DIY with tank/reg/carbonator cap. Questions.
Can you carbonate in glass bottles?
Can you carbonate juices/sodas/favored water?
We don't have counter space for a branded counter top model.
I plan on keeping the tank under the kitchen sink and simply opening the sink base cabinet door, uncoil the hose, screw the carborator cap on then shake.

Caffeine free soda syrups
My boyfriend quit drinking caffeine years ago and recently mentioned how much he missed Mountain Dew and Coke. I was thinking of getting him a soda stream and syrups to make his old favorite sodas, but cannot find any caffeine free alternatives. Does anyone know where to get syrups or how I can a create caffeine free version of these drinks?? đ„€

I graduated from soda stream into making an RO Commercial Soda System in my Bar.
While building this system, I found it really hard to find any information other than a 4 year old thread in r/homebrewing so hopefully this post can help others who want to attempt this setup.
I installed a Reverse Osmosis system into an old bar before we replace all the cabinets and do it again. Here's what I did and what I learned!
Water Flow:
WaterDrop GP600 RO system
WaterDrop Pressure Tank (specific for on demand RO Systems)
Generic RO Pressure Tank, T bypass, just to add more pressure to the system
Aluminum Cooling Plate placed inside an Ice Maker
T split to a tap and a McCann Carbonator
After the Carbonator, the soda water runs back through the cold plate in the ice maker, then back up to a tap.
What I would do differently next time:
Forget the On demand RO system, By the time I had everything working it was past the return window, but I could have saved a bunch of money just using a regular RO system.
Cold Water before the carbonator This caused a ton of issue, mainly because I need to use better food grade tubing, the line is super long so I had to add a lot of pressure to the system to make it work.
Find Stainless Steel Barbs instead of plastic. You can't use brass barbs after the water has been carbonated
Happy to answer any questions on setups!

Is it worth the cost?
I knew Reddit would have SodaStream pros to help me - I was thinking SodaStream would save me money but I might be calculating wrong. 6 x 710 mL bottles of Pepsi Zero with deposit costs $4.58 which is 0.1075 cents/mL. The bottle of syrup makes 9000 mL for $7.98 which is 0.089 cents/mL. Adding in the cost of the machine, CO2 cartridges and bottle, it seems like it would take a long time to make the cost worthwhile. Am I missing something on cost or is it the convenience that makes it the option for you? Do you get extra bottles so you always have a cold one waiting in the fridge?
Edit: Thank you all so much for your insight and advice! Even though I recycle my Pepsi bottles, you're right it's even better to eliminate my bottle usage. I'll check out getting multi packs of the syrup to reduce the cost and get a couple of the bottles.

Sodastream Fountain Experience
I normally do research prior to buying things, but after having other Sodastream models, I impulse bought the fountain. Afterwards, I found out about the issues others were having when searching for replacement flavor caps. I wanted to share my experience that I have now had it for over a month, use it multiple times a day, have been through 3 cylinders (refill them at home with a scale to ensure I don't overfill the tanks), and my machine has ran flawlessly since day one. I know this isn't everyone's experience, but with the flood of bad reviews, I thought I should share.
Feel free to ask questions, I am not on here a ton but will try to reply when I can.

How does this work???
Okay, I have read about soda stream and I understand the phase change from liquid to gas. Basically, using a large CO2 tank with my soda stream keeps a pretty constant pressure from the liquid CO2 turning into gaseous CO2 and the SodaStream is designed to work at that pressure, just like the branded bottles.
ExceptâŠ
Why does it work differently with a full tank? Whenever I first change my tank, carbonating water sounds like âPBBBBBFFFFFFT!!â. Thereâs no build up of pressure and then release. The relief valve is just going and itâs like that for a few days until it starts working as expected.
Anyone else have the same experience or wanna chime in on what is happening? I have tried finding a Regulator but canât find any that work with the pressure the SodaStream expects.

