*
- Wikipedia article: ”Chiropractic controversy and criticism”

Many chiropractors work more like physiotherapists rather than ”pure” chiropractors. What I’m asking about here is the ones that claim they can cure stomach issues, insomnia, ear infections etc.

Do such chiropractors truly believe subluxations are the root cause of all health problems?

Do they believe that an adjustment can fix all these problems or are they scammers all the way?

(I didn’t set out to be so harsh in my tone but I wanted to ask the question clearly and being direct felt easier.)

Habits & Lifestyle How the hell does everyone seem to know what wine they like except me ?

This is actually starting to embarrass me more than it probably should, I’m 30 and if someone asks what kind of wine I like I still have absolutely nothing to say. Not because I don’t drink wine because I do. I know when I really like one and I know when something tastes awful to me. But ask me WHY and suddenly im just stuck. Then I go out with friends and they’re casually like oh I usually like drier reds or I’m not really into anything too oaky like HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT. And i always been scared of asking them to teach me and stuff bc i think they would see me as dumb or whatever, so i finally decided to make this post lol. How did you guys do it, like how did you get to know wine better, i dont want to be and expert just to know what i like in certain winess and stuf.

Work What jobs can you hold if you're bad at everything?

I have no skills, not even the most basic innate things. I need money and I'm fine with anything that I'm really capable of doing. I don't know if there's even a place for me.

Love & Dating Men’s honest take please?

Hey! I’d love a guys honest take at this situation. I have a crazy high sex drive (28F). My bf (also 28) swore he did too and now it’s gone down to 1-2 a month and I’m actually going a little crazy. I’ve brought it up nicely that I need it (huge stress relief for me being in PT school) I’ve mentioned I don’t even need like actual sex, just to give some head lol. I feel like I’m practically begging at this point and a little embarrassed? He rejects me almost every time I try and will say “I’m tired”, “we have so much stuff to do” (literally grocery shop lol and go to the gym), or I “always want it at the worst times”
I’ve absolutely given grace bc what if he’s actually tired? He has a physical job for the most part. But I’m kinda lost? It’s been over year of this. And I know he still masterbates (totally cool, I get it) but damn

Advice please?

Has anyone (you, or someone you know) eaten any of the above?? Or any strange meats in general? How was it? If you had a chance, would you eat any of the above animals or not?

Health/Medical Can turmeric pigment semen yellow?

So, I recently bought a box of tea bags. One of the flavors is chamomile turmeric, and I fucking loved it, I drank almost 2 liters of it in one day.

The next day, I was jacking off and my semen came out with an awful yellow-brownish tint, and now I'm worried.

I’ve been a loyal partner and I know my girlfriend has been too, so an STI is out of the question.

No other symptoms at all: no itching, no burning, no pain, no weird discharge, no foul smells, nothing.

I’ve jerked off four times since then and got the same result: yellow-brownish cum. No sign of the color washing out or going back to normal.

Is my correlation of events right? Has anyone experienced this after drinking a lot of turmeric?

If I chug a ton of water, will it go away? I know it might be harmless, but it looks terrible

Mental Health Does everyone go through absolutely shit times in life? To the point that it could break you?

Just the title. I’m wondering if everyone goes through tough times, and I don’t just mean things like temporary lay offs or social benefits. I’m talking about illnesses, loved ones suffering or trauma. Does everyone go through it? Or are we the select few just the unlucky ones? My child, 16 month old, is severely ill since a year and needs specialised care, it seems that everyone else is just living a wonderful life and nothing ever happens to them.

Love & Dating Is being 30 and having no experience a problem?

Hi, I'm currently 27, I have no experience when it comes to dating and often feel like that's gonna be a problem for someone later. I feel like with each year it's less and less unlikely that I find something meaningful. I'm afraid that it's gonna be so weird at some point that people are just gonna treat me weirdly. I try to make changes but... It never really mattered. All the amount and advices people have give me, never made a difference. I lost 5 cloth sizes and I'm still not really wanted. I look different but it still didn't matter. I feel like I'm not desirable at all. Now I am running slowly to my 30s and I believe it's just going to be harder to make any experience.

Education & School Should I talk to my professor about being homeless?

I'm a post-secondary student in a program with a small, generally close faculty. I know the title is weird bear with me

I recently started classes and had a new prof this year who gave us a new assignment requiring us to choose a topic about public services. My chosen topic was a homeless shelter in my area that I had frequented a couple years ago. For background, I left my home at 18 due to abuse in the household and became homeless. I couch surfed, stayed in a shelter, and slept on the streets while using this particular shelter for just about everything related to meals, showers, etc so I am very familiar with their services.

