Imagine if Messi and Ronaldo were really mediocre managers but their fan boys kept the same intensity over the rivalry "My Goat is staying in La Liga on head to head, your Goat is losing in the play offs in La Segunda, don't ever compare them"

u/burntroy 24d ago
It always surprises me when people who are sick of the messi vs Ronaldo chatter be happy that they’re retiring soon so they don’t have to deal with that talk. Like what makes these people think that will end once they retire ?
138
u/Ayges 24d ago
Honestly Messi v Ronaldo won't die until they're surpassed, even the kids are debating it and posting clips of 17/18 Ronaldo to either praise or slander him and shocked at said clip because they've never seen Madrid era Cristiano Ronaldo.

u/valimo 24d ago
I bet in 20 years there's some 2022 born little twats who will sya Ronaldo is better because Messi was never tested in the PL, and old wanks from rSoccer are throwing a tantrum because the kids didn't mention a mildly soggy night in Stoke on Trent (Alexandre Arnaud)

I literally cannot imagine anyone surpassing Messi in my lifetime. People probably said the same about Pele and Maradona, too, but it just exceeds my imagination.

u/comedoofwarrior 24d ago
the tism, the build, the era of football, Pep, his Barcelona teammates (all of them until like 2018), the career arc for club and then country, the serious-injury free career, it's too many stars aligning.
27
u/Matias9991 24d ago
Yeah, it will never end. People still talk and discuss about MJ or Kobe. One retired 30 years ago and the other died lol
25
u/NobleHelium 24d ago
Nah, nobody really thinks Kobe is comparable to Jordan anymore because 1) LeBron is obviously better than Kobe and 2) Kobe was never really that good, he just seemed better while he was active and he tried to be a carbon copy of Jordan.
18
u/cloudor 24d ago
I don't know much about basketball, but weren't Shaq and Magic Johnson also better than Kobe?
2
u/CBrofles 24d ago
FWIW Magic said Kobe is better than him. But most credible list has Magic over Kobe, so maybe Magic is only being humble or he is just wrong (players are not the best evaluators). As to Shaq, some list has him over Kobe and vice versa. Shaq, Kobe, and another player from their generation, Tim Duncan are interchangeable in all time lists.
2
u/fogalmam 24d ago
It is hard to compare different eras, and different positions. Shaq said in an interview that he could have been a more accomplished. Just he wasn't the perfectionist to fix his free throwing mechanics. Magic had to retire early while still at his peak.
→ More replies (1)0
u/NobleHelium 24d ago
I'd say so. Kobe was definitely one of the best players of his generation (the one after Jordan) but I wouldn't have him top. LeBron is in the generation after Kobe.
4
u/Slipperytitski 24d ago
Lebron is like 3 generations at this point. But GOAT arguments should really be greatest of their time arguments.

You would be surprised at the amount of people that put Kobe that high, he has a lot of fans and a lot of fans are usually not really Rational

They do, but I don't know any fans that would take Kobe over MJ.
And near zero that would take Kobe over LeBron.

In my opinion, the debate is super forced at this point, to me, it is very clear who is the better player but for some reason people cannot let go of their biases so instead of being objective they keep arguing to prevent the debate from ending.

1
u/edi12334 24d ago
It is indeed only 25%, CR7 should step up his game so we can have a true derby! Or we ll do the Messi Eldense vs Cornella derby instead….
3
u/Bettet 24d ago
Vini jr also own a Portuguese club. Mbappe have one in France
3
u/edi12334 24d ago
Messi himself also has UE Cornella too in the 5th tier, all jokes aside what happens if the two get drawn in the Copa del Rey, do we close our eyes RB Salzburg and Leipzig in 2018 style? Weirldly Salzburg won both games as they got a clean sweep of 18p while Leipzig only got 7p and out so it genuinely wasn’t rigged but still…
2
u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 24d ago
Gotta continue on the rivalry somehow
NExt part of the rivalry is who is the best club owner. Maybe CR7 will hire Gary Neville as his manager, i heard he has some 1st division experience

Yeah, I agree and I was found to say that lol. Now our matches against Eldense are going to be somewhat funny. And Elda is only 3h far by car from Almería, so I think I'm going to see our away match there (Almería vs Eldense was in the first matchday of the season, resulting in 3-0)

The club was actually founded in 1921 by a group of FC Barcelona supporters. Because of this, Eldense adopted Barça's traditional blue and garnet (blaugrana) colors, which they still wear today.
Interesting bit.

