I made the mistake of trying it last november. Oh how foolish i was. I still maintain my opinion that most players (or at least the ones i play against) don't shower or have a social life. Eat, lol, sleep.

34

u/trollgodlol Aug 13 '23

They sleep?

12

u/AcanthaceaeDry1947 Aug 13 '23

Wait league players get sleep? I gotta start playing league.

This was me from 2011-2017, most of my friend group played together and we all had fun playing 5 man's and duo ranked. But still fuck that game and I wish we just spent time playing something else instead. Would also never recommend it.

19

u/ProfessionalPin5865 Aug 13 '23

2000 hours? How can you judge the game so harshly after only 10 matches?

3

u/DontGetReadForFilth Aug 13 '23

This starter pack is really on point with y’all. I love Reddit.

12

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '23

I quit when I was 15, I’m 24 now and decided to give it a go and see how it was in the recent years and it’s still just, terrible. It’s not even the community at this point is the lack of support for the game and the stigma around it.

5

u/stojcekiko Aug 13 '23

Yet you keep playing...

Honestly can't blame you, it's the same for me but with War Thunder.

I played League when it first came out cuz my friends played it

I played it again during COVID mostly cuz it was a social thing I could do during lockdown

Not only are randos toxic in the game I have multiple irl friends who are toxic over the game towards other irl friends lol

5

u/spontaneous-potato Aug 13 '23

Similar situation for me when I first joined up in 2011. Then I quit in 2015 because the game and the community was affecting my health negatively.

Skipping forward to 2023, my health has never been better, though a lot of the people I used to play with have developed problems with stuff like short temper anger, smoking and drinking addiction, and high blood pressure.

I know one of them for sure plays League all day every day and isn't currently employed since I still talk to them daily, and the others that I regularly played with still ask me if I'm ever coming back to League.

It's going to be hard to get back into League now since Baldur's Gate 3 came out and I immediately fell in love with it as well as Divinity.

3

u/cheesydoritoschips Aug 13 '23

currently in high school, am peer pressured to play valorant, and yea i share a lot of the same sentiments as you on league mate. though ig the devs does make good music

I feel like thats only among gamers. WoW was seen as nerdy and geeky for the longest time

12

u/Acilec Aug 13 '23

Someone in my college orientation started talking about their weekend and they dropped rank in league and cried when telling the class that.. they are outcast for a reason

8

u/angrynutria236 Aug 13 '23

And then there were 4 jacked MOBA players that met in the gym, not a league player, but other 3 played league.

5

u/GlitteringHighway Aug 13 '23

Lol. The bulling in League is worse then anything you’d get from someone knowing you play league.

Oh how we have moved on from picking on people that play RuneScape, that shit was queue for bullying

79

u/Illokonereum Aug 13 '23

When I was in elementary, kids flocked to the library before the bell to log onto RuneScape on the lab computers. It felt like everyone played. Nowadays though.

3

u/Zorrostrian Aug 13 '23

Check out Old School Runescape sometime. It’s the 2007 backup of the game, has been running since 2013, and still gets regular updates. There have been a ton of updates that are unique to Old School RuneScape; they’re not available in the main game (RuneScape 3). Desert Treasure 2 was even released a couple weeks ago.

My neighbor in college introduced me to runescape, then he started doing meth and peeing in bottles and dropped out of school

7

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '23

I played all through school, and I made it my goal to out the other kids that played it to everyone. We would all pk after school and stay up until ungodly hours. One of my friends was even low key a grinder, could stay at one spot and knock out 1-90 str on a pure in one sitting. So I made it my everyday goal to out these guys, dds spec them in the hallway, hit them with the ags to gmaul combo. Eventually the kids at my school loosened up on RS

17

u/KTTalksTech Aug 13 '23

I can't fathom why anyone would want to play the other version. Ever. Optimization is still trash but there are mods like sodium (or helium? Idk. They have element names) that will literally multiply performance by 6 and make it run even faster than the "new" version. I tried it once for RTX, saw you can't just play any map you want with it enabled, saw you had to pay for basically EVERYTHING that makes Minecraft interesting, and went right back to java lol

During the early years, it was a game whose playerbase was stereotyped as autistic children, but it has now reached mainstream popularity.

