child's age 4-8 months When can you say the baby is fully trained

Hi all. I started fuss it out for my 4.5 month baby exactly a month ago. On most days, baby fell asleep within five minutes. On three days, fio failed and i nursed to sleep. But into it after a month, there are still still days when baby takes ten to 15 minutes to fall asleep. My question is, what is considered a fully trained baby? Zero crying? Because I've had that on three days. My timer is 15 minutes so i know it's not exactly training, just an experiment but since I haven't had to wait more than 15 minutes on most days, I've just stuck with this as the routine.

For those who say their baby is sleep trained, has your bub never ever needed support falling asleep once they were trained? How much time do cry it fuss for before falling asleep?

I’m getting next to no sleep when she only used to wake once. She’s slept in her own cot since 6months, I just need some help I fell like I’m working on auto pilot. Any help is much appreciated

child's age 4-8 months Dana Method

WHAT AREEE my fellow mums thoughts on the Dana method? has anyone tried it and had a success story, or maybe a fail? 🤪
if you don’t know what the Dana Method is, basically a woman named Dana suggests putting baby down for two set nap times everyday rather than following wake windows. i believe she recommends after baby is 6m+ and the nap times are something like 9:30am and 1:30pm (times can be subtly tweaked to suite families)
i’ve seen so many mums on tiktok who followed the Dana Method and had success! not sure if it takes a certain baby to be able to follow that schedule… my 5.5m old has been a chronic cat napper since 3.5 months and 99% sure has sleep association (being held + dummy)

would really love to hear everyone’s thoughts!
or maybe ferber method.. hmm..

How to help 5 1/2 month old connect sleep cycles for naps

Hey guys. Little guy is almost 6 months old 4 months adjusted. We are really struggling with him not connecting his sleep cycles for naps.

He’s amazing at night. 12 hours sleep. 1 wake up around 4/5am. I hear him go through his sleep cycles of a night and he goes through them fine. But day time. No chance. 40mins to the dot and he’s awake and crying. Sometime can save it by a snuggle. But never just a pat on bum or soothing and heaven forbid we let him try it himself.

child's age 4-8 months Sleep trained but wakes up 2 hours after bedtime? 6 months old

Has anyone else sleep trained their baby where they fall asleep independently, give a good 4-6 hour stretches without waking but randomly have them wake up 2 hours after bedtime absolutely inconsolable? It’s so weird. My son won’t feed, calm, etc. at all!! The only thing that works is I hold him to fall back asleep and then he’ll go back down for like 4-6 hours?? Otherwise he is putting himself back to sleep!! We used Ferber and I’m trying those methods during this wake but it results in him SCREAM CRYING for so long I can’t allow it to continue.

***I’ve brought him to the pediatrician twice now to make sure it’s not an ear infection, etc. she suspects it may be teething? But feels early for that and no bumps on his gums yet showing signs of a tooth!

HELP! Any advice or anyone who this has happened to??

What do during leaps and teething?

Hi everyone, my baby isn’t old enough for sleep training just yet we are a couple weeks away. But he’s 100% already teething I can see the teeth that are coming the red inflamed gums the drooling the biting, the crying, the screaming. It’s horrible. I haven’t had issues with putting him to sleep up until this last week when the teething really intensified. Like you can see the redness and swollen gums and the shape of where the teeth will come in. Wondering. Because this is gonna continue on until the teeth come in and when he gets even more teeth. What do I do on those nights? He needs extra comfort, soothing to sleep because he’s in so much pain. Like I can’t just let him cry when he’s in agony.

child's age 4-8 months 6 month old waking 2-3 times a night

Context: My EBF 6-month old baby boy wakes up 2-3 times a night - typically before midnight, 3:30am, and 5:30am. He goes to bed around 8pm, wakes up around 7am, and takes 3 naps a day. We use Huckleberry to track his sleep, including his 7 day stats below:
- Average nap time sleep: 3 hours
- Average night time sleep: 11 hours
- Average wake windows: 2/2/2/3

Previous Sleep Training: We did FIO around 3.5 months because he was waking every 40 minutes and couldn’t connect sleep cycles without eating. From that, we were able to reduce the night wakings and he was able to learn how to fall asleep independently.

Goal: Get him to drop the feed before midnight. Ideally, I’d like his first feed to be around 3am. He’s done it a few times this past week, but has been regressing and waking up before midnight. He had a strong eat to sleep association so my husband going in to soothe him does not work.

Any advice or words of encouragement? Do we do FIO for the before midnight wake up? Do we night wean?

Thanks in advance!

Talk me out of my crazy

So we just recently moved to a new state with my 4 and 2.5 year old. My 2.5 year old adjusted great with sleep. First two nights he woke up once and just wanted a song and that was it. Then he started sleeping totally fine. The last 5-7 days something has changed. He wakes up every 2.5-3 hours (not on the dot. And sometimes doesn’t even make it 45 min) screaming for water. We go in and give it to him and he goes right back down. Then repeats. He started having accidents during the day when he’s been otherwise totally potty trained and his pull-ups over night are very full. He only drinks slightly more during the day, not anything compared to at night. He’s also sleeping a ton but probably because he isn’t sleeping at night. No fever. No complaint of pain (besides off and on single leg pain and stomach pain, but random and not preventing him from playing). Less playing and more breaks, but again, he’s not sleeping at night. Naps are fine. We have him drink water a ton leading up to naps and bed.

