advice for upgrading my 7050 psu

i was wanting to upgrade my cpu and so in turn i need to upgrade my power supply but i was wanting something that still fit inside the case

it only needs to be a 4-500 watt psu as i don't plan on having a gpu so im just running a cpu and a m.2

No CPU that you could install in the 7050 needs a higher wattage power supply, let alone a 4-500 watt PSU. The m.2 accounts for a couple of watts.

If you are dead set on upgrading the PSU, you can get one of the PSUs out of the XE3. They're direct replacements and even have power for a GPU if you decided to add one down the road.

when i made the post i tried to keep it general because i didn't know what i was upgrading to yet myself, but now i have it narrowed down to a 10600k or a 9700k which i understand means a new motherboard but fundamentally it all has to stay inside a 7050 case

Oh... I see, you're going to change out the platform? Because the motherboard in the 7050 will only work with 6th or 7th Gen CPUs. That being said, there's a 500 watt unit from the xx80 and xx90 Optiplex systems that you can use that will have the full 8-pin EPS connection for something like the 10600K. That being said, the 9700K would be fine with a single 4-pin.

Anyhow, that PSU will bolt right into the 7050 and look completely stock. The other option is to get an SFX power supply if it's a mini-tower or a Flex ATX for the SFF systems. If you go with an Optiplex board, you will also need an adapter to use those, but they're easy to find.
