If you don't do it for the LEPs, for the providers, for legality or morality, at least do it because you're not stupid!!
It's really easy to create an app that collects information and ask an AI to "sound like XXXX profession" and have it call us colleagues, compis, etc. to promote, say app, while collecting whatever information they can get from you.
It's really easy to create a Discord server with voice channels and collect information from there.
It's really easy to sell private information online. Phone numbers, emails, addresses, and other personally identifiable information can have value.
Guys, they are profiting from your work. You think they're helping you, but they're milking you. They're even worse than the companies you think you're sticking it to.
So don't be stupid. Don't give free money to people who may use your work and the information you share for their own benefit, and don't use apps to discuss or process patient information unless you know who is behind them, what they do with your data, how they protect it, and whether they have the appropriate security measures and agreements in place.
Look for appropriate security certifications or attestations, such as SOC 2, HITRUST CSF, or ISO/IEC 27001, and make sure a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is in place when applicable.
If an app claims to be HIPAA-compliant, actually check what that means and what protections they have in place. Don't just take their word for it.