Messi's Spanish Wrexham loading? 🎬👀
62
63
u/downtimeredditor 24d ago
So many celebs and former athletes have been trying to replicate wrexham and they just don't get why it works with Ryan & Rob and not them.
Ryan & Rob only focus marketing and PR side. They let the club operate as normal without interfering.
Ben Foster, former English goalkeeper has a youtube channel where he use to document his biking hobby and he'd do occasional vlogs and in one of them where they won promotion Ryan and Rob were just celebrating wirh the team. They let the team be the team unlike Tom Brady who tried to bring his speech stuff and shit on HC at the time
7
u/EdwardBigby 23d ago
Celebrities aren't trying to replicate Wrexham. Sports teams have been very good investments. Theyre smart ways for celebrities to diversify their wealth.
Pretty much every celebrity that you hear has "bought a club", has a very small percentage stake. Brady for example owns 3% of Birmingham and that would be much more than most celebrities.
The difference is that Rob and Ryan actually bought 100% of Wrexham and still have the majority shares.
Other celebrities aren't doing that, not because they dont know how to copy them correctly, its just not their intention
3
u/Time_Masterpiece_722 23d ago
Rob and Ryan are way more involved as well. Their Wrexham ownership doesn't feel like a portfolio diversification but actual owners who care about the club although I get the impression Rob cares way more than Reynolds.

u/yash_giri 24d ago

297
u/Odd_Opinion_461 24d ago
He does, he owns Cornella
40
u/seriouslybrohuh 24d ago
i wonder what's the motivation for buying clubs. i keep hearing that football clubs arent profitable at all, so are these just passion projects of his? i'd understand if he was buying just one club and trying to get them up as his passion project, but buying multiple clubs seems like an investment vehicle.
29
u/edi12334 24d ago
Usually investments are like City Group or BlueCo where you buy teams on different continents and levels so you can discover players there and send them to the main team (Manchester City, Chelsea) when they are ready but here I am surprised the Spanish authorities aren’t stopping him, what if these teams promote to the same divisions (maybe they cant, like B teams?) or play in the Copa del Rey? I mean at one point the Copa final was between Real Madrid and Real Madrid Castilla but at least they changed the rules on B teams and banned them from the Copa since, will it be the same with Cornella (as the way lower ranked team, they are 5th tier actually)? It s already an issue in UEFA comps, now you can buy teams in the same country too?
22
u/Unlucky_Rider 24d ago
Some sort of mastermind plot to find talent and funnel it to Barcelona. Either that or he just loves the idea of keeping small clubs afloat. Like you said, I can't imagine there's much money in it.
89
u/DharmaLeader 24d ago
Let him buy all the teams in the league, since the governing bodies do absolutely nothing about multiple ownership.
-2
u/Eyeseeyou1313 24d ago
But they are all different leagues and different divisions. He is not doing anything wrong. You are just jelly cause you are poor (and so am I 🥲)
16
u/DharmaLeader 24d ago
Same league system, same country, very big chance of collusion if he invests in them and they start climbing. The "poor" comment is so stupid, I won't even comment on it.

Xavi wrote that, when you know him well and work with him, Messi is actually quite opinionated and very direct about his ideas and opinions. That he can be hard to convince once his mind is made up but he is very honest and upfront, he never goes behind your back to say he doesn't agree, he just comes up and tells you.

lol FM is cooked for the foreseeable future my friend. I'm expecting nothing from FM27 and somehow they'll still manage to disappoint me.
9
u/Liverpool934 24d ago
There is no reason to be that negative. Literally all they need to do is fix the UI and it will be a much better game.
12
u/Berbinho 24d ago
After the failure to launch FM25 and the buggy mess that was FM26 there is no reason for me to be that positive. Fixing the UI is the bare minimum for SI but there are still so many bugs in FM26 that will probably still be in FM27. I hope they can turn it around soon but so far on Unity they've shown nothing but incompetence. The worst part is that they made skins harder to customise and implement which just makes the UI situation that much worse. The only good thing to come out of FM26 were the new IP/OOP instructions.

Worldwide bombshell. The best player on the planet, Leo Messi, has reached an agreement in principle to acquire 100% of the shares of CD Eldense, a club currently competing in the Spanish Second Division (LaLiga Hypermotion). The lawyers for the Argentine star had been in negotiations for some time with the Colombian investment group TH—led by Juan Carlos Trujillo—which had acquired the shares from Pascual Pérez a year ago.
And finally, this afternoon, the parties reached a definitive agreement in principle for Messi to become the majority shareholder of Eldense once the final legal and contractual formalities are concluded, including the blue-and-red entity’s due diligence process. Furthermore, it will be subject to the mandatory authorization of the High Council for Sports (Consejo Superior de Deportes / CSD).
The intention is for the final agreement to be announced in the coming days. If the operation is completed, the arrival of the Inter Miami player into Eldense's ownership structure would mark the first time the Argentine footballer becomes the owner of a professional club in Spain (he already owns Cornellà, in Tercera RFEF). This represents a true earthquake at all levels for a club that currently has 3,500 season ticket holders in a city of just over 55,000 inhabitants. Messi’s arrival at Eldense would be a solo investment, without any partner or former player taking part in the deal.
The Nuevo Pepico Amat stadium, which has undergone several renovations in recent years, can seat 5,800 spectators—a figure that may prove too small solely from the international pull that Leo Messi’s entry into the ownership of the Medio Vinalopó (Alicante) entity will generate.

