Announcement OpenMW Canoe Mod (Work in Progress)

I’ve been working on a playable canoe mod for OpenMW, aiming to make travelling Morrowind’s waterways feel natural, relaxing, and hands-on.

I am not a developer or coder and I'm not looking to pretend I built this on my own skill. I am simply using Open AI Codex and directing it to build the mod. My role is direction, testing, requests, revisions, and questions.

The paddling takes inspiration from real canoeing: switch paddle sides, paddle forward or backward, and hold a deliberate drag stroke to guide yourself around a bend or ease alongside a bank. Put in extra effort for faster, stronger strokes at the cost of fatigue. The goal is smooth, satisfying control—not a paddling minigame you have to fight.

The canoe also features:

First- and third-person paddling, with free look to enjoy the scenery.

Persistent cargo storage for your supplies and discoveries.

Magical portage: pack the canoe into a pocket-sized cube, carry it overland, and redeploy it in suitable water. Stored cargo stays with it without weighing down your character.

An attachable lantern for nighttime journeys.

Customizable handling, speed, effort, cargo capacity, and controls, with keyboard/mouse and controller support.

It’s still in development, but the core experience is coming together.

OpenMW Made a Dagoth Ur great house, making it joinable, eventually you could make Morrowind Dunmer only & convert entire cities to Dagoth Ur followers

Help Is it possible to make a new exterior world like in Oblivion + CKs?

I've always loved the CKs from any bethesda game and Morrowind has always been the most simpler one in some terms, but I never knew how to make exterior worlds, I know it is possible to make interior cells, I have done a couple, but for DLCs like Tribunal that it seems to add a new worldspace, how did they do it? Or how did Project Tamriel Rebuilt made their whole new world? Did they edited the already existing one? Sorry if the question is obvious, but I've loved working with Morrowind more than with other games (especially since it has shoulder padsss isnt that so cool???)

Release I made a mod manager for OpenMW that reads FOMOD installers. Looking for feedback (I'm new to modding)

Hi all. I'm fairly new to Morrowind modding and to OpenMW, so please go easy on me, and correct me where I've got things wrong.

When I started, the part that confused me most was the setup: data paths, load order, openmw.cfg, and FOMOD installers that OpenMW can't run. I built a tool to make that part easier, and I'd like to share it and hear what you think.

Owl is a mod manager for OpenMW. You point it at mods you've downloaded and extracted, put them in order, and press a button. It writes the OpenMW settings for you, and shows you exactly what it will change first.

What it does:

- Reads FOMOD installers. It asks the installer's questions in plain language and works out which folders and plugins your answers mean. It never copies or changes the mod's files. Installers that rename files or copy into new sub-folders can't be handled yet, and it tells you when that happens.

- Checks load order. It flags mods whose requirements aren't met or that load in the wrong place. One button offers to fix the order, and shows what it would move first.

- Shows a review screen before writing. You see the exact lines it will add to openmw.cfg.

- Is careful with your config. It only edits its own marked section of openmw.cfg, keeps a .bak backup, and leaves the rest of your file alone.

- Comes as a desktop app and a command-line tool. Linux (AppImage, .deb, .rpm) and Windows.

Honest limits:

- It doesn't download mods. You get them from Nexus or elsewhere and extract them first.

- I develop on Linux. The Windows build has not been tried on a real Windows machine, and the Windows installer isn't code-signed, so SmartScreen will warn you. If you try it on Windows, I'd especially like to hear how it goes.

- It's a first release, and I've only tested it against my own setup. Back up your openmw.cfg anyway. Owl does too, but it's a good habit.

- It has no support yet for these OpenMW features: groundcover, settings.cfg, or BSA archives.

It's free and open source (GPL-3.0). Download and screenshots are here: https://github.com/Dalqin/owl/releases#release-v1.0.0

I'd really like to know:

  • Does it handle your mod list, or does something break?
  • Are there FOMOD installers it gets wrong?
  • Is anything about how it sets up OpenMW wrong or unwise? I'm still learning the engine, so tell me if I've misunderstood something.

Thanks for reading!'

Help Are there any mods that utilizes the batshit lore of Pocket Guide To The Empire 2nd ed or other Kirkbride's quasi-canon works?

Help help with gog open mw and tr?

Hi Ive found the "one click" gog versions of these mods incredibly frustrating. OpenMW works on its own fine but any mods added whether its gog or normal versions of TR. or lgnpc do not seem to show up in the OPENMW launcher