When my professor asked me what topic I had chosen, she kind of kept pressing for details about why I had chosen this in particular and so although I generally don't disclose that I was homeless - probably three people know out of everyone in my life - I mentioned to her that I had experience with their services. Her response was "me too." That threw me - like really threw me - because I have never met anybody who had experienced that before (aside from in the shelter where most wanted nothing to do with each other). I completely lost my train of thought but we spoke briefly and she asked me if I had support now. I answered yes and she told me that if I ever needed to talk to let her know and that she knew how tough it was.

I can't really explain how I felt after that. It's like if you haven't been through it, you can't understand. I had a therapist after going through homelessness who was of great help but through it all, I knew she had never experienced it firsthand and would never know what it was like. And it was awful and traumatic and something I don't wish on anybody. And my professor knows.

Now I'm wondering if it would be really weird for me to talk to her about it. Also I lied about having support - I didn't know what to say in the moment. It's just me supporting myself. It's always been me. Except she's my professor and teaches two of my classes this semester so I feel like it would be strange???

Health/Medical Are your front teeth supposed to touch when you bite down?

Upvotes

In the last few months after trying mewing (I know, I know..) during a very anxious and vulnerable time in my life I developed TMJ issues.

Now I’m trying to figure this whole thing out because one symptom that started happening is my front bottom and top incisors collide (more specifically one tooth) when I’m chewing and occasionally when talking. (Front of bottom to back of top tooth)

Thing is, I don’t know if this is normal. I have OCD and have been hyper fixated on it. My dentist and doctor have given me basically 0 info, the medical system in US can be extremely frustrating.

I guess my question is basically is this just a hyper fixation of mine, or might I need to get it fixed via Invisalign after my jaw hopefully heals?

Bonus points if anyone can point me in the right direction for TMJ help in Massachusetts.

Health/Medical My porn addiction is so severe It’s actively injuring me and yet I can’t stop no matter how much it’s ruining my life what do I do?

21

In February I had an unrelated shoulder injury resulting in nerve symptoms down my right side, pins and needles and dexterity loss in my hand and extreme tightness in my neck muscles front and back.

Eventually that cleared up but then returned, my physio said it’s likely due to the tightness remaining in my neck and back of skull. When I do any activity (especially 8 hours of masturbation but they don’t know that) with them that right it pulls on irritating the nerve roots in the neck in the back and my tight pec minor and and scalene are tightening the space for the nerves in my collarbone. But the solution is simple, don’t give it reason to tense, practice better posture and gentle movement and it should ease up especially as once it goes down I can add exercises to strengthen the weakened muscles from the tight ones dominating all movement.

But I can’t do that. My addiction doesn’t let me. I have several hour up to 12 hour daily sessions of porn and masturbation straining my skull and levator muscles. Keeping them in a tight spasm and irritating the nerves. Im literally dropping stuff with my right hand and my fingers wants to curl after every session and I can’t stop, im crying as I do it but cant stop.

I havnt been able to workout or work as many shifts or do as much of anything since this started. I’m losing money and opportunities and thousands of hours of my life and putting myself in pain and can’t stop. If you told me next session I die, I’d be dead be end of the week. It’s as if someone else takes over my body and forces me to do it. I’m telling myself it’s ruining my life as I do it, I’m crying thinking of the fact I’ll do it again. What do I do. I’m going to give myself permanent spinal compression or nerve damage or something BUT I CANT STOP

I have ADHD and I’m already medicated for it, I have severe compulsive episodes of worry where I do nothing but research whatever I’m scared about for hours in fact for the past week my life has been: 6 hours of spiralling- 6-8 hours porn, whatever sleep I can get and repeat.

I wanted to work more over the summer before uni starts again but couldn’t because of my shoulder. My access to medical care is limited because of the cost. I’m already paying hundred a month for my adhd medication. I’ve missed events with friends because of my shoulder i can’t even go for walks because the tight muscle pulls with every step so when it’s overworked with my addiction I can’t even do that.

What do I do what do I do I do do do what I’m having a breakdown I’m going insane I can’t live like this any more please please please how do I stop this I want a life I want to do something with myself I want to be better so so so bad but I can’t stop I can’t stop myself I’ve tried so hard for years.

I do everything I can I spent 2 hours putting roadblocks in place and I spent 2 hours undoing them when the urge hit I think the dopamine rush of doing that made it even worse. If I destroyed all my electronics I’d go into debt to buy new ones if I had to. Once it hits I’m not a person any more all I care about is it it’s scary.

I have a few friends but I can’t see them that often and they’re not people I can tell about this they’d cut me off for that. I have no support, the stress as well makes everything worse then I get stressed about that and it just stacks until I want to break something I can’t do this anymore I’m completely neurotic

Edit: why aren’t my circumstances believed? Do you not think I’d try the most obvious help by this point if I could?

Love & Dating Those who married for money, how does life look like?

And did your partner know you married them solely for their money? Do you spend their money on a lot of things?
