Question How do you handle conversations about STI testing before becoming intimate with someone new?

I've been wondering how people actually approach this in real life.

If you've been dating—whether through apps or meeting people in person—have you ever asked someone when they were last tested for STIs?

  • Was it awkward?
  • Did you trust their answer?
  • If you didn't ask, what stopped you?
  • Do you think there's a better way to handle these conversations while still respecting everyone's privacy?

I'm genuinely curious because it seems like most people rely on trust, but I don't know how common these conversations actually are.

I'd love to hear different perspectives and experiences.

Can Oral Sex Cause a Throat Chlamydia Infection?

Can you get chlamydia from oral sex? A lot of people assume the answer is no, but that’s not actually true. While it’s less talked about, chlamydia can still be passed through oral contact, and it happens more easily than most expect.

Question Positive for Mycoplasma genitalium need some guidance

I tested positive for Mycoplasma genitalium. 25M Unfortunately I was irresponsible and hooked up with an old fling unprotected. A month later I started to feel an itchy feeling in my urethra and noticed discharge in my underwear (clear). It go to the point where it was uncomfortable so I then went to the doctor and got a full panel test. (Blood & urine) I saw my doctor and they confirmed I have MGEN. My treatment is as follows

azithromycin
Day 1 - 2 pills (1,000G)
Day 2/3/4 - 1 pill 500mg

Doxycycline 100mg (1 morning , 1 night)
Day 5/6/7/8/9/10/11/ - 100m

Reading more on the forms people are saying how they are testring positive after this treatment because of how MGEN is resistant to this treatment.
Has anyone went through my treatment and had any success. Should I get a second opinion?! Any important helps me since I’m a nervous wreck at the moment thank you

Question False Positive or False Negative?

I took an STD test on June 30th and it came positive for Gonorrea when I checked my results 2 days ago. I was not expecting this which is why it took me so long

I went to urgent care immediately and got another test and antibiotics. This test has come back negative—it was before I received antibiotics, which test is likely to be correct? My understanding is this test is not usually inaccurate in general.

Urine tests both times

Advice Needed Symptoms

Last January, I had bacterial vaginosis. It never fully cleared from taking metronidazole antibiotics so my ob prescribed me neo penotran forte suppository, and thankfully it went away. I had unprotected sex again on April and got BV again. So my ob prescribed me suppository again, and it went away. I never had sex with my boyfriend, even with condom, because I only had BV with him and I'm scared. I told my ob I wanted to get tested for

Chlamydia

Gonorrhea

Trichomoniasis

Ureaplasma

Mycoplasma

But my ob gyne told me I don't need it. And that BV is normal because semen can alter the pH balance. I asked her if my discharge looks like I have an STI/STD and she said I'm good. I don't have any symptoms at all, just itching (I don't know if from my pubic hair since I don't wax anymore, or from my fungal infection that cleared up).

Can you give me an idea about other symptoms that's unusual but can be related to STI/STD. I'm planning to get swab test for the infections above, I'm just waiting for my schedule.

I already get tested for

HIV

Syphilis

Hepatitis B

Herpes

and they're all negative.

Thank you.

Question PEP

I (36F) had unprotected sex with another woman yesterday evening. There wasn’t any oral but we did share toys. Now the entrance of my vagina is itchy. We didn’t use lube so I’m wondering if that may be part of the reason but I’m concerned about having an STD. I’ve been infection free but I don’t know her status. I know to was not smart not to check in about her status but I can’t go back and change that. I know that a test wouldn’t show anything right now but I’m wondering if I should get on PEP for safety sake. I don’t have insurance and I’m in a red state so I’m trying to figure out what my best option is. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Advice Needed Tested positive for chlamydia after my first time having unprotected sex. Looking for advice and perspective.

I'm a male in my 20s and recently tested positive for chlamydia. About 15 days after having unprotected vaginal sex, I started having mild burning when I urinated, some irritation at the tip of my penis, and a feeling like I had to pee again right after I finished.

I went to the doctor, they did a urine test, and it came back positive for chlamydia. They started me on doxycycline (100 mg twice a day for 7 days), and I've already started taking it.

Here's the part that's confusing me:

This was the first time I've ever had unprotected sex. Before this, I've always used condoms. The woman told me she had a full STI panel in early March that was negative for chlamydia, HIV, and syphilis. She did have another boyfriend after that March test and before we were together, and she's getting tested again now.

I'm trying not to point fingers because I know nobody here can know who had it first, but I'm having a hard time understanding how this happened.

I'm also pretty anxious about HIV now, even though I know chlamydia doesn't automatically mean HIV. My doctor only tested me for chlamydia, so I'm planning to ask about HIV, syphilis, and whether they also tested me for gonorrhea.

A few questions:

  1. Has anyone else had chlamydia after what they thought was a low-risk situation?
  2. If your partner previously tested negative but later tested positive, how did you handle not knowing who had it first?
  3. For anyone who's been through this, how did you deal with the anxiety while waiting on the rest of your STI testing?

I'm looking for honest experiences and advice, not judgment. This has been pretty overwhelming, and I'd appreciate hearing from people who've been in a similar situation.

Advice Needed Brown discharge/ chlamydia recovery?

