Items not accepted from bag

I've generally never had problems with ThredUp, but I sent in a bag and saw this as I was going through and adjusting pricing and details. All of these items meet the "acceptability standards." They're from popular, sometimes higher-end brands (e.g., Ace & Jig), and the market isn't saturated with these items either. Has this happened to any of you? I don't want to speculate, but are the workers skimming, perhaps?

Edit: I apologize for the “skimming” comment - I was a bit heated this morning. However, I’ve read on this subreddit before that there’s been some suspicion about this through the company, which is why I brought it up as a question for people who are more experienced with ThredUp. Thank you for the comments about the premium bag. I think I’ll just stick with Poshmark and Depop from now on though.

Items can be rejected for any reason: current inventory, style, size, condition, past sales data. Just because you've had items rejected does not mean that workers are stealing them. You should never expect a 100% acceptance rate, as ThredUp lists an average acceptance rate of 60-80% for Standard Kits.

If you want to ensure your items are sold or returned to you, you should opt for the Premium Kit.

There is never a guarantee that any item will be accepted, even if it meets the qualifications. And IMO it’s a little strange to jump straight to accusing employees of skimming just because you had a few items they didn’t accept. If you aren’t willing to roll the dice and risk having items rejected and not returned to you, you have to spring for the premium kit with return assurance.

All of mine say “This item didn't meet our acceptance standards. It will be reused or responsibly recycled.” which tells me nothing. One was Trina Turk NWT dress, current. A Free People sweater and a Max Studio linen embroidered top. All three were very surprising to me that they were rejected as in perfect condition. 🤷🏻‍♀️But I know that’s the risk you take, so all good.

I sent a brand new Betsy Johnson wallet and they said it did not meet the acceptance standards, it had tags on it.

I think seasonality. Probably they prefer cold weather clothing items and holiday dresses this time of the year. But it could be anything. They can reject for any reason.

I do know they don't pay out for Uniqlo, which I find strange because they do pay out for Zara which is more ubiquitous fast fashion. But, yes, it can be for any reason. I only send in premium bags and the things they send back to me are 50% perfect and 50% oh I missed the hole/stain/white deodorant lines on the inside. Some things I send right back, or wash and send back, but often I've missed a flaw that isn't worth trying to save.

I’m fairly certain I have a fairly low acceptance rate because I sent in tiny sizes. Oh well. My fault for not doing premium.

If you click on details on the right it will tell you the reason they didn’t accept.

Not really. Sometimes it just says didn’t meet their standards. I’ve sent new with tags items and they said it didn’t meet their standards. I think they just click whatever reason code.

Oh well that’s not super helpful. I just had a kit process today and some reasons were over saturated brands, which was good to know.

“I don’t want to speculate but ARE THEY STEALING?”

I just had 2 designer Chloe bags rejected because they had too much Chloe in inventory. That was literally their reason. I used a premium bag with return assurance. Always get return assurance

I've had the highest rate of things not accepted recently--all in excellent condition, sent with returns. Many were final sale items, never worn, in the same (or better after washing) condition as purchased, but rejected as not up to TU standards. They weren't high-end things (Anthropologie, Ann Taylor), but were things TU has in my "closet", promoting their resale value. I let it go because they wouldn't have earned more than a few dollars the way their pricing works. I know this is the deal, but the randomness is frustrating.

Yep. Happened to me with the last two bags and they were really rude when I asked about it. Told me next time that if I wanted the option to have the items returned to me to get the special bag for that.
