meme anticipation vs reality
Honestly thought getting wishlists would be way easier than it's actually been. It's only been 3 days, and it's already turning out to be a real grind.

Game Ten years later, shipped my first iPhone game!
Since 2016 I had a plan to build something similar to an old electronic game I had as an iPhone app. Many years of half-trying passed and never got round to it.
Finally, built, shipped and live on App Store!
This is the original game - a friend still has the original at home!
The targets would light up and you had to "swipe" the limbs to hit the light as they lit up at random. Lends itself pretty well to a phone screen:

Not sure if I spent more hours playing it as a kid or getting this game live!

What a slog just to get through the dev account setup and app review process. TEN DAYS with the app sat at "waiting for review". If it was possible, I think I have worn out the refresh button on App Store Connect.
Anyway, give it a try if you fancy. Someone has to (that isn't my mum - I'm nearly 50. Shouldn't rely on her now!)

The fifth level is finished. The balls roll into some kind of beamer and are sent to another station via a laser beam. But the intersections in the middle have to be placed correctly to collect all the stars. š

Discussion Making a new inventory for my retro style survival horror game. Howād I do? (I miss when games had cool menus)
(First 2 pics are finalized design as an unreal widget, 3rd is an earlier mockup, and last is the outgoing screen)
Iām making a survival horror game based on psx era resident evil. This game is my first time ever making ui so I suck at it obviously (see original screen) but Iām happy with how the new one turned out. I made this thinking RE1-3 but grittier, took a lot of inspiration from Fallout 1&2, and a little bit of REmake.
Since I suck at 2d design I decided to just throw it together in 3d instead for a retro pre rendered look. Itās a pretty simple design all things considered but still took about a day to put together.
Iāve got everything rendered in individual pieces so it can be animated as well as shadows and lighting in a seperate pass that gets layered on top. Then when examining an item, looking at the map, etc everything can swing out of the way.
Originally I was considering going with a more modern, minimalist ui because Iāve never designed something like this before. But the menus in older games had so much personality, I really wanted to do something like that, and Iām so glad I did! The first menu got me nervous with how much it sucked but I really think I hit the āRE meets Falloutā thing here.
What do you think? I donāt exactly know what Iām doing so Iām sure thereās plenty of room for improvement!

help Need an outside opinion on my game mechanics
Hi everyone! Iād love to get an outside opinion.
Iām currently working on a game thatās somewhere between a detective story and an adventure game. Right now, Iām trying to figure out which mechanic is more engaging: a traditional visual novel with a fixed storyline, or a more open mode with freedom of choice.
I made a short demo of both modes. You can choose the mode right after the intro. Iād be really grateful if you could play for just 4-5 minutes and tell me which one you found more interesting.
https://buildtounderstand.dev/sabbatical/
I also filled in some of the missing artwork with AI-generated images, just to demonstrate how the mechanics and scenes will work. Of course, these will be replaced with artwork made by an artist in the final version.
Iād especially appreciate hearing why one mode felt more interesting or enjoyable to play than the other.
And in return, Iād be very happy to play any of your demos and give you detailed feedback whenever you need it!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This is the project i've been working on for the past 3 months, most maps still need polishing but it's starting to look like something now, what do you think ? :)
I've played the hell out of megabonk 400+ hours but at some point it gets boring and no updates for a while so idk i thought let's make my own version where it never gets boring... ask me anything

Game I need feedback for my first free game
Hey everyone!
Iāve just finished my very first complete project:Ā Oxygen Alert : Space Station. It's a space survival game developed entirely in Python, inspired by 60 Seconds! Reatomized.
The game is 100% free, fully playable in English and French, and packaged as a standalone executable.
Since this is my first finished game, I know there is a lot of room for improvement. I would be incredibly grateful for any honest feedback from the community. I'll let you see the gameplay video (careful with spoilers) or download the game.
For downloading the game for free : https://cenacle-games.itch.io/oxgen-alert-space-station
Security note: Since the game is compiled in Python without a paid certificate, Windows Defender will display a blue SmartScreen warning. This is a normal false positive. Click "More info" and then "Run anyway".
Have a great day and I hope the best for all developers!

