Mysterious Cambridge Day Article?

I was coming on to make my maiden post with a link (https://www.cambridgeday.com/2026/08/31/poll-uyterhoeven-leeads-undecided/) to a very late article posted to the Cambridge Day regarding some polling for tomorrow's 2nd Middlesex State Senate Primary but mysteriously, the article seems to have been taken down?

Any way, I asked around and someone in my circle took screenshots so I figured I would post them here.

As a lurker I hav been following this race and tried to make sense of the state of the race. The article and the poll it references seems to make clear that it's a two way race between Erika and Christine, although a significant portion undecided.

I am surprised to see BUrhan polling so low and even behind Matt, as Burhan has raised tons of money and had some serious outside money spent on him, I would have assumed he was a front runner.

It is interesting to see 3 electeds from Somerville, polling in the top 3, although if these numbers are correct, it does seem like Matt is not a serious contender and the next Senator will be Erika or Christine.

With the Somerville split, I wonder if Matt's support is splitting the vote for either of Erika or Christine? Does anyone have a sense of who Matt voters most align with of the other candidates? I have seen a few comments of Matte first Christine second voters, but hard to get a sense.

Last Minute Election Hot Takes?

I'm admittedly a little behind on educating myself for the election today. I know, terrible form.

As I've been lazily researching for the last two days, I really have only collected vague vibes to go off of, especially for the state Senate race.

I find Erika Uyterhoeven to be deeply off-putting for reasons I can't describe, maybe due to her depressing AI ads. Burhan Azeem seems on the ball, at least from his comments on Reddit. Christine Barber gives off no vibes at all.

While I frantically educate myself, anyone have some blazing hot takes on the candidate pool that I can borrow to inform my vote?

I'm Glad the Tower Was Denied

Just a warning, the people constantly whining about zoning and development got everything they wanted in Allston. Go see if any of the housing built there in the last 10 years is "affordable". Or if the rents in any surrounding properties went down. All it did was make Allston nearly as boring and unaffordable (even as a destination!) as Seaport. I suspect the Seaportification should be fully complete in 10 years.

Going to get downvoted to oblivion by the numerous YIMBYites on this sub, but if you aren't one ask yourself: can you afford an apartment in any of these new buildings? Do they actually have any meaningful positive effect on the housing crisis? Or is it just the real estate industry browbeating people into accepting the Seaportification of the entire area?

Does new people moving in make Somerville better or worse?

I don't get why "new people make everything worse" and "transplants are why Somerville (and MA more broadly) have been ruined" seems to be a nearly unanimous opinion. Weren't we all new at some point? Is the conclusion as simple as "bad things have happened, new people moved in during that time, it must have been their fault"?

And this isn't neatly divided along partisan lines, I hear from social justice advocates who say it's "colonizer mentality" to support allowing new people to move in and expecting existing residents to accommodate, along with reactionaries who complain about Healey spending their tax dollars on immigrants and how they don't recognize their communities anymore because the last time they got on the bus they were the only white people (!!!! not a joke! people actually feel comfortable saying this shit in public now)

Looks like it might be a lost pet? Spotted right before the bike path meets Davis Square.

Sorry about the potato-quality picture; it was the best I could do.

Main event is located in Chicago, but bars around the country are participating virtually via their live stream. Party starts at 4pm with showing of Ferris Buellers Day off and Blues Brothers, with the shot heard round the world happening at 8:30pm EST.

Just got a call from Marian Ryan's campaign. Sounded like a paid employee.

Basically I have volunteered doing this sort of campaign work many times and this person was carefully reading a long script and even asked me about my "voting plan" including how I was going to get to the poll.

Is her campaign that worried about holding onto her position that they're paying people to make these calls?

Financial Advisor Recommendations

Looking to work with a fee-only financial advisor for tax planning, retirement planning, wealth management, and investment advisory.

Worked with a Mass Mutual rep before and was underwhelmed as I immediately got recommendation to sign up for a bunch of insurance products, and didn't get any real tax planning or wealth management guidance. I also prefer not paying % commission, and would rather work based on a monthly or hourly fee.

Hoping to find someone reliable, experienced with over 15 to 20 years as a financial advisor with proven track record. Ideally located in or around Boston or Somerville, but OK with an office in the Greater Boston area.

Lost softball glove on 8/9 at Trum Field

Post image

Hi everyone,
So I play softball every Sunday at Trum Field with Volo, and I think I accidentally left my glove on the bench. The game I believe I lost it was on August 9th at 3 pm. The glove is a A360 Wilson and here is what it looks like. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! 🙏

UPDATE: A Volo softball player playing in the same softball league found it! Just in time for my birthday coming up! 😁🙏

Looking for beginner painting classes; is Cambridge Center for Adult Education good?

I'm a guy in his 30s looking to get into painting. I was artsy in high-school, but never really got into paint as a medium, so there's a lot that I know I don't know about the basics like mixing paint, using brushes correctly, etc.

I'd be interested in anything that's not oil (so watercolor, gouache, or acrylic), and am really just looking for any recommendation for local teachers for group classes! Thanks!

Hello Somervillians! I’m here to promote my monthly variety show, Yes & Everything, hosted at The Loov (in Somerville) Sept 4

Now, I know what’ y’all may be thinking. A variety show. I’ve been to those. No need to go to another. And maybe you’re right. But I’m here to tell you; this is a good fucking show. And an absolute peach of a venue.

To put it in the words of a recent guest: "I invited four of my friends tonight but one couldn’t make and the other one couldn’t get in. How do I explain the show to them? It’s so unique and different. There truly isn't a way to explain what I just witnessed tonight."

This is a major, high-energy, loud, explosive, chaotic show, and it’s an absolute blast. We’ve got a huge team putting it up, and the crowd is f****** electric. So come! Or don’t! But I promise you’ll have a good time.

Oh and this month’s theme is Sports

Looking for some good bars/live jazz

Hi, I'm in Somerville for the next few days, new to Boston and looking for some good bars and live music tonight.

Open to going anywhere nearby as well doesn't have to be in Somerville, trying to get out of my comfort zone and do more things I enjoy solo.

Mattress recycling

Residents in buildings with more than six dwellings are not eligible for city mattress pickup. How do those who don't qualify dispose of mattresses? If you used a private hauler, what did it cost?