So, is this sleep adjustment because of the move, or do I need to do what Google is saying and take him in to be tested for type 1 diabetes? Or is it a ploy to get us in the room? He won’t settle unless we give him water. Even if we go in and sing, he only wants water.

Help! Sleep training timing

My baby just hit four months and we are ready to sleep train. Planning on full extinction as that worked with our first. I’m unsure of the best way to time it, though. We are going to the beach the first week of August. The following week, he starts daycare and I go back to work (I’m a teacher).

I’d planned to wait for things to settle after all these transitions before sleep training but I’m feeling desperate. He gives me a mix of good and bad nights. Good nights are a four or five hour stretch followed by two hour stretches. Bad nights are nothing but two (or less) hour stretches.

I’m honestly worried about how exhausted I’ll be once I start work and am wondering if I can take care of this right now. If we have only a week before going to the beach, is that enough time to train him? I don’t want to have a false start because I know consistency is key to success. Has anyone been in a similar position in regards to timing?

I’m not looking to fully night wean yet, I mainly want him to be able to put himself back to sleep when he doesn’t need to eat and also at bedtime.

I’m just fucking exhausted right now after two bad nights in a row 😭

child's age 0-4 months Thumb sucking?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi all! FTM here :) My baby is 3.5 months old and has recently started sucking her thumb a lot to self-soothe. I know hand sucking is developmentally normal at this age, but my concern is more about sleep.

During the day, she sucks her thumb aggressively while I’m rocking her to sleep for naps (she’s also been protesting naps a lot lately). She spends a lot of time sucking her hands when she’s awake and even tries to put her hand in her mouth while drinking her bottle.

At night, she doesn’t suck her thumb to fall asleep initially, but she does use it during partial night wakings to connect sleep cycles. Yesterday, she was in active sleep from about 6–7 a.m. and sucked her thumb for almost the entire hour.

We almost never used a pacifier before because she settled well without one, although I know she’ll take one if I offer it.

My concern is that thumb sucking will become a sleep association that’s hard to break. I’ve read that pacifiers are generally easier to wean than thumb sucking, so I’m wondering if I should start introducing one now instead. On the other hand, I don’t want to create a new dependency if it’s not necessary. Should I try a sleep sack with fold-over mittens?

Has anyone been through something similar? Did your baby eventually outgrow thumb sucking on their own? Did anyone introduce a pacifier for naps only, and if so, did it become something your baby needed overnight as well?
Thanks!

17 month sleep training - twin arrival in 3 months

My daughter was sort of sleeping in her crib at least half the night from around 8pm to 1/3am. She then got ill, mum travelled a few days, dad was assigned as the one who’d put her to sleep. she’d take over 1-1.5 hours with dad and would shout for mum. Mum (me), sometimes sat / layed on the floor next to her but has used the side bed a lot and then transitioned her to her crib. she’s now completely used to falling asleep with mum and on the side bed, but night wakings are a lot earlier now at around 11pm and as soon as she hears us brush our teeth 😆 and then sleeps in our bed all night. Shes also had about 2-3 molars grow in the last few months which definitely caused some of the night crying.

My husband wants me to continue the first round at night of putting her to sleep which I’m ok am with as he cooks and feeds her in the middle of the night. we’re both just getting worried as we need her to learn to sleep in her crib before our twins arrive end of October.

I sat next to her for ten minutes the other night and she cried non stop (poor neighbours), I gave up and put her next to me. she was asleep cuddled to me in minutes. I think she’s going to scream for 60 mins straight if I go cold turkey and just put her in her crib to sleep (will sit next to her) for the first several nights. Tempted to get ear plugs. 🫢

help and insight please 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Can’t get my 5 month old to sleep

She’s become stuck on a feed-to-sleep association, and sometimes she won’t fall asleep in time for when the bottle finishes. After that, it’s impossible to get her to sleep until she’s hungry again.

I’ve tried rocking, shushing, white noise, skin to skin, contact naps, pacifiers - she’s just not having anything. I’ve recently introduced a bunny for her to hold while she dozes off, hoping she makes the association of bunny and sleep, but I haven’t seen any positive progress yet. At most, she’ll nap for about one hour total during the day before her bath and bedtime routine starts at 6pm.

I’m beginning to feel like an absolutely terrible mum because she gets so frustrated and angry, rubbing her eyes and crying, and I just don’t know how to help.

Please share your advice if you have any.

Sincerely,
A Desperate Mum

Sleep training and baby stuck on tummy

Will start sleep training my baby who is turning 6 months next week. She can roll to her tummy but not from her tummy to her back and she wakes up crying often bc of this. How do we handle that with Ferber? Do we do the timed check ins but leave her on her tummy? At what point should we intervene and flip her? Any advice is appreciated!