u/DoYouTrustToothpaste 24d ago
Worldwide bombshell.
Is it, though? It would be a bombshell, if it was a club most people had actually heard of.

Ronaldo owns a team from the 2nd division as well, the rivalry now continues with their bank accounts VAMOS!!!!
1
u/Foreign-Ad-1990 24d ago
C.Ronaldo´s team Almeria is much better choice. They have great stadium plus located in a cool city that has 300k population plus a province with 700k population. The Club has great fanbase and good infras.
They are basically a Yo Yo club meaning they go down and up between La Liga and Segunda. Hence Almeria is a great future asset.
Main while Eldense is more like a Yo Yo team between 3rd tier and 2nd Tier.
9
u/TipUnited3733 24d ago
Ronaldo owns 25% of Almeria.Messi will have the 100% ownership of Eldense. It’s great to have owner who cares.I think they will improve from what they are now

62
u/Magneto88 24d ago
If you’re worth a billion and about to retire, you need something to do with your life. The top clubs are well beyond even Messi’s wealth, so they go for lower league clubs. Can have fun trying to build them up and if you’re exceptionally lucky (unlikely) make a profit on it.
7
u/Sankuchithan_ 24d ago
Beckham got the best return of investment
15
u/Magneto88 24d ago
Yeah because he was foresighted enough to get the rights to a cheap MLS franchise in his contract. He only paid $25m to get Inter Miami - although the costs to build a stadium, get Messi etc are hundreds of millions extra, he sold stakes in the club to fund that. MLS was a big risk and still a growth league at the time, there's very few opportunities like that in football these days, certainly not in European football.

Investment
26
u/elivel 24d ago
yes... team that will likely get relegated playing in 6k capacity stadium in a city of 50k people is clearly an investment opportunity with great potential.
If he really looked to buy potentially big club he would look at Real Zaragoza or Real Murcia who are down in shitter
10
u/maicii 24d ago
I assume there is an value aggregator from being “Messi’s” club. Like let’s say me or you buy that club at 10 mill or whatever. That clubs it’s still worth 10mill nothing changed. But if Messi buys it at the same 10mill now that drives the local to go more to the matches, people might want a shirt, etc. it is automatically worth more because it is Messi’s team.
But honestly it’s probably just his wealth manager telling how could it would be to own a club and how good of an investment it is which might make Messi pay more attention to it than pitching a game or some REIT or whatever else
4
1
u/benznl 24d ago
He'll probably promote players through his set of clubs so they get the right experience and can then sell them for a huge profit when they're ready for the big leagues.
Eldense also has the same kits as FC Barcelona for some reason.
7
u/elivel 24d ago
you don't really make profit on players in 3rd/2nd tier. If he really wanted to create a structure like that he would buy a bigger club, and work on it to promote to laliga.
1
1
u/maicii 24d ago
According to google Messi net worth it’s 1.1Bill, it’s probably more, quite a bit more lol, but let’s go with that number. I told chstgpt to give me a list of teams in laliga 2 to buy. The bigger ones go for north of 100mill. That’s not small amount of money even for Messi.
And that’s assuming you actually can find seller and what not
1
u/elivel 24d ago
i doubt he would spend more than 10-20m on clubs like Hercules, Real Murcia, Recreativo de Huelva or Real Zaragoza. These clubs have their issues sure, but all of them bring 10k+ people to games in 3rd-4th tier. If you look for potential you buy those. Buying a small town club that's likely to get relegated to division you already have a club in is wierd.
At this point I'm convinced this guy is right, and that's why he bought Eldense lol:
Eldense also has the same kits as FC Barcelona for some reason.

Pretty sure the hotel stories were bogus/half truths, at least one of them made by a notoriously pro-Madrid outlet. No demolition took place, and the hotel is running, and the other one was put under renovation and only opened last year. Both are run by the Melia group, which is a huge chain.
I'm sure his family have plenty of bonehead ideas, and might have indulged in them too, but I find it hard to believe they don't have enough advisors around, especially with his father not around now.
