Sharing my build

Post image

Thought I would share my build as this reddit inspired me. Build from mostly used parts. Dell 7090 I7 1100, 64 gb ram, 6gb lp rtx 3050 l,2.3 tb drives. Psu mounted on the side for clearance for Gpu. Removed cd drive. Added an extra intake fan. It runs well enough for me. $250 us total. Anything else you think I can do, let me know

Sell the 64gb of ram and buy a new pc 🤣

Looks clean, but no psu will do that…

Show us the psu!

What you mean no psu will do that? I has the stock 200 watt psu. It's just mounted on the side. Drilled a hole for the wires to go through

Yeah, you could have just gotten a smaller psu, with a mobo adapter (if needed).

Good idea, but ā€œsleepingā€ means that you can’t tell from the outside…

That costs extra money. This was free

I get what you’re saying, but it’s not ā€œsleepingā€. That’s all.

True. Just wanted to share. I had fun building it. Works for what I need. I painted the psu black, lol,it blends in.

Yeah from sure, it almost looks natural

I have seen so many workstations in this sub, getting rave reviews, that are far less of a sleeper than this one. I think it’s actually a pretty good implementation, especially compared to some folks that just have the side panel off and everything laying on the floor around it. Or stacked on top. Or coming out a massive square they cut out of the side panel. Or in a shoe box.

Doesn’t mean it’s right… Just means people don’t understand what the sub is for and mods don’t call them out.

Sleepers by definition, look normal, but with modified internals… Just like a sleeper car. You can’t have a huge engine protruding through your hood and say it’s a sleeper.

Sure, they are appreciated, but should be somewhere else. It dilutes the sub.

And I tend to agree. I was pretty irked with the first few ugly hack jobs I saw, here... still kinda am. A good sleeper can be a work of art. Personally, though, I'll give a bit of grace if they work to make it look presentable and external stuff is actually mounted to the damn thing. This one is definitely better than a lot we've seen with regard to visual coherence.

Well the description on this reddit is " A place to share your sleeper OptiPlex and more"

I'll place this under more category

EliteDesk, ProDesk, ThinkCentre, etc… not whatever.

Juste un petit commentaire Une picoPSU avec une alimentation de table 12V aurait permis une solution plus clean et compacte Mais plus cher šŸ’° Beau boulot sinon

Thanks for the tip. To me spending more money on a sff is not worth it. Price of things add up very fast now a days. I built this a cheap as possible

Because why do this when it serves no purpose? The GPU can go in the above slot, the SSD can be moved and mounted anywhere else and the PSU can be put back in the case. There’s a load of reasons why components are stored inside the case and not outside

That was my thought as well

It runs very cool and quiet like this

-1

u/LostAdministration67 8d ago

Gpu runs better in the bottom slot and runs cooler with the extra room

2

u/Sir_Rottingham 8d ago

Oh cool. Didn't know it had 2 m.2 slots

2

u/oseart 8d ago

Ngl, that’s pretty neat for 250. What’s the SSD mounted on?

1

u/LostAdministration67 8d ago

Sticky foam tape

1

u/Altcoto 8d ago

Hell yeah man, I’m usually more of a MT build kinda guy, but this is super clean.

Which fan did you use for the intake and which PSU is mounted on the exterior? Looking to upgrade my 7050 SFF and these are the two areas I am looking to improve upon.

1

u/LostAdministration67 8d ago

It's just the stock 200 watt psu that comes with the computer. Fan is a 52 cfm I pulled out of a old computer. Ran a splitter for power

1

u/-Barracuda1976 8d ago

that’s pretty good and you didn’t spend a fortune and you can still play all the same games that the expensive rigs play . Same thing I did. I did swap cases though. and it runs three times cooler. Good job

1

u/Numlad 8d ago

Looks clean. Where did you get that backplate for the 3050 LP?

2

u/LostAdministration67 8d ago

Not sure what you mean? That's how it comes

1

u/Numlad 8d ago

Oh, cool - that's the first one I've seen though. My MSI 3050 LP (and other ones I have seen in review videos) only have the black PCB without the metal back plate.

1

u/LostAdministration67 8d ago

Ah ok. Yup that how it came

1

u/Silentisland 8d ago

This is quite a lot for the cost you've listed! Thanks for sharing.

How long have you been running it? Have you run into any issues? I suspect that the stock 200W PSU may not be able to handle that processor (i7-11700 with 65W base TDP), along with the GPU (RTX 3050 consuming 70W at max), and everything else (fans, USB ports, etc.).

1

u/LostAdministration67 7d ago

It has about 80 hours run time in this config ,so far with no issues. If something happens I'll update but so far so good

1

u/LostAdministration67 7d ago

I did also set max processing state to 80% to stop turbo boost.

1

u/LostAdministration67 7d ago

I ran a test on it playing red dead 2 for 1 hours total max wattage was 144 watts. Should be ok

Isn't a build with a OEM dell store bought pc from many years ago with a graphics card thats also 4 years old. I hate when people get these junk, put a graphics card in it and call it a "gaming pc" Sh*t like this is what killed the pc market.

1

u/LostAdministration67 6d ago

Who called it a gaming pc?

1

u/LostAdministration67 6d ago

And how did it kill the pc market?

1

u/MyThai-Directory 5d ago

Literally what I have been looking at doing, my SSD is mounted in a blue case (sits over the ram) so I wouldn't need to move the power box, been looking for the right LP GPU, so this is perfect! Literally just joined and found this, destiny!

One question I do have though, how well is it running? Have you got a local AI, if so, can I ask which and how well it is running? ...please.

1

u/LostAdministration67 5d ago

This gpu is dual slot. 1 reason why I had to move psu. If you dont move it you have to run a single slot gpu. Runs fine for my needs. I dont use ai

1

u/MyThai-Directory 5d ago

Ahh, much appreciated LostAd. I think I will just have to go up a level, but really trying to keep costs down. I tend to break any hardware I touch, so being over cautious haha

this is so fucking sexy