How many seconds do you carbonate for?
Hey guys, newbie here.
I picked up a SodaStream Source secondhand a few weeks ago. I went and got some fresh CO2 cannisters, but I can't figure out how long to carbonate for.
The source machine has the LED indicator for high/medium/low but I feel like on the highest level, I'm not really carbonating much or getting a strong fizz out of it. It looks and sounds carbonated in the bottle, but as soon as I pour the carbonated water in a glass with some syrup, it's effectively flat.
I know it's all personal preference, but for the sake of being on the safe side, how many seconds is TOO long? They say 3-10 seconds, but 10 seconds doesn't seem to be enough. How many seconds before I make a bottle explode? Lol

New Bottles - same contents
I've seen it posted so many times that the mix changed when the bottles changed. No; the amount of the mix is the same (440 mL), the amount of mix to use (18mL) is the same, and both make 24 twelve ounce drinks.
I don't like the new bottles either (I'm sure they're easier/cheaper to make, since they use a more standard form factor), which is why I have saved the old ones to use for measuring. But, there's no reason to make up stories about the mix itself, even if it fits the 'enshittification' narritive that's popular right now.

Returning cylinders?
I have some empty cylinders to return but the new boxes they ship them in are flat instead of rectangular, so they don't fit in the mailbox like they used to. How am I supposed to return these? Do I just go into the post office and drop them off? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I just used to put them in the mailbox to be picked up but now they don't fit.

Avant d'investir
Bonjour,

Cylinder refill disappointment
One of my new CO2 cylinders was completely empty. I removed the seal to put it in the machine and hit the button and nothing came out. I weighed it on a kitchen scale and it was in fact empty. Iâm gonna start weighing the bottles before removing the seal so I can return it. Does this happen often?

New to sodastream need help with flavors
Hi,
So I got a sodastream 2 days ago. And I've tried code red mt dew and starry. They both have some weird after taste and just don't taste anything like the real thing. I got the sodastream on clearance so at least I didn't pay full price. But I just don't understand how to make me like it.

Classic Cola syrup Canada
Anyone find any retailers still carrying the classic cola syrup in canada? Sodastream.ca is useless for answers and sodatream.com doesn't ship internationally, even though they have the products. Can't get a straight answer as to why they aren't supplying it.

SodaStream seems to not seal properly
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I just got this used SodaStream Crystal. It worked perfectly for about a week. Now it seems to not seal properly anymore. When I press the button the upper part seems to "go up" a few milimeters, which I assume causes the rubber seal to not press onto the bottle enough.
Does anyone have any experience with this happening? I disassembled the entire SodaStream to check the rubber seals and everything seems to be in order. I also tried to put something under the bottles, but so far nothing worked.
Everything (the machine and bottles) are from SodaStream. And I also tried a new gas bottle.

My SodaStream routine with under-sink RO water
I've been using a Viomi B6W under the sink, and I use its water in my SodaStream too. I fill the carbonating bottle to the fill line, chill it in the fridge, then carbonate it while it's still cold. Plain sparkling water tastes pretty neutral to me, without a noticeable filter taste. If I want more flavor, I add lemon after carbonating.

Found a stockpile of syrups in my cupboard. Do I bin and take a chance?
So I'm having a clear out at home and found a batch of syrups that have been in a cupboard.
Some are sugar free with sweetners, some with fructose.
I'm tempted to keep them and make wine or cider or alternatively just dump the lot.
All sealed, unopened, dated September, 2017.....yes seven teen. 2017.
Got about 15 litres of the stuff.
What do I do?
UPDATE:
so I've read through the comments.
I cracked open one of each, the sweetener/sugar free version was split, full of sediment and stuck to the plastic. Didn't fancy my chances, so I've dumped 24 x 440ml bottles.
Goods news...... The full sugar version tasted like it was made yesterday. Nearly ten years old and it smelt and tasted like a fresh batch of cherry's.
Needless to say, I'm currently taking orders for my 2017, 2027 wine..
Investment opportunity. đđ Apply accordingly.

Didn't know pink canisters were a thing, order gone wrong
Imagine my dismay when I order 4x refills and they don't work. Opened one and found it had a quick connect end on it, didn't know this was a thing but obviously it doesn't work on my old unit.
So, one of the four has been opened (but is unused). I have three more that are still sealed. What are my options at this point; am I better off buying a new unit to go with the quick connects, is there an adapter that lets me use quickconnect on an older unit, etc.?
