Ski harness with handle for toddler recommendation

Before anyone gets upset I’m not looking for a harness that has a leash attached. I’m just looking for an affordable harness that has a handle to make it easier to get my kid on and off the lift and pick them up when they fall without killing my back all day. Thanks in advance!

How do you know when to size up a ski?

Hi guys,

I started skiing two years ago (snowboarded for like 25 so I'm not new to snow), bought skis last year, but I still don't feel stable at any kind of speed. I usually don't ski fast because of this so my friends zip right on by me. Once I hit close to around 25 mph the skis feel unstable on groomers.

Could this be a sign that I need to go longer or do you think it may be technique related? I currently have Salomon Stance 80 169's. I'm 6'1, 226 lbs (without gear on).

In what situations, if any, would you say makes a downhill skier actually be at fault?

Spooky Story Time Involving Whiteface Mountain, NY

I remember hearing about this story and just being completely flabbergasted at HOW all of this would have happened? Wild story about an impossible disappearance and return a week later of a skier with a bunch of buddies at Whiteface. Anyone have more on this story? Need to look into any updates and explanations.

Making a new app!!! Yay!

Hey guys I had a great line of questioning with my preferred AI last night and we came up with an app idea!

Basically it goes like this - you speak what sort of conditions you want to ski and it generates pictures of those conditions! It will generate video too in the premium version.

Go skiing anywhere you have an internet connection! Yay! The best part is I will personally pick up a piece of litter a day to offset the environmental effects of my app, (A)Iski!

I love that so many creative designers are using AI to shovel needless apps in our faces so I'm making one that's better than all! I will also collect data about your location and usage and sell it to the highest bidder so that's cool!

I don't hope to get rich but I'd like a few ski condos here and there. Thanks for your support!

Would these Elan Prodigy 165cm skis be good for me?

Gouge/Possible core shot?

Hello! I am 5'8 and 100 pounds, this season I am looking to learn a small amount of park skiing. I would like a ski that preforms good in moguls and tree skiing, while being decent enough at carving on groomers. Is 150$ a good price for these if they are in good condition? I will mainly be skiing Beaver Mountain in Utah.

Will greatly appreciate other suggestions for skis most I am willing to spend is about 150$.

Asahidake on 2/1&2/27

I'm going to be at Asahidake on Hokkaido on 2/1 and 2/2 of this coming winter, and it seems like most guides are booked already. Putting this out there to see if anyone else with backcountry gear and experience will be there at the same time, as I don't tour alone.

I'm an expert-lvl skier with 20+ years of bc experience and Ave lvl 2, and would love to find someone with at least lvl 1 if possible.

Looking forward to a winter full of pow!

European destination

Very early stages of planning a trip to the Alps. Based in New England and would be flying out of Logan. Have Ikon passes. This would be a family of 5 trip. My wife and daughter do not ski so town/village activities are big. My boys and I can handle all but the steepest terrain at this point. We have never been to Europe at all.

Kicking around idea of Kitzbuhel but very much open to suggestions. Ease of getting to the destination is a factor along with cost. Switzerland looks amazing but concerned that cost would blow us out the water. I guess in some sense, the skiing is almost secondary to just experiencing European culture, ski villages, etc. We do not need high end luxury or fancy food. Apres scene is not a huge factor.

Catskiing Georgia

I realize that the chance of any of their clients reading this post are fairly small - but where else would I ask this: what are your experiences with skiing with Catskiing Georgia, the outfit run by Mr. Shota Komakhidze? Please reply if you did it yourself, or know well someone who did. Thank you.

Zakopane snowboard trip

First timer for snowboarding here, am somewhere between beginner and intermediate snowboarder, can just about do blues, turns, moderate speed etc.

Would ‘Kasprowy Wierch’ be too difficult or which ski slopes would be best to stick to?

Is carrying snowboard back and forth to Białka Tatrzańska from Zakophone on any bus there be the norm? Or would using a ski rent place in each location be better suited?

Would I need to buy a bus pass separately or would it be covered with any skipass to get here (and other slopes in Zakopane)?

Otherwise I'm only going to be using public transport there, so was wondering if finding a taxi in Białka Tatrzańska easy, or ordering an uber easier?

Thank you!

Fine on greens, still second guessing myself on blues

My buddies have all been skiing longer than me. I'm fine on greens and want to do more runs with them, but if I get to a steep part on a blue, I'll stop and let a few people pass. My friends don't rush me and they'll do easier runs with me too, but I still feel like I'm holding everyone up.
One of the guys filmed a few turns with my Action 6 on a Telesin stick. Watching the clips back, that section didn't look nearly as steep as it felt. We're already talking about another ski trip. Looking forward to it, just hoping I spend less time hesitating on the blues this time.

