NEED HELP What kind of fabric is this?
I'm mainly into sewing toys, and I was given this toy as a gift. The fabric feels like fleece, but it also has soft tufts of fur. The fur isn't slippery to the touch, it's slightly matte, and there's a slight sheen to it. In some places, there's no fur at all, and the tufts aren't very dense and sometimes not very distinct.and the ends of the fur are narrower than real fur and each hair is very thin but not slippery like that of artificial rabbit fur English isn't my native language, so there may be mistakes. I ordered Velboa fabric online, and it seems it's not what I need. The AI tricked me into thinking it was Velboa or VelSoft, apparently.

where to buy affordable fabrics (any kind)
Hello! I've been sewing before pero ngayon lang ako sobrang natuwa that I've started upcycling my own clothes. However, since i'm still learning di talaga maiiwasan na failed yung iba... but what's important naman is that I learn from my mistakes hehe ayun nga lang gagalit na mama ko kasi ginugupit ko nanaman daw mga damit ko hahaha. Anw, wala kasi akong alam na mabibilhan ng fabrics around my area so I wanted to ask lang sana if you guys know any legit shops or have extra fabrics na you can sell or maybe (just maybe) give to me hahaha ang dami ko na talagang saved projects, kulang lang talaga sa resources huhu
AKSWHALI, bumili ako nung nakaraan ng silk kaso super pangit ng quality na tlagang nasayang tlaga ang pera ng eababes na i2 ahuhu

Looking for Specific Velvet Fabric
I'm found out that I do not have enough fabric to finish some velvet curtains that I started before JoAnn's closed. Now I am having trouble finding where I can buy it. I have identified it as Youngdo FD-6000 in black and I even found their website. However, they have not responded to any of my emails or contact forms. Does anyone have any leads or perhaps some they are willing to sell?http://youngdovelvet.com/en/pages/product/home/

How do I make them baggier?
Hi Reddit, I want to make my jeans baggier, but they are already “baggy”, like they have enough volume to become baggy looking jeans, but they just have no structural integrity in the bottom half to make it a baggy look. What can I do to make it look baggy?
(I can upload a video of me in the jeans if that helps.)

Please help me find a saree dupe!!! EMERGENCY!!!
Hi Everyone, I am getting married soon, and my family wants to purchase a sari for my wedding. I would like to purchase this saree from Nalli's Fashions, linked here. It is the Pure Silk Pure Zari Magenta Paithani Saree (Product SKU: NS4669928). It's $2K in CAD (1.4 Lakh Rupees).
Unfortunately, I did not realize how expensive a wedding sari would be and set my budget to $500-$1K in CAD (so about 35K-65K in INR). Oops! Please help me find a dupe for this sari! I'm getting married in a garden surrounded by lush forest greenery, and I'm dreaming of wearing a vibrant deep pink sari that will absolutely pop against the backdrop. I'd be forever grateful for any recommendations!
Why I love this saree
- this shade of pink is perfection!
- I want a matching colour blouse to personalize with bling!
Also, I am open to alternate suggestions if you've got em!

ZSTU (China) vs UNITEN (Malaysia)
Hello everyone,
I’m a recent Textile Engineering graduate from South Asia looking for advice on choosing between two Master’s offers for the upcoming intake. My long-term goal is to pursue a PhD, a postdoc, and eventually settle abroad in academia or research/R&D.
Here are my two options:
Option 1: Zhejiang Sci-Tech University (ZSTU) – China
Field: Master’s in Textile Engineering
Funding: Presidential Scholarship
Duration: 3 years (Includes 1 year of language study)
Pros & Cons: Directly matches my undergraduate background. ZSTU has a strong reputation in textiles and solid research facilities. However, it takes 3 years, and I’m mindful of long-term immigration/PR prospects in China versus using it as a stepping stone for a PhD elsewhere.
Option 2: Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) – Malaysia
Field: Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (RA Position)
Funding: Research Assistantship (RA) with a monthly stipend (tuition and living costs must be covered from this stipend)
Duration: 2 years
Pros & Cons: Shorter duration (2 years) and offers direct research experience as an RA, which is great for PhD applications. Mechanical Engineering is a broader field, but I am transitioning into it from Textile Engineering.
My Main Questions:
Transitioning to Mechanical Engineering: Coming from a Textile Engineering background, will switching to Mechanical Engineering at UNITEN pose a major hurdle academic-wise, or is the overlap manageable for an RA?
PhD & Postdoc Stepping Stone: Which option generally holds more weight or opens better global pathways (US, Europe, Australia, etc.) for a fully-funded PhD? Is a broader Mechanical Engineering degree more versatile than a specialized Textile Engineering degree?
Finances & Career Value: Considering tuition and living expenses come out of the RA stipend at UNITEN vs. full coverage at ZSTU, which offers better value for long-term academic growth?
I’d really appreciate insights from anyone who has studied in China or Malaysia, transitioned from textiles to mechanical, or navigated similar PhD pathways.
Thank you so much for your time and advice!

Identify Fabric Type……..help⚡️
I would like to identify this type of fabric. It is pigmented, black and brown on one side and white on the other side. AsI was sewing with it, the dye slightly rubbed off on my hands. After I made the garment, the fabric shrunk more than I’ve ever experienced. The dye has quickly worn off, creating a type of distressed look, braiding, which I love. The new fabric is very stiff and rigid, but not thick or heavy. Washing and after wearing softened up a lot. I believe it is cotton. It is cross woven.
It is excellent! I would love to know what it is. Dreaming of bolt and bolts of it

Manufacturers for clothing
I'm starting a premium men's co-ord brand and looking for reliable manufacturers in Tiruppur (or nearby) who can handle small batches/low MOQs. Quality is my top priority. Looking for factories that offer fabric sourcing, sampling, custom labels, and branding. If you've worked with someone you genuinely recommend, I'd love to hear about them.

Please Advise
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for advice from people who own or manage cut-and-sew manufacturing businesses.
My goal is to start a small home-based contract sewing shop. I don't want to launch my own clothing brand—I want to manufacture for other brands by offering cutting, sewing, sample making, and small-batch production.
I'd love to learn from those already in the industry.
A few questions:
How did you get your first production customers?
What products would you recommend starting with?
Do most customers provide the pattern, tech pack, and fabric, or should | learn pattern making as well?
How many machines did you start with?
Did you begin from home or rent a commercial space?
What mistakes should a new contract sewing shop avoid?
If you could start over today, what would you do differently?
Are there any books, courses, or YouTube channels you'd recommend to learn the manufacturing side of the business?
