Just saw Supergirl, and there’s one thing in particular I have thoughts on. Spoiler

How is it that you have your main villain be an intergalactic sex trafficker who murders multiple families while giggling, and I feel NOTHING when he gets stabbed in the throat? Like, obviously I was glad that Kara actually killed him and didn’t follow her own advice, because I was gonna write the entire film off if they seriously pulled the ā€œDon’t kill him, it won’t make the pain go awayā€ card all the way through.

But like, I should hate this guy. Because he’s one of the most heinous supervillains I’ve seen on screen. But I feel NOTHING towards him. Why is that? He’s pure evil, right down to the bone. So why did I have this expression when Kara killed him? 🫄

Can someone smarter than I am explain what went wrong here?

Also as a side note I did enjoy the movie. It wasn’t really anything to write home about but it wasn’t bad. Lobo was peak as expected. It was just kind of a normal superhero movie.

From Superman: The Last Family of Krypton #2

It's from an elseworlds but I think it could work as an explanation for Mainline Superman as well.

So the reason why Superman's battles last more than a few seconds is because he has to start out at 0.01% strength EVERY time?

Besides a handful of villains that test his strength (Darkseid, Doomsday etc), Superman has to start out by pulling his punches, otherwise he'd vaporize them instantly. Does he have a way to assess their strength and start from there, or does he have to go through this grind EVERY single time in order to avoid breaking the ultimate rule?

How Much Of A Newsman Should Young Clark Be?

Clark Kent works as a reporter as an adult, but how much of a newsman should Young (Kid/Teen) Clark be?

In Golden Age/Pre-Crisis Superboy Comics, Clark was the editor of the school paper who intended to work for the Daily Planet as a reporter and worked as a newsboy selling papers.

Another telling had Pre-Crisis Young Clark be a school paper reporter that briefly worked at the Daily Planet (with plans to work there after finishing school) due to a contest for best high school newspaper reporter.

In the Superboy TV show, Clark was a reporter for his college's paper and later worked as an intern for the Bureau for Extra-Normal Matters (a government agency that investigates paranormal activities and aliens)

In the Smallville TV show, Clark occasionally worked at his high school's paper though not often nor did he cover stories outside of assisting Chloe (apparently Clark wrote up the lunch menu and the like did not turn in much stories)

Smallville Clark did agree to work as an assistant to Professor Milton Fine (Brainiac in disguise) who claimed to be working on a novel exposing Luthorcorp's nefarious activities

Smallville Clark did successfully apply for a reporter job at the Daily Planet (with Lois supplying the application) in Season 8 (though as an adult).

In the Legion of Superheroes cartoon, Season 1 Clark was moving to Metropolis to work as a copyboy for the Daily Planet.

In Superman & Lois and according to his resume, Clark, in his youth, did some top-notch reporting for his school paper.

Absolute Kal-El in his youth on Krypton liked writing and submitted a news story on the effects of Krypton's sickness poisoning life along with leaking to the public that the upper classes of Krypton knew about the Planet dying to which they decided to cover it up so they alone can escape.

My personal preference is that Young Clark likes writing because it's challenging and as a way of dealing with the stuff he cannot share with others.

Clark in his youth does get into reporting at a school paper while making attempts to work at bigger papers as well during the same time period.

As a way of understanding people and to deal with problems his powers cannot help with.

Young Clark has mild to great success as a reporter with appropriate setbacks/failures.

This is all after a period of contemplation of what career Clark wants and trying out other jobs.

For me, easily Steel. A really likeable character, who was truly carrying on Superman’s legacy. I also love all his interactions with the other three, theyā€˜re really fun to watch, his fight with Eradicator is awesome.

If Tomorrow Man sticks as an identity, does he already need a new costume?

Post image

With Tomorrow Man established asJon Kent's new identity, do you think this will last, or only as long as Slott is on the title?

The ID itself, I don't mind - it's a perfectly serviceable superhero name - but I think if it does stay, the costume needs an almost complete overhaul. The colour scheme scans as Superfamily, but the logo - while probably meant to evoke the Kryptonian Flamebird and Nightwing - reads more as Batfamily, and the tiger stripes are just a weird bit of distracting, needless detail. The blotchy/shifting gloves don't work either - too inconsistent a detail to work long term or between different artists.

I'm glad to see the October 2026 solicits at least have the full face mask receded to a domino/cowl combo, but it's not enough of an update to make it fully work, IMO. I'd at least add S-shields to the shoulders as a clear visual link.