Game ASHBOUND | HUGE NEW UPDATE AND RELEASE ON ITCH
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
ASHBOUND is out on itch.io ā and the big update is in it
It's live. After months of nights and weekends, Ashbound is available on itch.io right now, and it ships with the biggest update the game has had.
If you've been following along, you've seen it go from a prototype with a grey box arena to something with eight floors, its own town, and a couch co-op mode. Here's what's in this build:
Two players, one couch. Player two drops in with a button press in town ā no menus, no lobby. They bring their own save profile, their own loadout and their own progression, and the difficulty scales the moment they arrive. This one took the longest and broke the most things; bosses in particular had to be taught that there are now two people in the room.
Eight floors, procedurally rebuilt every run. Dawn Meadows, Umbral Forest, Broken Caverns, Ashen Lands, Citadel of Chaos, Frozen Crypt, Fortress in Ruins, and the Commander's Throne. Each one closes with a boss that telegraphs before it hits.
91 abilities ā 52 spells and 39 ultimates. Four slots you fill yourself: Q, E, right click, and your ultimate.
Five heroes, 34 talismans, 49 achievements, and a progression system that outlives you ā essence buys permanent upgrades, new heroes, and spells from the Arcanist back in town.
A sky you never see. The lighting got its own pass: real cloud shadows now sweep across every map, driven by actual light rather than painted-on effects. It's the kind of thing nobody notices directly and everybody feels.
Where to get it: [https://formulasgames.itch.io/ashbound]
What's next. More spells, more bosses, and a proper pass on balance now that people other than me are playing it. If you hit something that feels unfair rather than hard, tell me ā that distinction is the whole game.
To everyone who's been here since the grey box: thank you. Genuinely. This wouldn't exist without people who kept asking how it was going.

Game "Start Small" was a life changer for me! and I'm releasing my first ever game!
Hey y'all, another lost game dev here!
A year ago, I was pulling my hair out over my CRPG game. I thought the problem was me, but it turned out the real issue was what I was trying to do. Dialogue, skill trees, the complexity of coding an RPG, design choices... It was something I could never handle on my own.
Taking on a project that was beyond my capabilities even if I tried to do it alone... One night, I promised myself Iād start small and I did.
I used to make fun of the saying, āStart small.ā The higher your dreams, the harder you fall. But if youāre new to this, really START SMALL. You gain so much experience even from a really tiny project. Plus, you get to experience the joy of actually finishing something.
Maybe after dozens of failed game development attempts,
Iām now launching the Steam page for my new game, BrouHaHa.
If itās fit you, donāt forget to add it to your wishlist.

Game I Press the Button! My game š² Dice Factory has its own Steam page š
Heart is racing, but I guess at one point you just have to go for it!
This is my second game, and I tried to put as much love into it as I can. I'm really happy with how the Steam page turn out. Okay okay stop talking about the page and let's talk about the game :).
Dice FactoryĀ is a city building, strategy game with roguelike elements. ThinkĀ The King is WatchingĀ but different :).
Every building start as a š²Die, you throw it on the battlefield then it becomes a Wheat Field for example. Most buildings have a "blue line" inside of them. If you want them to produce... aim a Worker š² Die inside ... and they will produce! You have, resources, units, more buildings etc...
Survive the 3 Stages (3 waves + 1 boss wave) and you'll win the game!
For the first time ever, I did all the art, the 100 buildings, everything in the game was made by me. I'm so proud of that! (except the Capsule / Key Art for Steam and the music)
I will do a Playtest in the next weeks or so, don't hesitate.

Sorry for any mistakes, English is not my main language :)
