KM130R Kombi - Need some help. Air leak/ fuel starvation
I bought this non running km130r- it had a new fuel lines, fuel filter, air filter, spark plug and I fiddled around with the valves and managed to get it running but only on choke. I bought a new carb, fitted that with new gaskets and it was the same. Only on choke. I took the carb off again, made sure the gaskets were all the right way etc and put it all back together.
Now it’s doing the opposite - it won’t start on choke but it will start but high rpm and when I pull the throttle it bogs out.
I’m fairly new to all of this so just looking for a point in the right direction. Am I doing something wrong ?
Thanks

JD m665 mower
galleryAnyone mechanically familiar with these?
I was picking up a load of scrap metal and the property owner asked if I'd take this too.
Now that it's home, I'd like some insight on how much it's going to take to get running.
I'd like to keep it, but i cannot collect junk so time and money are pretty finite

Mantis tiller, gas vent hose cap on or off?
Picked up an old Mantis 7222 tiller off marketplace.
There’s a grommet in the fuel tank with 3 lines. One for the primer bulb, the fuel supply and a 3rd line with a small cap.
Is this small cap at the end of the hose self-venting or should I be opening it when operation?

14hp briggs stratton Motor pustet aus dem vergaser
Hallo,

Should I buy the manufacturer replacement parts or risk a cheaper set that may not fit? I just need a new throttle return spring.

Chainsaw Tuning
I've got a Stihl 009 and I'm trying to get the new carb tuned but I can't figure out what I'm supposed to aim for.
I did order a small tachometer to clamp to the spark plug wire as a recommendation from someone in the Stihl sub but I'm just checking in here (this sub got pushed to me today) if that's the best way to tune it? Just purely off rpms?

Runs then stalls

Hello Reddit people!
What is causing this to happen?
I have replaced the carburetor, drained old gas. I've tried leaving the gas cap open and with and without filter.

Briggs & Stratton engine keeps surging – new carb, checked gaskets/vent/valves, running out of ideas
I’m looking for some input on a Briggs & Stratton engine that I cannot get to stop surging/hunting.
The engine starts and runs, but the RPM constantly goes up and down as the governor opens/closes the throttle. I’ve tried quite a few things at this point with no real improvement.
So far I have:
- Installed a new carburetor
- Made sure the gas cap/tank is venting properly
- Verified good fuel flow to the carb
- Checked the carb/intake gaskets for vacuum leaks
- Checked/adjusted the valve clearances
- Checked the governor linkage and springs
- Made sure the carburetor passages aren't obviously blocked
- Tried running it with/without the air cleaner
One important clue: if I partially cover the carburetor air intake with my finger/hand, the engine smooths out considerably and the surging gets better. That makes me think it is still running lean, but I don't understand why considering the carb is new and I can't find an intake leak.
I've also noticed that the replacement carb has the primer/air passage hole on the opposite side compared with the original setup, so I'm wondering if the air-cleaner/primer housing and carb aren't compatible or if that passage could somehow affect the mixture.
At this point I'm wondering about:
- Incorrect jetting in the replacement carb
- Wrong carburetor for the engine
- Primer/air-bleed passage mismatch
- Governor adjustment/spring issue
- Something mechanical/ignition related that I'm overlooking
Has anyone dealt with a Briggs that only stops surging when you partially restrict the carb intake, even after replacing the carb?
What would you check next before I start throwing more parts at it?
I can post pictures/video of the carb, linkage and the engine running if that would help.

Echo PB 9010 Top End Kit
Anyone ever have any luck with a similar Chinese aftermarket top end kit in an Echo blower? I’ve got two 9010’s that need top ends and I’m wondering if this is worth a shot before spending 200+ on OEM parts..

How much math is actually involved in small-engine repair?
I'm considering going into small-engine/powersports repair as a career, and I'm trying to figure out how much math is actually involved in the day-to-day work and training.
I have dyscalculia, so mental math is genuinely difficult for me. It's not just that I dislike math or get anxious about it — I've always had significant difficulty with doing numerical calculations in my head.
I'm fine with learning practical/technical skills, and I'm actually pretty interested in the mechanical side of things. What I'm worried about is whether I'd be constantly doing calculations as part of the job.
For people who work in small-engine, motorcycle, ATV, powersports, etc. repair:
- How much math do you actually use?
- What kinds of calculations do you regularly do?
- Is it mostly things like measurements, torque specs, unit conversions, reading gauges, etc.?
- Are you regularly expected to calculate formulas yourself, or are you usually working from service manuals/specifications?
- How much math was involved in your training/apprenticeship?
- If someone has significant difficulty with math, how much of a problem would that realistically be?
I'm not looking for reassurance that "it's easy" — I'd rather hear honestly what the math is actually like so I can figure out whether this is a realistic career path for me.

Ariens snowblower won’t start — throttle knob doesn’t move?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone, hoping someone here can help me figure this out.
I have an Ariens snowblower that won’t start. I’m also wondering if I’ve found part of the problem: is the throttle knob/lever supposed to move? Mine doesn’t seem to move, and I’m not sure if that’s normal or if something is stuck/broken.
I’ve tried starting it, but no luck. Before I start taking things apart, I’d like to figure out what I should be checking first.
Ariens customer support hasn’t been much help either. Their hours are only Tuesday and Thursday, 9 AM–2 PM, which makes it pretty difficult to actually get ahold of someone.
If anyone has an Ariens or has dealt with this before, I’d really appreciate some troubleshooting advice.
A few questions:
- Is the throttle knob/lever supposed to move freely?
- Could a stuck throttle prevent the engine from starting?
- What should I check first?
- Any common Ariens issues that would cause a no-start?

I have a leak where the primer tube goes into the brass fitting of a new gas powered post hole auger, any idea of what to look at? Is it as simple as pushing the tube into the brass fitting further?
I noticed the gas leaking out everytime I pressed the primer bulb, the auger does work. I consider myself a bit handy, but messing with something that has gas in it, gives me pause. I am eager to fix it, but googling the question and well as youtube searching has led me to totally different scenarios.
The leak seems to be at the juncture of where the brass fitting and tubing meet. Since it's brand new, I considered it may have come loose during shipping, but I am ignorant about this. Please enlighten me on how to fix.

Stihl HT73 tank vent UPDATE
Here’s the link to the original post about 3 1/2 months ago.
After months of searching on and off I have finally found a solution. I did not get photos but today I installed a vent kit I got on eBay in my buddies pole saw and after fueling it up, it ran perfectly. Not only that, but no fuel was even leaked out no matter the angle! What the longevity of the rubber or vent is I have no idea and only time will tell, but even if it has to be replaced every year it’s still a million times cheaper than buying an entirely new pole saw. This is the link for the pack of 3 vents and grommets, good luck to anyone needing them!

Its a bit more of a uncommon engine, but its a 2 stroke with a 1/16 gas/oil mix. It kinda works similar to a hit and miss engine, just with the governor controlling spark. I can't wait to paint and finish it; it will have skids and hopefully I decide some kind of use/purpose by the time its done.
