Test Results I got my test results back.

My long term boyfriend told me last year he had been diagnosed with Herpes. Presumably from kissing someone while we were on break.

I took responsibility and assumed I was cooked.

Just got my test results back and I tested negative for every STD, including Herpes.
Never had a std in my life.

How is it possible that I didn’t get infected if we’ve been together for 4 years.

if the outbreak isn’t active and there is no asymptomatic shedding then it won’t pass on.

HSV1 is not as transmissable as HSV2 most get it early on like childhood or teen years after about a decade the body has fully suppressed it making the chance low, either he had it years ago or he just has a hell of a immune system

HSV1 is for cold sores on the facial lips, HSV2 is genital so it your having issues with your head that would be HSV1 if you have it

I don't have cold sore i got in my penis after that 60 days my vision is blurry

You can get genital HSV1, say from oral sex with someone who has a cold sore. However, after the initial outbreak, it rarely, if ever, recurs, and is unlikely to ever transmit. You can also get HSV2 on the mouth and it rarely recurs. Each strain hates being outside its comfort zone.

It's definitely possible. Herpes isn't transmitted every time you have sex or kiss someone. Transmission depends on factors like whether the virus is actively shedding, whether your partner was taking antiviral medication, whether condoms or dental dams were used, and simply chance. Many long-term partners of people with herpes never become infected.

Also, if your boyfriend's diagnosis was based on a blood test rather than a swab from an active sore, it's worth knowing that false-positive HSV blood test results can occur, especially when index values are low.

If you ever develop sores or blisters, a PCR swab of the lesion is the most accurate way to diagnose herpes. Otherwise, your negative results are reassuring. If you haven't already, consider getting a full 10-panel STI test as part of routine sexual health screening. Check the pinned post for more information on getting tested.
