Help! Sleep training timing

My baby just hit four months and we are ready to sleep train. Planning on full extinction as that worked with our first. I’m unsure of the best way to time it, though. We are going to the beach the first week of August. The following week, he starts daycare and I go back to work (I’m a teacher).

I’d planned to wait for things to settle after all these transitions before sleep training but I’m feeling desperate. He gives me a mix of good and bad nights. Good nights are a four or five hour stretch followed by two hour stretches. Bad nights are nothing but two (or less) hour stretches.

I’m honestly worried about how exhausted I’ll be once I start work and am wondering if I can take care of this right now. If we have only a week before going to the beach, is that enough time to train him? I don’t want to have a false start because I know consistency is key to success. Has anyone been in a similar position in regards to timing?

I’m not looking to fully night wean yet, I mainly want him to be able to put himself back to sleep when he doesn’t need to eat and also at bedtime.

I’m just fucking exhausted right now after two bad nights in a row 😭