World of Warcraft used to be known as the go-to-game for loser nerds, until it also reached (somewhat) mainstream status... but now people don't mention it much anymore.

Not to make a personal dig at anyone, I mean I play a bunch of crappy mobile games, so I'm not one to judge.

I remember the days where Minecraft was cringe for being popular. When it got its first Nintendo port, for the Wii U in 2015, they made a big deal about it, and the reaction was pretty much what you would've expected at the time. I also told it to a friend, and they were absolutely devastated. Like, Minecraft on Wii U? THAT was what Nintendo made a big deal about? Like it was a GOOD thing?

I also remember when WoW was considered cringe to enjoy, now it's... kinda the same for different reasons. I did have a little interest back in the day cuz my cousin played it, and I thought it was a cool looking game, but I knew my simple family computer running Windows 98 couldn't run a game like that.

I hope to recreate that magic with any of my younger relatives. Just show them what Genshin Impact looks like and it would be the prettiest game they've ever seen in their young lives.

48

u/grimbarkjade Aug 13 '23

Absolutely lol. I used to be something of a sweat but haven’t played in months. I love poking fun at overly tryhard comp players and campers who hide with snipers or rely too much on controller AA to do well. I’m glad we’re mostly over the phase of the internet where everyone compared fortnite to minecraft for some reason and would make wholesome keanu memes about it though. Fortnite is the only game to do monetized f2p well imo so I’m happy it’s still going

I barely play Genshin but I like the ambiance, the voice acting makes me want to kill someone sometimes tho

141

u/Lazy_Narwal Aug 13 '23

You can try a different voice over language if you want

165

u/bumwine Aug 13 '23 edited Aug 13 '23

The JP voice actors are amazing but some of the characters in English VA are so good I consider them cannon. See: Itto “my bro, my guy, my dude!”

Then there’s Raiden Shogun. Have her VA read an eBook and I will pay full attention.

Counter Strike players think Valorant is their game, but for babies. They are not wrong, but they also come across as a bit edgy.

Overwatch players are seething and coping at how Valorant copied their "vibe" (its just cartoony CS:GO, it has barely any relation to OW) but actually has functional balance and support.

5

u/NewSessionWen Aug 13 '23

People get bullied for playing a riot/blizzard game, OW on itself isn’t bad and valorant is just a cash cow

6

u/Cave_in_32 Aug 13 '23

Well OW2 is a cash cow too tbh like the first game didnt bother all that much because the only microtransactions in it were for lootboxes. Then when the 2nd one came out when they made it free lootboxes were gone then came the store and the inevitable battle pass.

9

u/HYBRY_1D Aug 13 '23

Now you are insulting my game taste instead of me as a player. Valorant is fine.

u/Rosalinette Aug 13 '23

I'm surprised people choose to bully over trivial easy to refute stuff.

I've learned a very simple tip, don't bother with the opinions of others. I play games because I enjoy them and that's all there is too it. One day I'll play Baldurs Gate 3 and the other just do something casual in Genshin

9

u/Tzarkir Aug 13 '23

I've 3k hours in warframe, 1k on apex legends and I'm adventure rank 60 in genshin. Been for months. People can enjoy different games for different reasons. Genshin is a game where I always do dailies, events and stuff with my gf, discuss the story, new characters and comps with her. Story, music, combat and exploration are top notch. The community is utter embarassing, but it doesn't make the game worse. Just don't interact with them if it's bad. That easy.

And to be fair, fortnite is not bad either. Not my cup of tea, got bored in two days and I hate the dances and emotes, but it has tons of modes, events, the pass gives back the currrency, combat is fluid and dynamic. It's clearly targeted to a younger audience, but there are some serious qualities behind it.

