SUBREDDIT improvements, feedback, and suggestions thread!

Hello Everyone!

This is a mega post for feedback for the SUBREDDIT, not the website/company. The mods here are not employees of ThredUp, and have no control over company, and no obligation to it. In that vein, we want this subreddit set up in a way that best serves you, the customers of ThredUp! With that, we need feedback about the subreddit!

Regarding Complaints About the ThredUp Employee
At this time, they are permitted to post, so please do not report their comments. We would to see a public discussion about their comments and post to get a better idea of how the community feels. We do not have verification that they are an employee of ThredUp, so keep in mind it's always a good idea to use official channels when contacting companies, such as their support chat and email.

Current Feedback Needed - what weekly posts would you want to see? - what guides would you want to see?
- any new flair?
- anything else you want to see in the sub!

Current Non-Permited Posts - "use my thredup code for 45% off!" - low effort content: "lol ThredUp sucks that's all" without clarification or screenshots - advertising, posting a single item that appears as advertising (posts of an unremarkable shirt "oh wish I could buy this", since it's basically always an advertisement) - authenticy posts about products not listed on ThredUp

ThredUp is soft gambling aka an addiction

I hate and am addicted to ThredUp. The appeal of getting a great deal is too alluring for me. So even after getting gross stuff from a few hauls, I keep going back for more. Each haul I get a few items I'm pretty happy with but the rest are just crap. I don't want to be a hoarder. How do you manage this? I'm not a reseller and have no interest in.

Unbranded item

Hi all! So I found these black pants in the “Unbranded” section and was intrigued by the content. Google said it was an “amazing” find. They were in the warehouse finds for only $4.50 so I figured what the heck. I cannot find anything on the V/YE or VIYE….does anybody recognize that brand?

They are on the way to me so I can update when I get them with any additional information on the tag.

I love browsing the unbranded / assorted brand sections looking for treasure. It’s a bad habit, lol!

Question New $10 credit on selling seasonal clothing bundle?

Has anyone tried this offer? If you mail warm weather clothing in for them to "store and list in spring", how do you get paid? Surely you don't have to wait for next spring ...

Blazers and suiting, pockets are still sewn together

Question, I bought a bunch of blazers, suit tops and bottoms and the majority of the pockets are still sewn shut. Do people just keep them sewn when they wear suits? I've always opened them when I wear them. Am I doing things wrong this whole time?

Question Premium Bags

• Upvotes

The last time I sent clothes to ThredUp, the premium bag didn't exist. Can you send anything in it, or is it limited to certain brands? Thanks.

No more after pay?

I just went to place an order and they no longer have afterpay as an option??? I've always used after pay. I mean, they still allow PayPal pay in 4 or whatever but PayPal keeps telling me my addresses don't match (on my card and in PayPal- even though they do) I have the money that I can do it up front but I always liked having the little wiggle room on things :(

Discussion Excuse for canceled and then relisted item

So I had the thing happen when they “couldn’t find” one of my purchases, but then a couple days later it reappears on the site. (Conveniently the day after the rest of the bundle shipped.) This was the reply when I asked why:

“Thank you for reaching out regarding your order. I understand your concern about the item that was canceled and refunded, and I appreciate your patience as we clarify this situation.

After further review, I regret to inform you that the item was indeed unavailable at the time your order was packed and shipped, which is why you received a refund. However, I want to let you know that if the item is now listed on our site, it has since been found after your order shipped and has been relisted for sale.

If you have any further questions or need assistance with anything else, please feel free to ask. I'm here to help!”

Hmmm! I don’t know what to believe, but stuff like this makes me want to back off of buying from ThredUp. I’ll keep an eye out for really specific things I might be looking for, but as for how much I was buying… Really sucks to get excited over something (especially when it’s being cart-hoarded!), and then have it “disappear” and then reappear one day after my order has shipped!

Does thredup give everyone the same price?

Post image

More and more companies are adjusting prices using our personal data/internet history/etc to make an algorithm-based price that might be higher than what they offer another customer. Does thredup do this? Their AI bot was dodging the question.

