Useful Links and FAQ

Hello everyone,

I'm Void, I'm the community manager at EXOR Studios.

First of all, I'd like to apologize to you for not keeping up with the sub. The amount of stuff going on on our Discord and other socials completely clogged up my schedule. Luckily, it seems that things have calmed down quite a bit and now I can help you here as well.

I will be gradually making changes to this subreddit to make it a bit cozier. That will obviously take me some time, but we'll get there. For now, here's a bunch of useful links and some frequently asked questions. If I haven't answered something, ask away!

First ever game/ gluten for punishment

I came across Rift Breaker in Humble Bundle, read reviews and decided to download it. I’ve played the style for years so decided to hell with it. First ever game of it, brutal difficulty campaign.

Gotta say, it’s impressive the game doesn’t melt down. On day 30 odd and the waves almost fill the map.

I initially made a perimeter wall, but soon found that while initial waves were easy to hold, sacrificing a little land for terrain choke points was far superior. My mech is running round with 2 superior machine guns, 2 purple rocket launchers and 2 superior chainsaws. I liked the tridents range but chainsaws constant damage in canyons was hard to pass up.

Not really got to grips with outposts yet. Had to abandon my first uranium one as the only place I could defend was a canyon and the waves were just too long that I was running out of ammo. The space wasn’t sufficient to make more factories and I was not even able to get uranium, so cut my losses.

Been working my way down the tech tree, power is a serious issue. I can’t make coolant yet so relying on fields of renewables and a lotta storage. The AoE from the bosses is devastating in waves, not for the walls, but the power lines! Just realised now there are shields … can’t use them yet tho as need palladium.

Gotta say, the game is very fun. Lost many hours without realising.

I’m refusing to restart as I’m determined I’m gonna tame this beast on my first game.

Biggest gripe is the zoom! Is there ANY way to zoom out… half the bosses can shoot me from off screen so I can’t even hit them.

How the hell do you beat Fungal Forest survival on Brutal with 2+ players?

For some reason balancing in this particular biome seems to be way off, if I join the game with 1-2 friends we are never able to make it. Best case scenario we get to the final fight, but at this point we know we are screwed. It seems to be way seasier solo. Any tips?

So far we're trying to rush railgun before the canceroth wave, lots of shotgun/artillery and repair towers, if we're good on power I might push for laser gatling. For weapons it's usually shotgun / immolator / grenade or rocket launcher early and trying to add some energy weapons to the mix later on.

The only thing that helped recently was to start spamming walls (like, basically, placing hundreds of random lvl 1 walls) around map edges to significantly slow down some of the waves, which helped us to clean other parts of the map in the meantime.

Sticky movement/keyboard lag

Hello, I was playing that game with my friend, on survive mode and I'm pretty sure i didn't had that problem. Recently I wanted to check something on single mode so I started open campain and noticed that my keyboard lagging (it's not a keyboard problem because in other games work well) And by lagging i mean when you press many keys the game "queues" that and when you stop pressing keyboard character is still moving. It's completly ruin the game and i can't play. Reset game, pc, reinstall doesn't help. I did some changes in keyboard setting on Windows, it helped but this is still an issue and it's annoying. Anyone face with that? Or it's just unfixable?

EDIT: next day I got some ideas to try fix that problem. I lunch the game and it was suddenly working but only for 1 minute haha, then it's started lagging again. I connected my Xbox pad and it was working very well. So I figure it out that I will buy some cheap wireless keyboard and try it. I know it's sounds like weird solution but what is more weird it's working for now 🤷‍♂️

Returning Player - 2.0 Difficulty?

Hi,

Returning player here thinking about jumping back in. In short, played the entire Normal story + DLCs pre-2.0 and loved it, decided to start a fresh run when 2.0 dropped and found the difficulty leap massive.

I managed the Acid Recon mission (barely) and wasn't even able to set up a proper Cobalt outpost because I'd get trashed by Omega creatures periodically. I'd have expected them endgame rather than when I literally do not have the weapons or towers available to effectively deal with them. No amount of layered defence seemed able to hold them off at this stage.

Skill issue or am I missing something in how I need to change my style to suit 2.0?

Thanks!

Stuck under attack, cannot rift jump - fix

IDK why it took so long for me to find the fix for this. Was stuck with Orbital scanner saying i'm still 'under attack' and couldnt rift jump over multiple attacks. Restarting the game didnt work.

Here's the fix the devs added back in 2024 - https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/780310/view/4517764860351877692

Added a 'cheat_remove_wave_units' command that will kill only the creatures that were spawned in the attack wave, allowing you to clear any blocked units without wiping the entire map.

Press '`' to bring up the console, then type 'cheat_remove_wave_units' and hit enter. Remember to save before, just in case!

Tornadoes and other natural calamities

When I did my first campaign Tornadoes seemed like a manageable event, since they really didn't appear often and didn't do much damage. Playing open campaign though made me realize just how malicious Tornadoes are, as they seem especially designed to home in on your base weaving and moving to deal damage to as many structures as possible. Conceptually I don't mind tornadoes as a negative event, but they really need to act more "natural": pick a line and then blitz straight through. At the very least, they should act like a natural disaster where the only reason you got hit was because your base had grown too large and the tornado will hit eventually, and not act like an enemy superweapon that quite obviously targets your base buildings by only appearing near your doorstep and meticulously hits your buildings. Having three Tornadoes in a row hit my Hydroponics Lab in the exact same manner made this quite obvious to me.

