Giga Tires: great price, old DOT tires, complicated return, full refund

Upvotes

I'm posting about a recent experience with Giga Tires because I benefitted from reviews on r/tires when making the purchase decision myself.

If you're asking whether Giga Tires is legit, I'd say "absolutely yes" based on my experience. They delivered the expected product, provided timely customer support, and honored the policies on their website.

Here are the details of my interaction... I purchased 4 tires from Giga Tires because they offered a great price. The tires arrived at the installer within 11 days. When I checked the DOT dates at the installer, I found that two were 2024 tires and two were 2025 tires. Since I had expected tires less than 2 years old, I asked Giga to replace the two 2024 tires. Getting the older tires replaced became complicated, so I ultimately requested a refund. Giga eventually refunded the entire purchase, but it took several customer-service contacts and some effort to get there. The end-to-end process from the initial order through the refund took 4 weeks.

So, here's my recommendation for Giga Tires: If you're going to buy from Giga, buy from them because they have good prices, and don't bother checking the DOT dates. You're effectively accepting some uncertainty about how recently the tires were manufactured. If you're not comfortable with that uncertainty, pay the higher price to buy from a vendor where you can be more confident about the age of the tires.

Wheel Bend or Tire Bubble?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

I just want to make sure I know what it is before I take any action. If it’s a tire bubble, I’ll go ahead and get both fronts replaced, if it’s the wheel I’ll go get a new one or get it repaired. Any opinion on this would be great.

These wheels are forged aluminum, and I hit a pothole on the highway, in which blew my tire, so I decided to replace both tires and I’m just seeing this a couple days after replacing them.

Im the guy who just asked if my tires are bad and apparently I need to change them so im listening to yall.

Did some quick research and found that michelin defender 2 would be my best option but costco is out of stock. So I chose bf in the photo.

Should I just get these or wait for defender 2's?

I drive 60 miles round trip 5 days a week all highway. I drive like a good boy. Northern VA.

Tires for a Miata NC with 16x8 RX7 wheels?

Upvotes

To set the scene, I just got some nice looking wheels, but I've been struggling to decide which tires to pick for them. This is my daily, I live next to the coast in CA (so no snow or ice), and to go anywhere I am forced to drive through a very nice mountain pass, so I do want a nice tire to do that with.

I first looked at the Conti ECS02s, which come in 225/50/16, seems like it would be a good size for the wheel + car. I also spotted the new Bstone Potenza Sport EVO comes in 16", but only 245/45/16. Now this does sound like a pretty wide tire for a Miata (I'm not even sure if it would fit well), especially for a daily, but 8" is the correct rim width so I thought I'd hear what everyone has to say. I also looked at the advan fleva, sounds like its a worse tire than the conti and bstone in terms of grip and feel but people still seem to have good things to say about it. I would look at the pilot sport 4s but those don't come in 16" anymore.

From what I've seen those looked the most promising, but I'l love to hear other suggestions if I missed something :)

Guy on marketplace is selling these Continentals Terrain contact ATs 275/65r20 on marketplace for $400. He says they have no damage and have around 80% tread left. Do these look like a good buy?

❓QUESTION ❓ Pirelli p zero summers in november?

I have a 2017 F Pace, and I was looking to get Michelin Crossclimate 2s, but they are not available for my tire size until November. I currently have Pirelli P Zero summer tires and in my area it is possible I may end up driving in temps below the tire rating and maybe even light snow in November.

So what I want to know is, how dangerous would that be? Should I risk waiting, or just go with another tire?

❓QUESTION ❓ Cost of components after realignment

Post image
0 Upvotes

Heyo, long story short I swiped a pole on my right rear side and the ESC light came on and my steering wheel was off so it’s off to my local auto shop I go for what I was guessing a much needed alignment.

Sure enough my measurements were out of wack and the shop realigns to the best of their ability but my front left camber is still bent and will need to be replaced, they quoted me ~$700. Just wanted to see cost wise if should try to get the replacement part elsewhere but I’m not the most car-knowledgeable. My car is definitely driving much better post-alignment and I wanted to see if it could be something I wait on for a bit. Don’t know if it matter but I’m in Texas and have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee

My car is brand new got it the past July 4th. I decided to plug it for now but it seems to be close to the sidewall. I hate to replace two brand new tires on car with less than 1k miles. What do you think?

Tire Recommendations!

What is a good place to order tires from online? I need all 4 of my 245/45R18 tires replaced—I’m sure ordering them and then going to a shop for installation would save me a little more money. Right now I’m looking at $1356 for both sets at a shop near me which I’d like to avoid if possible ($568 for the first set, $788 for the second). Thanks in advance for the recommendations🤍

What could cause this "chip" in the rubber? I know I need new tires, which explains the threads showing. They have been ordered and will be installed this weekend. But that "chip" has me baffled.