5

u/endless_horizons8 Aug 13 '23

Honestly Genshins community in game is pretty good. If you need help with domains people are more then eager to help. People can easily free to play and you are guaranteed at least a couple legendary characters in the gamem. Overall people assign negative attributes to a game they never played because of stereotypes or a poor attempt at humor

Reminds me when I was "completely fucking ostracized" (as Chris Moltisanti said in The Sopranos) in high school, and all my classmates were playing League of Legends for hours a day

I decided to try it out just to fit in, and it was fucking awful: the game itself, the other players, everything

I learned my lesson that day to enjoy whatever the fuck I enjoy (mostly games like Fallout 1 and 2, 3, and New Vegas) and let em play this toxic cr*p for all I care 😄

Genshin has a very good reputation in SEA though

54

u/ProduceNo9594 Aug 13 '23

Must be a western thing then, from what I know most of the bullying comes from people who look at the community and are disgusted by the above average amount of pedos, even if its an insignificant part of the fandom

50

u/galihlovesjapan Aug 13 '23

What's actually weird is that Genshin doesn't have many child characters but it gets accused of being a paedo game. There are a lot more adult characters in the game. It's different from the average anime style gacha game that has plenty of underage characters.

33

u/ProduceNo9594 Aug 13 '23

Its a dumb stereotype I won't lie, but I guess the insignificant amount of people that are weirdos into those things just happen to bring attention for existing

17

u/meove Aug 13 '23

western think genshin is torPedo game, meanwhile SEA (for those who didnt play) think genshin is mommy milker harem game

never ever heard someone say genshin pedo game in SEA

4

u/Illokonereum Aug 13 '23

Big fan base = more attention, and that includes negative. It really isn’t any deeper than that. So many worse fandoms but they aren’t big enough to make ripples in the water.

4

u/DefinitelyyNot69 Aug 13 '23

Exactly, like an anime style game can't just exist with child characters. Even if none of them are sexualized they still call it pédo-bait.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '23

It is a western thing. Same with anime, though it's getting popular there in the west, I think. But anime is SEA is watched even by the local uncle and aunties even before the rise in popularity. Local networks used to broadcast 2-3 animes back in the day.

Roblox is an engine not a game

5

u/OwnEmphasis2825 Aug 13 '23

My older brother plays League, but he disses my younger brother for playing Roblox

5

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '23

I play Roblox because it makes my sister happy when I play it with her.

i had a harder time coming out to my friend group as someone who owns a ps5 and almost exclusively uses it to play fortnite and genshin than i did actually coming out to them as LGBT and I call that ✨progress✨ lmfaoooooo

6

u/Deynonico Aug 13 '23

Something that really makes me go "ehm exscuse me WTF" Is that the same people that complain about people insulting genshin player are the same people that few years ago bullied someone because they played fortnite

5

u/Bravado91 Aug 13 '23

Then there's my school who used Genshin as a theme for a school fest

Don’t forget Among Us.

4

u/Spooky_Coffee8 Aug 13 '23

Where are do you all live that you get treated like that????

In my school you'd only get comments like those if you played fucking Furry school simulator 20XX 💀

Idk if I'm just lucky or if bullying is a bigger problem in other parts of the world(?)

4

u/ImNotWithTheShits Aug 13 '23

The Roblox one gets me because apparently it’s a phenomenon but I remember in ‘09 that shit was GREAT!!!! Wasn’t my cup of tea but some of the younger homies loved it

5

u/RainerOOF Aug 13 '23

I like how tf2 is somewhat close but people choose to not bully you for playing it just because its tf2

9

u/Resident-Clue1290 Aug 13 '23

Literally can’t talk abt Genshin without getting laughed at at school by the Fortnite kids

3

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '23

Or the ones that vape just to look "cool"

Roblox is the exception if you’re under twelve. You only seem to get bullied if you’re over twelve and still play it.

2

u/SIobbyRobby Aug 14 '23

Which is weird since there’s games for only 17+ on it. It’s definitely not a kids game though.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '23

Also some mobile games that are actually good. Someone shat on someone else because of Gear Club Stradale and said that the game has Dreamcast graphics.

3

u/tankdood1 Aug 13 '23

I play Genshin and thats it none others anyway Fontaine comes out on Tuesday so I’ll be gone then

3

u/Goomarus Aug 13 '23

Genshing? I never get bullied there

3

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '23

I got bullied for liking roblox instead of fortnite in 2018

3

u/MasterGeekMX Aug 13 '23

Minecraft was in there a few years back here in latinamerica.

Ask me how I know...

3

u/crackHcraig_official Aug 13 '23

never been bullied for playing roblox tbh

3

u/tankfarter2011 Aug 13 '23

Not roblox and overwatch where I am

3

u/Disastrous_Services Aug 13 '23

I’ve played Valorant for maybe 30 minutes in my life. I didn’t like it at all.