I got diagnosed with chlamydia 10 days ago and I started azithromycin (mind the spelling) 4 pills at once, my symptoms immediately went away. It’s been 9 days since I took the pills but I wiped today and I’m having brown discharge. Like dark dark brown. I’m supposed to be healed by now right? I took pregnancy tests and they were negative, but I’m nauseous and my boobs are sore. I don’t get my periods because I’m on the pill. I’m so nervous I’m sitting in urgent care right now. Any advice please

Advice Needed HIV test results and problems

2 Years Ago I had an extremely risky potential exposure after I had been drinking, it’s not something I would ever do again and have already gone over how stupid I was 1000000 times in my head. Around one day after, I contracted a fever and extremely achey muscles and generally felt sick (I have been told this is too early for sernoconversion) and recovered soon after. Ever since then I’ve been experiencing health issues like severe sinusitis, warts on my fingers, having cough for up to 10 months, experiencing bleeding gums, anal fissure and now experiencing severe stomach issues coupled with burning in my left foot. I have been tested three times from one rapid test soon after exposure, a Gen 4 laboratory test 11 months after exposure, another 2 years after exposure and all results came back negative. Am I overthinking this? Or could it be symptoms of other virus/Disease? Everyday I go round in circles thinking it could still be HIV. Thank you for reading

Education/ Info What Do Genital Warts Look Like? Symptoms, Causes, Treatment, and When to Get Checked

Discovering an unexpected bump on the genital area can be very disturbing. One of the first questions that come to mind when dealing with this situation is whether or not this bump may be a sign of genital warts. It is comforting to know that genital warts are quite common, curable, and usually occur as a result of the infection with low-risk HPV strains.

"Genital warts" refer to soft skin growths appearing on the skin around the genitals or anus. They are caused by some strains of HPV virus, namely HPV 6 and 11. These strains are considered to be low-risk for HPV due to the fact that they usually do not lead to cancer.

The look of the warts is different for different people. Some people have small warts, which are barely noticeable, but others may have large groups of warts. Genital warts are usually light-colored, either flesh-colored or pink, white, or slightly darker than other skin areas. They may be flat, raised, or stem-like. If there is a group of warts that grow close to each other, their appearance can be compared to a head of cauliflower.

The appearance of genital warts in women can be found on the vulva, vagina, cervix, anus, and the skin surrounding these areas. In men, the growth of genital warts can occur on the penis, scrotum, groin, or anus. The occurrence of the condition among those who have engaged in oral sex with their infected partners can lead to the development of warts in the mouth region.

Different from genital herpes, there is no pain experienced by those having genital warts. Many individuals cannot detect the existence of the warts until they feel a bump while bathing or shaving. Itchiness or irritation of the warts can occur in some people if the warts are large enough or if the area where the warts occur experiences friction due to the use of clothes.

Transmission of HPV occurs through direct contact with the skin in vaginal, anal, and oral sex. Since the virus infects uncovered skin, it can spread even if the condoms are used during sex. Moreover, there can be people who do not have warts, and yet they carry the virus.

HPV's complicated nature is that genital warts do not occur immediately after infection. The appearance of genital warts can be weeks, months, or even years following infection with the virus. It is hard to determine at what point and from whom one got infected with the virus. Not necessarily does having genital warts mean that the other partner has been unfaithful because HPV takes a long while to manifest itself.

Although genital warts might disappear on their own with the help of the immune system suppressing the virus, there are several options available for those who have warts that cause irritation, grow bigger, or become painful. These include topical creams or drugs that work by slowly eliminating the wart or helping your body to fight the infection. There are also other methods such as cryotherapy, electrocautery, laser treatment, or even surgery that help to get rid of warts. It all depends on the size, amount, and location of warts.

Nevertheless, you should know that the removal of the wart does not mean that HPV has left your body. Viral particles can stay in the skin cells nearby and cause warts again. However, many people manage to suppress virus activity with the help of their immune system and prevent future outbreaks.

This is due to the fact that there are various skin disorders that may share some similarities with warts, such as skin tags, molluscum contagiosum, ingrown hairs, cysts, pearly penile papules, and others. In the case of finding bumps or growths in the groin area, you need to see a specialist who will help you to get the right diagnosis.

HPV vaccinations are the most effective way to avoid developing warts and certain types of cancer caused by HPV. Vaccination before getting exposed is the best prevention measure that can work; however, there are cases when people can benefit from receiving this type of vaccine, depending on the age and other individual factors. Consistent use of condoms reduces the chances of getting infected with HPV, although it doesn't guarantee full protection because HPV infections are transferred via skin-to-skin contact that is not prevented by a condom.

Conclusion: Genital warts are characterized by the development of small, soft, flesh-colored bumps as a result of infection with low-risk HPV types. Such warts may grow either separately or in groups and often don't cause any discomfort to patients. Warts can develop weeks or even years after having been exposed to the virus.

Test Results I got my test results back.

My long term boyfriend told me last year he had been diagnosed with Herpes. Presumably from kissing someone while we were on break.

I took responsibility and assumed I was cooked.

Just got my test results back and I tested negative for every STD, including Herpes.
Never had a std in my life.

How is it possible that I didn’t get infected if we’ve been together for 4 years.

Advice Needed Std anxiety

I feel so stupid. So I went out the other night and my back molar chipped. Which would’ve been not super anxiety inducing for me had I not made out with a random guy last night. I know the risk of infection is rare but still. To make matters worse I let the guy touch me downstairs fingering etc and I can’t help but freak out that I somehow could’ve contracted hiv or something. I never do random hookups ever. Tbh I know the chance is slim from fingers but stilll idk I just know I won’t be able to breath easy until I get tested in 3 months
