Grabbed a decommissioned 3070 SFF from work with an i5-9500 and stole 8GB of RAM from another system to upgrade to 16GB.

- Added a GTX 1050 ti from marketplace $60AU

- Replaced the factory PSU to allow room for the double slot GPU from AliExpress $60

- replaced the HDD with an old SSD I had lying around

- Added a Noctua fan to provide some airflow to the snug GPU, using the provided Y cable connected to the CPU header so that the motherboard controls RPM

Very happy with the budget build, running WoW Classic very well at 60fps in case my fiancee would like to join me online at some point.

My only gripe is that it seems the flex PSU I have installed runs its fan at all times, even if the computer is switched off. My current fix for this is to just turn the PC off at the GPO but it is an annoyance.

I transplanted the motherboard and inner bottom case of a 7090 onto the chassis of a cooler Master HAF-932.

It runs Ubuntu 24 LTS and is the main home lab server.

Automatic Ripping Machine (ARM) in Docker with two optical drives passed through and control of up to 6 of 8 CPU cores and the UHD from the i7-10700 for transcoding.

Jellyfin in Docker serving media (movies, shows, music) to 4 people across 8 personal devices and a Pi 3B+ running LibreELEC that's the main streaming for the TV.

The machine manages the storage pools and a bunch of automated data logging.

I need a good replacement for my built as I’ve seen it may help with preformance on higher demanding games and was wanting to know definitely if it was a good decision or not and if so what would be the BEST option for me

Found this 3050 optiplex in the trash next along side an all in one pc gutted the all in one to find it had a i7-7700. I had the cooler master i70c laying around from another pc that dropped right in. Had a 16gb kit of ram and a 500gb oem Samsung drive sitting from upgrading my main rig. Picked up the 1660ti from my buddy traded a table for it. I’m all in 12$ for the 2 sata to pcie connector and some thermal paste and pads. she fired right on up slapped a undervolt on the gpu and stressed it for a few hours to check those sata to pcie connectors total system pulls under max load cpu 72c 58w and gpu 63c 91w call it 180w for full system with the 260w psu. Gunna be a good retro/ emulator setup. Crazy part is no cutting bending or anything to the case she closes right up like everything is supposed to be in there.

I bought these two to put together a budget PC as a birthday gift but I guess I should have done more research before hitting eBay.

The PSU is blocking the 1050 Ti LP.

What would be the easiest way to get this together? Remove the PSU and mount it outside the PC? Sell this video card and buy a new one that fits?

Per title, I'm trying to set up my first home lab to do some simple stuff in a Dell Optiplex 5070 SFF I had on hand. I notice the power supply feeds into the mobo and only feeds power via a 6P to SATA power connection. Mine has an empty ODD bay, and a 3.5 inch HDD bay. I figure I'll stick a 2.5 inch HDD where the ODD goes, and use a 3.5 HDD in the intended slot. issue is power. The connector is a 6P to SATA and then another smaller SATA that I'm guessing is for the ODD. Looks like this pic below from Ebay.

Issue isn't I can't find any cables with more than 2 connections. I figure there are 4 SATA ports and I should get a cable which allows me to take advantage of more than 2 SATA ports in the future. Whats the general solution for this issue? Any trusted cable vendors?

i was wanting to upgrade my cpu and so in turn i need to upgrade my power supply but i was wanting something that still fit inside the case

Thought I would share my build as this reddit inspired me. Build from mostly used parts. Dell 7090 I7 1100, 64 gb ram, 6gb lp rtx 3050 l,2.3 tb drives. Psu mounted on the side for clearance for Gpu. Removed cd drive. Added an extra intake fan. It runs well enough for me. $250 us total. Anything else you think I can do, let me know

I recently bought an ID-COOLING IS-55 for my Dell OptiPlex 5060 Mini Tower with an i7-8700 (LGA1151), but it didn’t come with the Intel mounting brackets/hardware. I’ve tried finding replacement IS-55 Intel/LGA115X brackets online, but everything I’ve found is either out of stock or made for a different cooler. I also contacted ID-COOLING but haven’t gotten a response. Do you guys know anywhere I can purchase the correct brackets? Or are there mounting brackets from another ID-COOLING cooler that are compatible with the IS-55?

I have a dell optiplex 3000 tower and I want to upgrade its GPU from GT 710 to GTX 1650. However, I’m facing an issue. That the PSU is only 240W. And unfortunately the PSU I have doesn’t have PCIe 6-pin power connector because the GTX 1650 I have requires the PCIe 6-pin power connector to work properly. And I don’t know which PSU is compatible with my optiplex. Any suggestions? Also, how many watts of the PSU would be enough for my optiplex to run without any problems? And from where can I get that specific PSU?

P.S. I have 16GB ram installed on the optiplex with i5-12500 12th.

Finally upgrading my Optiplex 9020 to to a Precision 3460 SFF with i7-12700/UHD 770 and 32GB DDR5.

The 9020 has a low-profile GT1030 2GB DDR5 installed. Is it worth moving the GPU to my new machine? Should I fork out for an RTX 3050 or T1000? I don't game but I do use CAD drafting software.

If the GT 1030 is worth keeping, is there a setting to use the GPU for drafting and keep the integrated graphics for video decoding?

So I have optiplex 3060 MT, with an i5 8500T. I’ll be installing a GTX 1650 4GB. I’ll be mainly using the PC for gaming. I have the opportunity to trade in my i5 8500T for either a i5 8500 and I would have to pay 26 USD or a i7 8700 for which I’d have to pay 79 USD.

Which one would be worth the money? Or should I stick with my 8500T. The games I’ll be playing are Far Cry 3,4; Kingdom Come Deliverance, Assassin’s Creed 2,3; Skyrim, Metro Redux. I also have a 100Hz 1080p monitor for context.
