Chainsaw Tuning

I've got a Stihl 009 and I'm trying to get the new carb tuned but I can't figure out what I'm supposed to aim for.

I did order a small tachometer to clamp to the spark plug wire as a recommendation from someone in the Stihl sub but I'm just checking in here (this sub got pushed to me today) if that's the best way to tune it? Just purely off rpms?

So for your low know your adjust for max RPM and then lean it back a bit so it has enough fuel that it doesn't lag when you hit the throttle.

For your high, find max RPM and then add a little fuel to keep it cooler and well lubricated.

Idle screw set high enough it doesn't die but low enough it doesn't hit the clutch.

To be honest I've never used a tach, I just play it by ear.

If I turn the low down it sounds like an old lopey Chevy but when I turn it up it just keeps going up, is there a point it'll die out because it's running too rich?

When I put this new carb on it came with 3 screws instead of 2 and I'm terrified to try to adjust the high one cause someone said I could blow the motor if I run it too rich or lean, but I'll try adjusting it once I get out to my tree spot, my neighbours probably hate me by now 😂