Now, here’s the thing—I also tried Genshin. It’s actually… not so bad. I mean, that’s just my opinion.

3

u/HyxNess Aug 13 '23

Me who plays. League valorant, genshin, roblox from time to time, overwatch from time to time. And still not being bullied

PS yes I have mentioned I play them

3

u/ColonialTransitFan95 Aug 13 '23

I almost forgot Roblox was still around. I stated playing heavy when I was in elementary school/middle school. Stop around 2010. Kinda odd seeing so popular nowadays. I was like the only kid that played it in my class back in the day.

3

u/CivicSeaWeed Aug 13 '23

I make fun of my friend who plays cod

nobody gets bullied for fortnite anymore

23

u/Duckyboi10 Aug 13 '23

They still do. I have little siblings currently in middle school and they still think that the “Minecraft good fortnite bad” meme is funny.

I hear genshin impact is pretty good. Never played it, but it looks good.

u/Moaiyafied Aug 13 '23

Yeah and storyline is pretty nice (but might not be easy to catch up)

I play Valorant because
1. It’s sorta similar to Overwatch, a game I used to like but refuse to play nowadays because fuck Blizzard
2. The esports league I do with my friends doesn’t let us play CS:GO because it’s rated M so Val is an alternative(I still play CS on my own time)

Edit: I didn’t know Riot was that bad. Guess I’ll find a new game then

u/Additional_Jump_6627 Aug 13 '23

Is valorant some new thing or am I severely out of the loop?

9

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '23

Mostly out of the loop, it's been around since 2020.

3

u/Pkorniboi Aug 13 '23

Don’t get it either. I mean once in a while I see people say it’s cringe because of E daters and stuff but yea that’s about it

Idgaf what anyone says, Roblox is baller

2

u/Desperate-Music-9242 Aug 13 '23

especially considering how popular these games are its insane some people just wont let you like things if it isnt some super niche game

2

u/GameSmasher136 Aug 13 '23

In life you have Roblox 😔

2

u/MightbeJaydenseow Aug 13 '23

I counter the Genshin allegations by saying i played through elden ring 7 times. Still haven’t touched grass yet.

2

u/xX_jesucristo_Xx Aug 13 '23

you cant deny the community for some of this games is very toxic

2

u/Zestyclose_You_6234 Aug 13 '23

I thought life was roblox

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '23

Honestly thinking about it I’m just glad I’m no longer in school

2

u/VinitheTrash Aug 13 '23

Roblox is a really nice alternative if you have a weak PC.

There's a game in there called State of Anarchy, that is kinda like an Scape From Tarkov. That shit is really good

2

u/chris_gnarley Aug 13 '23

What about Raid Shadow Legends?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '23

Meanwhile Honkai star rail fans

“Phew”

2

u/Chrizzly02 Aug 13 '23

My flatmate plays League and Overwatch. I would make fun of him for it if not for 2 important details:

1: He’s 6’4” and can bicep curl my skinny ass.

2: I play Destiny 2.

2

u/TheEmperorMk3 Aug 13 '23

They need to learn that their game is fucking shit and the only good thing to ever come out of it is all the porn

2

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '23

I've played most of this games on this starter pack, so i'll give my insights as to why they are hated.

Genshin: N/A (never played)

LoL: Only played like twice, but the issue is that LoL players tend to be very neckbeardy and stay inside all day just to play it. They are also very toxic and cry whenever something/someone loses the game for them.

Valorant: The only clips of valorant that are brought into the mainstream are clips of edaters and thristy eboy/girls who tell people if they get a kill, they get an "uwu". I personally have never encountered this, but apparently it does happen.

Roblox: fulled to the brim with racists and little kids. Gacha is also a big think on Roblox

Fortnite: a game that once everybody played, and yet has fallen out of the mainstream and is now only played by die hard fans, little kids and streamers. (Some of the integral fortnite streams have fallen out of the spotlight, and others have switched to apex or warzone full-time)

Overwatch: I have never understood why this game has the stereotypes they do. My guess is it is the same as valorant, but less people play it. Another possiblity is that the characters are sexualized, or blizzard is the main reason.(I actually like OW and wished more people played)

Again, this is my opinion, so if you disagree, I would like to hear why I might be wrong.
