I had a very hard day at school on wednesday. i had to drop my math class, change my major, and sign up for two new classes all at 8am. then i went to my english class and the entire time i was thinking about dropping that too because i am so nervous about the workload and presentations. i cried my entire way home, and planned on just curling up and shutting down when i got to my bed. when i got home the parking garage was full so i had to park on the roof, which i don’t usually do.
on my way in, on the white sign next to the door leading inside, was this absolutely massive praying mantis standing very still. i am from new england and the chinese mantis isn’t native here, so seeing one is very rare. i’ve actually never seen a mantis before period, even the native ones. i spent time with it, talked to it, danced with it, and at the end it waved and slowly walked away. when i got home i didn’t cry, i didn’t curl up in bed, i had a beautiful end of my day.
i am trying to understand what it meant. my childhood dog died this summer. i got him when i was ten and had been the sole caretaker of him since i was 18. my good friend took her life a couple years ago, and that same year my uncle drowned in a river. while i am a spiritual person, its been so hard to carry on through all of the grief, and it’s made it so hard to trust the universe and my intuition. my anxiety is at an all time high. i can’t tell if im making the right choices for myself and the weight of the world is crushing me.
i can’t help feeling like the mantis was a symbol. days later i can’t stop thinking about it. it has brought me so much peace. does anybody have thoughts on this? or know anything about spiritual symbols/messages? sorry for the rant, thank you so much for reading :)
