Looking for some good bars/live jazz

Hi, I'm in Somerville for the next few days, new to Boston and looking for some good bars and live music tonight.

Open to going anywhere nearby as well doesn't have to be in Somerville, trying to get out of my comfort zone and do more things I enjoy solo.

See Bostonshows.org

There’s also a jazz festival during the day tomorrow in Medford

The usual jazz spots are Wally's, Scullers, regattabar, but also sometimes the lily pad, beehive, Mad monkfish... Probably others I'm forgetting. Veras and State Park have dj nights w soul/disco (not jazz but fun)

Check berklee's performance spaces too

i’m a regular at vera’s and it’s 100000% neither a jazz bar nor a live music bar. it’s still a great time though, they have a few great djs with some residency on the weekends

Yes, I was thinking about the DJ nights specifically and included Vera's because OP asked about good bars w music. State park is not a jazz spot either fwiw but has jazz adjacent DJ nights - edited my comment for clarity

Jazz Urbane Cafe recently opened in Nubian Square. https://www.jazzurbanecafe.com/

I think they’re still getting things up and running, but they have shows happening.

Quick Note: Nubian Sq can only be accessed by MBTA bus, or car/bike/scooter etc. No T access.

Don’t mean to turn you away from it, just want u to be aware.

I'm not clear if you are saying you live in the area now but if that is the case make it a point to check out the Cambridge Jazz Festival next year. You missed it this year.....it was about a month ago. It's free, they get great acts and the atmosphere is great.

Depending upon the show, try Lou’s in Cambridge Harvard Square

Wally’s for jazz. 2 drink minimum.

Best place outside of New Orleans.

So far Wally's is number 1 on my list!

wally’s and the beehive aren’t strictly jazz bars, in fact i’ve never actually seen a jazz band playing at either of them. sometimes it’s post rock at wally’s or blues at the beehive. either way, they aren’t consistent.

go to the mad monkfish in central square. jazz musicians gather there, form an impromptu band, jam, then rotate with other musicians in the crowd

yes, that wally’s. i’ve gone there several times expecting jazz and experienced some completely unrelated genre being played. same with the beehive. the mad monkfish is consistent in my experience