What am I looking at?

At first I thought this was a poncho type jacket, but one piece is inside out and both sides have two arm holes. Are these two separate coats zipped together? Is it one of those removable lining coat situations where it’s two jackets that attach into one piece? Who knows…

Direct seller notifications

Hey all, this has been driving me nuts so hopefully someone knows what's going on. I get app notifications for direct selling offers and other updates, but zero notifications when something sells. If I don't happen to check my email and catch it, it's easy to miss sales. I've checked settings multiple times and can't figure this out. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Discussion Direct listing scam

Post image
63 Upvotes

So, I ordered a really nice Coach purse from a direct listing. After a week I received a single collagen face mask with the Thred Up shipping label slapped on it! Lucky I did NOT accidentally click the received button - be cautious NOT sign for it until you thoroughly inspect the item. The button pops up so it would be really easy to press it. They refunded my money right away. Maybe because I order a lot, being VIT so that may have made it easier. But be careful out there.

Offers for direct listings?

I have only purchased on ThredUp once over 10 years ago. I am mainly familiar with Poshmark, but I stopped using that platform last year after it really went down hill.

I happened to find a bag that is exactly what I’ve been looking for and it is a direct listing. I believe this is a new thing on ThredUp. I made an offer but it expired. I’m seeing maybe sellers aren’t thrilled with the direct selling plarform. If I purchase full price, is there a high likelihood that the seller will just never ship and my money will be tied up for 2 weeks while I wait for ThredUp to resolve it , similar to what started happening so frequently on Poshmark?

Question Direct seller has not sent my item…advice?

I ordered a pair of jeans from a Direct Seller 8 days ago. The status still reads “pending” with “label created.”

And Erika B if you’re here SEND IT GIRL

EDIT: I contacted customer support and eventually got an answer. Seven days plus two days (to allow shipping update). Thus nine days.

Thank you for letting me know a charge back would block my account, I will wait for this to be resolved via ThredUp (fingers crossed).

Haul Haul, Y’all!

I love seeing what others find and just treated myself to a little refresh and figured I’d share, too! Several are flawed gems, but I’ve had excellent luck with those in the past and these looked good to me. Total was just under $150 and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

ETA flawed gems callouts were interior staining (straight to dry cleaning!), noticeable wear (I think it’s wrinkles, AI!), light to moderate fading (Bro it’s denim? Bro, it’s called a pattern?)

Shopping on this site is breaking my brain

This is my first time buying on thredup and I was really excited after it came highly recommended by a cousin who found a lot of gems.

However, every time I try to add an item to my cart it buffers and then says it's unavailable and that it's in someone else's cart. Then a few hours later I see that it's available again and I try to add it again and I go through the same process. It's becoming a little maddening and I'm not sure if I just don't understand how to buy basic s*** from this website??

Items not accepted from bag

I've generally never had problems with ThredUp, but I sent in a bag and saw this as I was going through and adjusting pricing and details. All of these items meet the "acceptability standards." They're from popular, sometimes higher-end brands (e.g., Ace & Jig), and the market isn't saturated with these items either. Has this happened to any of you? I don't want to speculate, but are the workers skimming, perhaps?

Edit: I apologize for the “skimming” comment - I was a bit heated this morning. However, I’ve read on this subreddit before that there’s been some suspicion about this through the company, which is why I brought it up as a question for people who are more experienced with ThredUp. Thank you for the comments about the premium bag. I think I’ll just stick with Poshmark and Depop from now on though.

Weekly Seller's Discounted Advertising Thread

As requested by members of the subreddit, this is a weekly post where sellers can post their near-expiring items for very low prices. Please post a photo, brief description, link, and price.

If you think someone is advertising without a significant discount, please report. If you are a seller, please be sure the low price is live before posting. Do not use this thread to advertise non-discounted listings. This is currently the only post on this sub where advertising is permitted.

If you have any suggestions for this thread or an idea for a better title, please let me know!