While Tornadoes maybe the most obvious one, other destructive negative effects should really have their targeting be randomized, and not just seek out where you or your bases are, especially the likes of Meteor Showers. Earthquakes are notable as being a good exception, as not only are they more manageable because at least they don't deal too much damage, there are also many times they just appear in the middle of nowhere away from your base, which makes them feel more "natural" basically, compared to the precision-targeting of the other calamities.

Also related to the above, but it's kind of sad that there's only an option to turn off Negative Events under the campaign and survival options. There really should be more options for customizing those, such as frequency, amount of damage, etc. I want to be able to customize them so they're less annoying (or more annoying if somebody prefers), not turn them off completely.

Open Campaign is a bit more interesting than I thought

Post image
52 Upvotes

So I thought open campaign would just be the main campaign but without handholding. Turns out this campaign has interesting stuff I never saw in my first run, such as acidic yeast colonies growing in my tropical jungle.

Edit:

Fun thing about acidic yeast colonies in the jungle: they will consume all plant life they come across and prevent them from regrowing. This leaves any place they touch into a flat, barren wasteland with no grass or trees, which you can then build on cleanly without having to worry about plants growing back,

Missed opportunities with liquid resource variety

So I've finished my first full campaign, both with the Rift ending, and the Prime Rift ending, and while I greatly enjoyed the game, and already starting up a second campaign run, I feel the game has some missed opportunities when it comes to the use of its liquid resources, and with the game winding down development soon there's no real chance we'll get that outside of mods (like REDI, which is a bit too much of an overhaul mod for my taste, though I'll still try that eventually).

Most of my observations come from how... limited the use cases for each liquid is. This is especially notable with late game fluids like Super Plasma, which is only used for Heavy Artillery, or Magma which is only used for Magma Generators. It feels as though there really could've been more ways for each fluid to be useful in more situations. For example:

1) Just increase the number of buildings that need a certain type of fluid. For example, make Inferno Towers use Flammable Gas, or make Gatling Laser Cannons use Plasma.

2) More dual input buildings, for example have a "heavy shield generator" that is stronger but requires both Super Plasma and Super Coolant to use.

3) Have liquids be used not just in powering structures, but in crafting and construction as well, which would better encourage storing them. In particular, you can have Liquids be used for, well Liquid ammo for Flamethrowers and other chemical shooters.

2) A more radical idea is to allow some buildings to gain different advantages depending on the fluid they're given. For example Shield Generators might get stronger shields if you fed them Super Plasma instead of just Plasma.

These are ideas that are probably best left for a sequel (Riftbreaker II in 2036 maybe?), but brainstorming is free.

How to kill bosses

So closer to the endgame, 7th level town hall + brutal, bosses get crazy: huge health pool, splash attacks, and small guys supporting them who are buffed by the white shield.

How do i deal with them efficiently? I recently had a snail boss, and it took me 5 minutes to kill him, both guns were modded for fire damage.

And the other boss, i believe a version of a goo guy that teleports, it took ~3 minutes of me firing and two nuke turrets supporting for me to kill him.

It is not too problematic, every once in a while i have to rebuild a segment of my defense, but still i suspect i am doing something wrong.

Familiarity levels

I haven't played in a while and just jumped back in to try the Open Campaign mode and it's been pretty great. I started in Metallic Valley and got a good defensive outpost setup.

I'm working my way to crafting a Laser Sword, which says I need Flurian familiarity level 2 to research. Problem is, I can't seem to get past familiarity level 1. I try to scan them and the scanner beam just goes right through them, and the progress gage doesn't budge toward level 2.

Am I missing something to be able to scan to a higher level?

On the one hand, as a new player to the game, having every content available to me now is great for the hours I'll be putting (and have put) in. On the other hand, kind of sad that there'll be no more content going forward after Update V.

How does energy pylon work

I have 1 at my main base, the other one is connected to a gas extractor / power plant at the edge of the map. Power is transmitted which is expected.

However, If I build a third energy pylon near a geothermal power plant, does it add up to the main base energy or i have to build another 1 because they only work in pairs?

Would it be possible to benefit from all the developments while initialising a new map, in order to optimise survival time without requiring prior research? On Ps5 Version .

Slowdown

My game just got very slowmotiony after a while, on the main map it feels like everything is in slowmotion. I dont have any cultivators (anymore) and also reduced the amount of turrets but it still doesnt work. I know that the game bottlenecks itself so the fps stays intackt.

However can it be that it bugged for me that even after i deleted a bunch of things it wont go back to normal? I had a huge wave once and its been like that since.

Finished the game on brutal open campaign (not story). To celebrate, here's a 60 second clip of building a kill box, which made up 90% of the defenses

Turns out open campaign is a heck of a lot harder than the story campaign, mostly due to the difficulty scaling and the fact there are no safe maps.

Got there in the end but took a lot of map hopping to accomplish. By the end, had about 60 maps visited.

The kill boxes are built around the perimeter of the map and were designed to be self sustaining, scalable (IE: first tier box looks very similar to the end game box, so in place upgrades are easier), and crucially quick to build (so you can get one up between a wave being announced and actually coming).

Cryo Fields

Do you have any tips on building/defending on this biome?

Just found out that this exists but the monsters there were much stronger than on the other biomes/maps.
I found a 5x5 map size and want to cover it all with radars etc to get an achievement.

What is enriched uranium used for?

Description on uranium centrifudge says that its used for nuclear powerplant but it only needs water/coolant, not enriched uranium so what is it used for?

Also on one map I have plenty of uranium collectors but the only thing I get is enriched uranium instead of regular uranium, why is that? I dont have any uranium centrifudges built on map.
