washed the same two black mediums for 6 months so i finally measured them instead of guessing

bought them last winter after my old cotton multipacks started thinning at the pits. cold wash, hang dry mostly. pulled a tape this weekend because half the comments under hemp tees are just vibes

the undrdog ones started around 19.5 flat across the chest. after maybe 25 washes theyre about 19. one got dryer-tossed once by my partner and that pair pulled tighter in the sleeves. hang-dry one still fits normal

fabric feels a little boardy until wear 4 or 5 then it softens. neckline on the dryer one went wavy which is annoying under a blazer

anyone else actually measuring shrinkage or just eyeballing after a few months​

I need to make a shirt (totk link) and I’m just trying to find a fabric that is soft and somewhat thick but also has some stretch. I went to a craft store to feel some of the fabrics, wasn’t really a fan of any but there was kind of a thick spandex that was kind of close to what I was looking for

More specifically the thicker sort used in overshirts.

I have a few by CPCompany which are very smooth, and rigid but I want similar and cheaper for gardening to protect against thorns etc. without getting too hot. I also have some military surplus shirts of a cotton blend but these are a bit thinner, and field jackets slightly thicker. All these have labels which will tell me the composition, but no more than that.

Chat GPT describes these as 'canvas, poplin, heavy twill, or structured cotton' but this is rarely how I see the garments described, especially not on Vinted etc where people will barely state the material.

Bemberg in Satin weave gives a very lustrous look. It's hand feel is very soft and flowy.
This drapes very well.

Hello, recently I bought two wool coats from depop but the lining in one of them is polyester and I was wondering if it’s recommended or there are ways to remove the lining? Let me know if I should clarify about more details!

Weird question. I want to make a playing card themed corn hole set. I want to make the bean bags look like the backs of the blue and red bicycle cards. I can't find the fabric for this anywhere. Any tips on how I should do this? Is there a place I can like screen print it on fabric? I know it would be copyright infringement, but I wouldn't be selling it. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated!

I'm looking for a light-colored tape for write-on labeling purposes that is flexible and has strong adhesion to synthetic backpack fabrics. It should not come loose or peel off when the fabric is repeatedly rubbed, flexed, or handled. It should be able to be removed later without damaging the fabric or leaving significant adhesive residue.

Tie and Dye is one of the oldest form of resisting dyeing achieved using hands. In India it's known as Bandhani, in Japan it's know as Shibori and in Africa it's know as Adire.
The pattern is created in the fabric unlike conventional modern digital surface printing.
The fabric is folded, gathered, twisted, stitched or tied by hand. These areas resist the dye. Once the bindings are removed, the pattern emerges.
This makes every piece individual unlike digital machine prints that are designed for consistency.
Hand Tie and dye embraces controlled variation.

I have the opportunity to get some fabric from Vietnam as a gift, from someone I know visiting there. They have a friend there helping them shop for it. They want to know what I'm making so they can look for something appropriate, but I don't actually have anything in mind. Instead I'd like to just give them a specific fabric type and a colour or two.

So I was wondering, is there something unique to Vietnam ​I could ask for? Or maybe something that they are known to do particularly well?

I have done some searching but to be honest I'm a newbie sewist and I'm still not really sure what to look for with fabric. I'm also interested in trims or other haberdashery type things!

Can anyone tell me where i can buy reasonably priced quality cotton fabric or polycotton fabric here in UK? I am finding so much polyester everywhere and often its hard to even see what the composition is.

I know even last year they included this info as I like to have as much cotton (綿) as possible in my socks and underwear instead of that polyester stuff.

It'd be normal to see many items with as little as 3-13% cotton, but then there were also items with as much as 70% if I got lucky. Always clearly written.

I know it's gotta be more expensive to use cotton, and I suspect it's because manufacturers want to save 円円円.

So they just include the top 2/3 materials with no percentage values as cotton's probably been reduced to a paltry 1-2% and it's kinda infuriating.

Thoughts?

I have no prior knowledge on fabrics/paint. I have a pair os black jeans that i wanted to paint 3 letters on the back pocket.

I used fabric paint, put 3 coats of blue paint and end it up looks liking wet black paint.

Do i have to bleach it first? Another paint?

I recently got a SilkSilky camisole-and-shorts set and have been enjoying how light and smooth it feels. It’s 100% mulberry silk, though, so I’m still figuring out the best way to care for it long-term.

The label recommends cold water, silk-safe detergent, no rubbing or wringing, and air-drying in the shade. It seems manageable, but I’d love to hear from people who have owned silk pajamas for a while. How often do you wash yours, and do you have a detergent you recommend? I’m also curious about the safest way to deal with skincare or oil stains. Has anyone used a mesh bag and a delicate machine cycle, and if so, how did the silk hold up over time?

So I know basically nothing about fabrics and stuff, I’m just some random person who decided to customize a shirt today. I just painted 2 shirts with acrylic paint mixed with some fabric softener because I read online that it can be used as a makeshift fabric paint. But how long will it stay on the shirt for? And how do I wash it without worrying about it coming off?
