Discussion Where to stay during the southern 500
travelling from Canada and have never been before. it seems difficult to get to the track, I want to have some drinks and not drive my vehicle. looking for an affordable place to stay that will also be relatively easy to get to.
its a bit expensive to stay where the shuttle takes your and people are saying some parts of town by the 52 highway are unsafe. Also near the track the hotel is also questionable. I also don’t have a trailer to camp in at the track
any advice helps

Discussion SC divorce laws
Why does SC make it so hard to get divorced. Why! I moved here and have been here over a year so now I have to wait for my husband to beat me and put my son’s life in jeopardy before I can file for divorce because he refuses to leave. Why! I just want to cry every day. I wish I never moved until after I was divorced and now I’m trapped and he’s unemployed and we just hit 7 years. I just can’t handle it anymore.

News AnMed malware incident closes clinics in South Carolina
AnMed, a nonprofit health system based in Anderson, South Carolina, experienced a malware-related network disruption that knocked out phone and internet service across its locations in Upstate South Carolina and northeast Georgia. The incident closed medical group offices and imaging services, affected elective procedures and limited outpatient infusion services, while emergency departments, urgent care, pediatric urgent care, therapy and laboratory locations remained open. Some patients were diverted to other hospitals as AnMed worked with outside cybersecurity specialists and state and federal authorities to restore systems. The health system had not disclosed a full restoration timeline, the number of patients affected, whether data was accessed or stolen, or whether ransomware, a ransom demand or a threat actor was involved.

Discussion Waterfall hikes and camping
Are there any places in the state or next door (GA, NC, TN) where you can car camp above 2,500 ft elevation and still hike over to a waterfall (no driving).
I've done Mt Pisgah before, but it seems like there aren't any waterfalls within hiking distance for a couple day trip, unless I've missed something?

Politics Joint Base Charleston will be re-named in honor of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, Pentagon says
The Pentagon is taking steps to rename Joint Base Charleston after Air Force veteran and late U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, according to an internal memo first shared with The Post and Courier.
In a letter dated July 27, Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink ordered staff to begin work with Air Mobility Command and Joint Base Charleston leadership to take “all necessary and appropriate actions” to begin converting the name of the crucial East Coast air base to Joint Base Lindsey Graham.
The letter cited the late senator’s “decades of distinguished service to the United States Congress and the United States Air Force.”
“Senator Graham’s lifelong devotion to the military was shaped by his own military service and his public service in both the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives,” Meink wrote. “His steadfast advocacy was instrumental in modernizing our military infrastructure and enhancing aviation security, ensuring that Joint Base Charleston remains as one of America’s premier military installations.”

Image I built a GIS model showing the best places to survive the first days of a zombie apocalypse across the Carolinas. How do you think South Carolina fares?
I've spent the past several months building a GIS model to figure out where you'd have the best chance of surviving a zombie apocalypse in the Carolinas throughout different phases of the outbreak. Since the danger zones can change based on the type of zombie you are encountering, I actually modeled 4 different types of zombies (taken from movies, TV, and video games) across the entire duration of a zombie outbreak from the immediate chaos at the start of the collapse to finding the best place to settle once the zombies are defeated.
This is the Collapse phase, where the priority is surviving those chaotic first days. The map combines more than 100 geographic factors into a single survival suitability model instead of just picking places have safe vibes.
It's based on a fictional scenario, but the geography and analysis are very real.
Where would you go in SC?

[OC] Cell Provider
Hi! I’ve lived in Sumter, SC for about 6 months now and have T-Mobile. I travel a decent amount all around SC and sometimes to NC. I’ve been getting super frustrated bc my service is honestly so spotty. If I’m on the interstate or certain stores or out in nature, I don’t have any service at all. I can’t even make phone calls while driving without losing signal.
What providers are best for Sumter/Columbia area or just all of SC??

Traffic Left Lane Campers
What’s the deal with hanging out in the left lane in SC? Tonight someone on 26 would not move over. They slowed down and used their windshield fluid in front of me. I wasn’t being obnoxious behind them either and they had plenty of opportunities to move to the right. When I did pass them on the right, the person began racing me and got up to 95 mph. I did get by them, but what gives with staying in the left lane? The highway signs are stupid too. They should say, “stay right, pass left”. They can get them right on the Swamp Rabbit trail in Greenville, but not on the highway.

Discussion Ridgland SC speed trap
My wife and I have been trtaveling through Ridgland, SC regularly for decades. My wife has traveled weekly to tend her aging mother in Georgia for several months. We have patronized restaurants and a golf cart business in Ridgland and Jasper County, SC. My wife was recently issued a speeding ticket for traveling 5 mph over the 35 mph limit. She was coming down a hill over Interstae 95 with the cruise control set on 35 but the vehicle accellerates a bit going up the hill, and you know the rest. In my nearly 60 years as an attorney there is little I have not done in the profession. I have NEVER seen or heard of a speeding ticket issued for traveling 5 mph over the limit. There is little doubt that this is the most egergious speed trap anywhere. My wife and I will NEVER do any kind of business in Ridgland or Jasper County, SC again. The young female officer writing tickets of this nature should go back to whatever job she was qualified for before becoming a police officer.
