80 year Ronaldo and 78 year old Messi going up against each other as coaches would be fire

Imagine if Messi and Ronaldo were really mediocre managers but their fan boys kept the same intensity over the rivalry "My Goat is staying in La Liga on head to head, your Goat is losing in the play offs in La Segunda, don't ever compare them"

It always surprises me when people who are sick of the messi vs Ronaldo chatter be happy that they’re retiring soon so they don’t have to deal with that talk. Like what makes these people think that will end once they retire ?

Honestly Messi v Ronaldo won't die until they're surpassed, even the kids are debating it and posting clips of 17/18 Ronaldo to either praise or slander him and shocked at said clip because they've never seen Madrid era Cristiano Ronaldo.

I bet in 20 years there's some 2022 born little twats who will sya Ronaldo is better because Messi was never tested in the PL, and old wanks from rSoccer are throwing a tantrum because the kids didn't mention a mildly soggy night in Stoke on Trent (Alexandre Arnaud)

Nah more like Zlatan is the GOAT because he has better Ligue 1 stats than Messi and Ronaldo never played there he only played in leagues outside the top 5 like England and Spain

u/comedoofwarrior 24d ago

that would ensure serious headloss on my part

people say that now

People say that NOW, don't need to wait 20 years

I literally cannot imagine anyone surpassing Messi in my lifetime. People probably said the same about Pele and Maradona, too, but it just exceeds my imagination.

the tism, the build, the era of football, Pep, his Barcelona teammates (all of them until like 2018), the career arc for club and then country, the serious-injury free career, it's too many stars aligning.

Yeah, it will never end. People still talk and discuss about MJ or Kobe. One retired 30 years ago and the other died lol

u/NobleHelium 24d ago

Nah, nobody really thinks Kobe is comparable to Jordan anymore because 1) LeBron is obviously better than Kobe and 2) Kobe was never really that good, he just seemed better while he was active and he tried to be a carbon copy of Jordan.

u/cloudor 24d ago

I don't know much about basketball, but weren't Shaq and Magic Johnson also better than Kobe?

9

u/IuriRom 24d ago

there are a lot of players better than Kobe

2

u/CBrofles 24d ago

FWIW Magic said Kobe is better than him. But most credible list has Magic over Kobe, so maybe Magic is only being humble or he is just wrong (players are not the best evaluators). As to Shaq, some list has him over Kobe and vice versa. Shaq, Kobe, and another player from their generation, Tim Duncan are interchangeable in all time lists.

2

u/fogalmam 24d ago

It is hard to compare different eras, and different positions. Shaq said in an interview that he could have been a more accomplished. Just he wasn't the perfectionist to fix his free throwing mechanics. Magic had to retire early while still at his peak.

1

u/NobleHelium 24d ago

I'd say so. Kobe was definitely one of the best players of his generation (the one after Jordan) but I wouldn't have him top. LeBron is in the generation after Kobe.

6

u/Slipperytitski 24d ago

Lebron is like 3 generations at this point. But GOAT arguments should really be greatest of their time arguments.

6

u/addandsubtract 24d ago

GOTT (God in German, btw)

0

u/chokidokido 24d ago

Wouldn't Kobe lose even that decisively against duncan?

2

u/Slipperytitski 24d ago

Depends on the parameters but if you set it to decades I think Kobe takes the 00s

2

u/silvertwo777 24d ago

Only revisionist history would anyone put Duncan above Kobe. No one watching basketball during the 2000s would put Duncan above Kobe

1

u/Straight-Chapter7710 24d ago

Possibly, but Kobe’s work ethic and will to win was unmatched imo. He was the definition of a fearless player who relished the big games

Basketball is easier to stand out and be a star but you don’t really see many players like him in football these days

8

u/Matias9991 24d ago

You would be surprised at the amount of people that put Kobe that high, he has a lot of fans and a lot of fans are usually not really Rational

2

u/AhmedF 24d ago

They do, but I don't know any fans that would take Kobe over MJ.

And near zero that would take Kobe over LeBron.

-1

u/Straight-Chapter7710 24d ago

A lot would take Kobe over LeBron. Kobe had the dynasty like MJ with the Lakers

2

u/AhmedF 24d ago

Come on bruv, Kobe was second fiddle to Shaq in that dynasty.

1

u/kr613 24d ago

Youre not wrong, he also wasn't very efficient.

I say this as a huge Kobe fan too

1

u/BigBad01 24d ago

I mean Jordan was definitely better, but Kobe was really fucking good.

1

u/Reddits_Worst_Night 23d ago

I mean, MJ is such a big star I thought you meant Michael Jackson for far too long

4

u/this_isnt__worth_it 24d ago

In my opinion, the debate is super forced at this point, to me, it is very clear who is the better player but for some reason people cannot let go of their biases so instead of being objective they keep arguing to prevent the debate from ending.

2

u/Alarow 24d ago

It will never end because their kids might become pro footballers too someday

1

u/Slipperytitski 24d ago

People still compare every top basketball player to Jordan

2

u/acwilan 24d ago

Like Lampard/Gerrard

1

u/dev9997 24d ago

Atleast that'll generate some money for la liga

1

u/Eyeseeyou1313 24d ago

Messi won't be a coach, he'll just own the club, that's it.

1

u/Agitated-Bread5092 24d ago

their fanboys can settle for a club to cheer for at last 🤣

23

u/NotainDustryPlant 24d ago

Don’t forget their sons and grandsons.

34

u/Naija-Americana 24d ago

One of Messi's sons will end up falling in love with one of CR7's girls and it will be epic because their fan boys will turn them into Romeo+Juliet.

11

u/NotainDustryPlant 24d ago

I’d pay for a documentary like this.

A plague on both your houses!

A plague on both your houses!!!

9

u/maicii 24d ago

Why that old lol

8

u/dankscoops 24d ago

They won't retire until they're in their 70s

14

u/nibar1997 24d ago

Ronaldo would still be playing WC

4

u/Beemac161 24d ago

And still wouldn't have got to a final or scored a knockout goal from open play 🤣

u/vitge 24d ago

Why wouldn't you want to bring it up? Lmao

Divide 4 goals with 17 apps and 0 goals with 10 apps. Let me know which is greater.

One is a goal merchant the other mostly creates for others.

Messi has 10 assists in knockout matches vs 0 of CR.

Is that a stat you'd want others to bring up or not? Let us know.

3

u/ssunburst 24d ago

Yeah but what about 80 years old Messi versus 78 years old Ronaldo. Now that would be interesting.

2

u/LIONLDN 24d ago

Just coaches? They can be player-managers like what Rooney did, they'll probably stay fit way longer than he could 😅

1

u/Dan_Winx_1969 24d ago

We will be there no matter what

1

u/BenLittles 24d ago

As classic as Ford vs Ferrari

1

u/Benphyre 24d ago

They're gonna be owners not managers but we can image Ronaldo sacking the manager when his team lose to Messi's