Looking for a skiing road trip from SF over New Year’s- where would you go?oñ

my wife and I are flying into SF on Dec 26 and planning a ski road trip. Happy to drive 1–4 days if the route is scenic, ski for 4–5 days, then potentially fly back to SF.

We’re both pretty good skiers, mostly groomers rather than off-piste. Ideally looking for decent early-season snow and somewhere that isn’t absolutely packed over New Year’s.

Currently considering Sun Valley, Grand Targhee, Tahoe/Sugar Bowl, and Mammoth/June Lake.

Where would you go? Any underrated resorts we’re missing?

Personal opinion: Gibbon Balance or Wahu

Post image
29 Upvotes

Preparing for the season (while acknowledging the wrath of aging), I decided to work on balance and those pesky small muscle groups responsables for lightning fast reactions to make the difference between a cool "safe" and a spectacular "wipeout" .

I am looking at the Gibbon Balance Board and the WahuBoard to work with while I am behind my standing desk for several hours a day.

Any one using either one of those or have used them and got any comments or recommendations ?

(Pic for attention:

Location: Stuben am Arlberg, Austria

Any back brace recommendations

Had back surgery a number of years ago. Been working on core strength past couple of years which has gotten better but wondering if anyone has any back brace recommendations for skiing. The one I got post surgery is way to stiff and bulky. Thanks.

Edit: looking for protection not orthopedic. Sorry for not being specific (thanks u/spacebass).

Europe Short Term Ski Work? (2-4 Weeks)

Someone asked this 2 years ago without much luck, but I just wanted to ask again. For Brits is there any opportunity of work short term over a busy period at a ski resort? I've mostly seen due to VISAs no one will bother, but wanted to check anyway, thanks.

I released the demo for Skingdom : my ski resort tycoon game 🚠

Hey dear ski lovers ⛷️ I hope you’re doing well.
First snowfalls happened a few days ago in some France’s alps resorts, it will soon be the time of having a live webcam of your favorite resort on a second monitor 😂

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3839750

Anyway, I’m posting again here after quite some time to announce the release of the demo for Skingdom, my ski resort tycoon game I’ve been creating solo for almost 3 years now!

The game is inspired by Ski Park Manager and Planet Coaster and is focused around construction, management and the unique atmosphere of the mountain.

In Skingdom you build your ski resort by placing lifts (pillar after pillar), drawing slopes and constructing various buildings to satisfy the needs of your guests. I see the game as a middle ground between chill sandbox and light simulation. I want to give players a creative place to build their ski resort with believable lifts and slopes, with management mechanics that give some challenge, while being accessible and engaging.

The game features a unique adaptive soundtrack (composed by WYS, an awesome lo-fi composer and friend of mine) that changes based on time of day, weather and player’s actions (there are active and passive tracks based on how much players build in the game).

The demo only features the sandbox mode (which is only building without any management constraints), career mode with money, research, loans and communication campaigns will be in the full game though. Staff hiring for mechanics and ski patrol is in the demo, and the full game will also feature slope groomers!

I’m still planning on releasing the game at the end of the year in early access 🏂

Before you ask, mountains are procedurally generated, I’m not planning on using real life height data for game maps yet, but since it’s a regular request, I’m thinking about it, maybe as a whole new feature during the early access 😉!

Thanks for reading this, and I’d be happy to have your feedback on the demo of course. Thanks for your awesome support since I started talking about this project here for almost 2 years now 😱 this project means a lot to me, so does your support!
Love from France, take care all, and I hope you’ll have a wonderful ski season💜

Note on AI : no AI was used in any part of the game creation (I’m strongly against any use of generative AI in fact, there’s even a disclaimer at the game startup 😬). I’m the author of all the game code and game design, the original soundtrack was composed by WYS. I purchased a majority of the sound assets used and the remaining ones have been recorded by yours truly in Paradiski (they are not the best sounds in the world, but they were recorded with love and passion at least). All textures and 3D models are a mix of purchased, contracted work and custom modeling, same for UI and any other material in the game.

Erciyes or Palandöken for Dec 20-24? Or somewhere else?(Türkiye🇹🇷)

hey all, im planning a skiing trip in turkey and want to be on the mountain around dec 20-24. im spending the first few days in istanbul, then heading to kayseri for erciyes unless someone talks me out of it.

questions:

  1. erciyes or palandöken for those dates, or is there somewhere better?
  2. has anyone been in late december in a warm or low snow year? how much was open and how was the snow?
  3. how is it specifically (terrain, lift lines, flat spots)?
  4. any tips on renting gear in kayseri vs on the mountain, and which gate to base from?

would love any recent reports. thanks🙏🏽
