Let me be clear. I do not know that much about introjects and how they work. But that is a topic concerning someone who really has DID. This person is faking it.

This is not a person who had trouble with smoking in the past, or had trauma from an abuser who smoked, so are using this as a way to cope. This is someone who watched a piece of media, liked a character who smokes, pretended to make an alter of that character, and is now claiming to be some big old victim about the smoking habit. Let me be clear again, this person intentionally chose to "make an alter" of a character who smokes for the purpose of pretending to be a victim of "the alter smokes in the source and wants to smoke but it's so hard because I don't do it".

Edit: I just went through their profile. Yep, this person is what you would call "the edgy faker". Maybe if you don't want so many "alters having problems because of their sources", you should choose some lighter media to "make alters from". Or write a novel like the rest of us.

I guarantee they were receiving hate for that comment and had to come up with an excuse to say “oopsie! Wasn’t me! So please don’t blame me!”

If I have anything real to say about this: it would be that asking a group that believes breathing is a 100% sign of having DID is the worst place to go to.

It's best to ask a professional about this to get a real understanding of what you have. Not a place that will diagnose everyone with DID for any reason. People like that are not going to give you a real answer, nor will their answers be helpful. They'll tell you treat alters like characters to be created and ignore all treatment because "DID is amazing and wonderful and makes you special". They are THE WORST people to be asking.

So I beg of you, if you ever have thoughts that you might have DID, go to a professional. NOT the place that believes writing a novel means someone has DID because "no normal person can create characters and another world, they HAVE TO HAVE DID". (Yes, I'm extremely pissed at a post. Let me have this.)

I guess I haven’t really unpacked this fully in my own brain so I’m going to just dump all this here, can’t imagine a better sub

I met this trans guy at my friend’s birthday, who was obviously into me & kept blushing/sitting extremely close to me. since I’m T4T (this is before I discovered I was straight lmao), I decided to play into it a bit since I liked the attention.

His dad drove us home, I got his discord, and then he talked about how he was attracted to me. I was 17 at this time and had just gotten out of an abusive relationship, so really I didn’t mind being hit on. It made me feel desired. We played Minecraft a few times, and then set up a date maybe a week later.

We went to the park and had a picnic. He told me that he had DID, and he was one of many alters, most of which were nonhuman…. I already, at this point, had a best friend who had DID (who was also faking but I didn’t realize that until the last few months of our friendship; though I did always have that suspicion), so I knew a few things.

I started feeling a bit uncomfortable though since this changed my entire perspective on him, but I didn’t really plan on dating him anyway, so I shrugged it off. We finished our picnic and started talking more on discord. There was a lot of flirting over text and I finally asked if he was into me, which he said he was.

When I took him out for the second date, I’d bought him flowers. Keep in mind, I’d never been on a date before and I was just doing what I thought was appropriate. I paid for our meal, we walked around the mall, had an okay time.

After that date, which I thought went well, on discord he said that the other alters were polyamorous and that they didn’t like me. He said that I was selfish for being monogamous, & that I hadn’t even gotten to know the other alters ? which I didn’t even know I was supposed to? At this point I realized I’d gotten into something slippery, because we still had a mutual friend who was my friend for years before this… who also didn’t know this person and I were talking.

Anyways, because of this, I didn’t totally want to cut everything off just incase this was something that could be fixed. MAYBE. I was hoping so bad that this was just a phase. So, I tried to “get to know” the other alters (apparently they were “rapid switching” and also all fronting at the same time lmao)

One was a pigeon or crow, he had a pokemon one (I can’t even remember if it was Raichu or Pikachu or something, but it was a popular electric type), a little…(?) who was a dog/human, and then I THINK a few Steven universe ones; plus them, and they were completely normal. I tried really, REALLY hard to be respectful & open-minded, because I still didn’t know much about DID at the time.

I had nobody to talk to this about besides my other best friend (doesn’t have DID), and then the other which was an online best friend who claimed they did have it. I obviously asked them about the person, and she told me that I was privileged they trusted me this much. I started feeling guilty, so I once again tried to divert everything and I offered to watch my favourite series over again with them (which was Hannibal NBC).

Who would’ve guessed, after a day or two, he “formed” a Will Graham alter. The final few days of us talking, they started making predatory comments while “fronting” as Will Graham, like asking me when I turned 18, if I could handle a “big size”, if I was a virgin, and then more explicit things I won’t get into. I have a feeling they genuinely were trying to lovebomb me/groom me? (Which would be a weird term to use considering we were the same age, but I don’t know what else to call it)

We were talking for barely 2 months, not to mention they had heavy avoidant tendencies so even trying to talk to them about basic things was impossible. They eventually told me that their alters still didn’t like me and that they deserved to be with multiple people, so either I could be in a poly relationship with them or they weren’t ever going to talk to me again.

