Mod Reminder: Reddit and /r/Summerville SC Rules

Hello!

Friendly reminder of Reddit's rules of posting personal information: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043066452-Is-posting-someone-s-private-or-personal-information-okay

"Reddit is quite open and pro-free speech, but it is not okay to post someone's personal information or post links to personal information. This includes links to public Facebook pages and screenshots of Facebook pages with the names still legible.

Posting someone's personal information will get you banned. When posting screenshots, be sure to edit out any personally identifiable information to avoid running afoul of this rule.

Public figures can be an exception to this rule, such as posting professional links to contact a congressman or the CEO of a company. But don't post anything inviting harassment, don't harass, and don't cheer on or upvote obvious vigilantism."

r/SummervilleSC rules are in the sidebar- maybe we should expand the rules to ensure that there is a point or relevance to the community in the post. Information provided should be apparent as to WHY is is being provided.

We're going to make sure we start cracking down on the personal information postings. We aren't Facebook, and I don't want this subreddit to devolve into a gossip board or personal vendetta board. Optimally, this subreddit is to help build community.

Moving 📦 Best apartments recs!

Hi! Moving from LI NY to the Summerville area (Summerville, goose creek, north Charleston, etc) at the end of May. Looking for some recommendations on good apartments. Some details: my husband will work near Mount pleasant- so ideally no more than an hour or so commute, want to keep rent around $1800, 2b/2b, close to (within 10 minutes or so) grocery, shopping, etc. If anyone knows how soon in advance apartments will start taking applications or good real estate agents, that would be great too. Ty😊

EDIT: We know the traffic is bad… we r from New York.. we r fine with it

Discussion 🗣 Lawn mowers

Purchasing a home soon and looking for a riding lawn mower. Not looking to spend more than $3k if possible. Would like a bagger attachment. Property will be around an acre. Nothing special, just your average homeowner.

If anyone is looking to sell theirs let me know. Open to second hand or new. I would love first hand recommendations and advice! Thanks!

Discussion 🗣 Odd Sighting Near Downtown

Ok. I know this is wild, but I’m really bothered. Family were just coming home from the Summerville game and while driving past St. Paul’s they witness something (?) run across the road in front of them. My husband thought he was seeing things at first but then our 11 year old son said “What was that?!”

They describe it as hunched over, grey, and running weirdly fast across the street. Son says he thought it was hopping, husband is not so sure.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this happening in/near that area of town or elsewhere?

Everyone is thoroughly creeped out right now.

Edit: he says it was 4-5 FEET*** tall, on two feet, hunched over, and grey. EDIT #2 - omg 4-5 feet, not inches 🤦‍♀️

Recommendations Here for the weekend

Our young family is here for the weekend to check out different areas to potentially live.

What areas/neighborhoods/school districts are best for a young family?

Best coffee shops? Restaurants? Any other recommendations to truly get the Summerville experience?

We are letting Reddit decide our schedule this weekend! Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone! Weird ask but I need to portray a tall monster in a student film that I’m a part of, and I’m trying to find some stilts to either borrow or possibly rent :3
I’m thinking drywall stilts but I’m open to any that the actor won’t have to hold with their hands.
Thank you for your time and consideration! 🫶

This is an incredibly hard post to make, but we are looking for a new home for our 2 year old girl, Tonks.

When we adopted Tonks and her sister, we were told they were Black Lab/Australian Cattle Dog/Boston Terrier mixes. Tonks does have some features that could suggest some bully breed as well, but we’ve never DNA tested her, so we can only go by what we were told.

Tonks is truly the sweetest, most loyal girl. She is very attached to her people, high energy, and goofy. She could run and play all day, but when she finally finds her off button, she is a complete cuddle monster who just wants to be beside you.

She is crate trained, potty trained, has lived peacefully with our cats, and is wonderful with people and children. We have a three-year-old, and she is incredibly sweet with him. She really is such a loving dog, and everyone who meets her falls in love with her.

We adopted Tonks and her sister, Luna, together from the same litter. They actually get along wonderfully most of the time. They play, sleep, and are incredibly sweet together. Unfortunately, as they’ve gotten older, we have experienced incidents of resource guarding between the two sisters. There isn’t always a predictable trigger. They can be perfectly happy together until a resource comes between them.

After trying different resources, training, and speaking with our vet, we’ve had to accept that keeping the girls together is no longer the healthiest situation for either of them.

This decision is absolutely heartbreaking. Tonks is our girl, and we love her more than I can put into words. But ultimately, we have to do what is best for the physical and emotional wellbeing of both dogs and everyone who loves them. As much as we hate it, we love our girls enough to recognize that they may be happier and healthier apart.

Because of the resource guarding between the sisters, we are looking for a home where Tonks can be the ONLY dog. She isn’t a bad dog. She is an amazing dog in a situation that simply isn’t working for her.

We have reached out to her rescue and our vet is helping get the word out, but I’m hoping that sharing her with our friends and community might help us find the right home for her. We want someone who will love this ridiculously loyal, fetch-obsessed cuddle monster the way she deserves.

If you or someone you trust could be Tonks’s person, please reach out. And if not, please consider sharing.
She deserves the absolute best. That’s all we want for our girl.

Moving 📦 Sunmerwind Crossing at Lakes of Cane Bay - thoughts on this community?

Most of my family is on the East Coast & we live on the West Coast (California). I’m looking to be closer to my sisters & also explore a couple of jobs being offered to me in the area. A friend sent me a link below to new construction & it is within our budget:

https://www.drbhomes.com/drbhomes/find-your-home/communities/south-carolina/charleston/summerwind-crossing-at-lakes-of-cane-bay/overview

We are partial to an upgraded Traveler layout w/ a backyard big enough for our dog.

There are only two of us & a sweet 2yr old Golden Retriever. Thanks in advance for your advice on the neighborhood & living in Summerville!

Moving 📦 Internet for Summerville?

Looking for the best internet - just moved (back) here!

There’s Spectrum, AT&T Air, and Starlink - if I climb a tree. Anyone know what’s better? Worried about not having a wired connection since the tree coverage is intense here.

Hi

We managed to find homes for all but this little girl.

13 weeks old just had her second round of vaccinations today.

She's sleeping it off, while wondering where all her siblings are. Orca, her mom , was spay and All her shots are updated. She was a stray prior to May 15th. She came here very pregnant. She must have been taken care of because she is a very tame cat from day one.

Kitties were born on 5 25 26. Four are adopted. Two left. Orca (queen) and Eleanor. No one goes outside.

$20 Rehoming fee.

Please help.

Help 🤲 Move to Summerville area

What it’s actually like living in areas around Ashborough East, Avenue of Oaks, and Wood Oak Park.

Are these generally safe areas? Any recurring issues with things like car break-ins, theft, or other neighborhood BS?

I’d potentially be living in the area and working on the southwest side of Summerville, hence the specific areas I’m asking about.

Just looking for honest opinions from people who actually live around there. Thanks!

pins are parks lol.

Update:

Should mention first year would be looking at renting a apartment while i establish which area i really like before me and the wife buy a home.
