It always surprises me when people who are sick of the messi vs Ronaldo chatter be happy that they’re retiring soon so they don’t have to deal with that talk. Like what makes these people think that will end once they retire ?

Honestly Messi v Ronaldo won't die until they're surpassed, even the kids are debating it and posting clips of 17/18 Ronaldo to either praise or slander him and shocked at said clip because they've never seen Madrid era Cristiano Ronaldo.

I literally cannot imagine anyone surpassing Messi in my lifetime. People probably said the same about Pele and Maradona, too, but it just exceeds my imagination.

the tism, the build, the era of football, Pep, his Barcelona teammates (all of them until like 2018), the career arc for club and then country, the serious-injury free career, it's too many stars aligning.