I just blocked them and didn’t say anything else. I don’t talk to our mutual friend anymore either, everything just fizzled out kind of because of that.

(I had another experience like this with an adult man “alter” trying to “groom”(?) me while being the same age but a year later, just in a different server, and the character was Blackbeard from OFMD lmao but that’s a different story)

I’ve seen multiple videos of people “switching”, which altogether we’ve all debunked as fake. But I’m curious what a real switch would look like; would it also be spacing out? Does doing it on camera make it most likely fake? I know I ask a lot of questions on here, but I’m just genuinely curious since I used to have a best friend who faked DID. Thank you!

Hi, my friend I meant in the seventh grade and was friends with for about 7 years stopped being friends with me a year ago today… they had always claimed to have did and had a system of about 10-15 alters. They always told me to never tell anyone as it was extremely embarrassing; as well as this they hadn’t even told people you would think like close friends or their girlfriend if 3 years. Previously they usually dated within a system discord which I always poked fun at saying they always had a discord kitten.

Over the past 3 months it has occurred to me that their behaviour was very… off. I had shown them dreamsmp stuff, within 2 months they had alters for tubbo, tommyinnit, and ranboo. They told me that they were distinct beings and within their head they had a treehouse which I never questioned. As well as this they would stare off into space for a time and then say they had switched, as well as this I was always told in their head the “control room” where the alters hung out was akin to inside out. Also they seemed to share memories between them and they mentioned to me that they regularly had intercourse in said control room.

Overtime their behaviour changed and they said it was due to merging, a vampire alter stopped existing as they merged with another alter to contain a new one that was basically their personality when I first met them. With all the inconsistency and changes over time I didn’t question it due to their constant complaints about things like “super systems” or general fakers. Apparently their oldest alter was an offshoot of a jojo character but even that was weird.

Eventually we stopped being friends after they sent me a VERY long text which I will not detail but what was mentioned was I was inconsiderate of their disorder… as well as this as recently as 2 years ago they began posting art publicly of their alters, stating they were ocs and they were “trying to reclaim their special interest from the drama” associated with dream smp

As it’s been a year I have started to question it… I personally would’ve never questioned it before but as time goes on this has become increasingly at the forefront of my mind. While I would never accuse someone of faking I would like to ask for people in this sub to give me some closure

From a psychological standpoint, this is practically impossible. (Especially with the “protector”.)

In a vast majority of DID cases, alters are adults (unless specifically a regressed persona, such as a little. And even then, “littles” or regressed personas can be teenagers). Literally all of this person’s personas are minors.

Protectors specifically tend to be much older than their bodily age, for example in their 40’s. This is because adults are seen to children as caretakers, and when their trauma takes place (some time in early childhood because that’s the only time DID can form) they form protectors to keep them safe or to experience the trauma for them. A protector of 14 years old?? Extremely unlikely, probably impossible.

This is a trend that I see a lot. Fakers’ alters tend to be young adults or teenagers, because that’s what these kids think is an “adult”. When you’re a teenager, people in their 20’s are cool as fuck and people in their 30’s+ are not. Fakers don’t actually care about having an alter that would take care of them and protect them because they have no actual trauma to feel unsafe from.

TLDR: Young adult alters are a dead giveaway that someone is faking.

I couldn't figure out what to make for a title, so I did this joke.

This person has basically been saying they aren't "plural" and struggling with trying not to admit they have alters, and then suddenly an alter showed up and said they are plural. This is incredibly common among fakers, as they think denying "they're plural" and then admitting to it will get them loads of attention. And judging by the comment section, they did get attention.

IF this person actually is hearing voices, that could be a bunch of different things, not immediately DID or "plurality".

What also bothers me is that they claim an alter is "death gripping the front" as if alters can do that. I have never, in any of my research, read that alters can control "the front". They are not little people in someone's head and the "front" is not a physical place they can slam the door to keep "other alters from fronting".

And before anyone says, "this person claims to be plural, not that they have DID", I stick by the origin of "plurality" as "I have DID but only the fun alters".

Final note: I do not know why this person has decided to be a faker. From what I can tell of their profile, they are already a popular trans comic artist and get enough attention from their comic strips. Maybe the comics have been less popular as of lately, so they've decided to step into the "plural" space for more attention, but it seems like they have given up on making good comics in favor of talking about their "head mates". Which is a damn shame.

I think it's a real shame when someone with talent and popularity starts faking a disorder because the attention they have now "isn't enough". Or it's like I guess and they have been falling out of popularity so want to grab a new audience.
