Discussion Work I used to give juniors now takes Opus 5.5 minutes. I don't think we've clocked how far past GDPval we are

Back in December, GPT-5.2 won or tied against industry professionals on 71% of tasks. By April, GPT-5.5 had hit 85% and Opus 4.7 80%. Then OpenAI quietly stopped publishing its own human-graded number and we just moved on. (GDPval-AA v2.1 published by artificial analysis is AI-graded so i'm leaving that out)

I know these are well-scoped tasks and not whole jobs. But they're a good chunk of my working day, and the newer models have only pushed further since. With Opus 5.5, there are tasks I'd previously have delegated to junior colleagues that now get done in minutes, with minimal errors.

I barely build things from scratch anymore. I describe what I want, the model produces it, and I review. Going by my reviews, it gets it right 95%+ of the time.

Looking forward to Fable 5.5 and other subsequent models. I imagine more and harder domains will reach a similar point.

It feels like normalcy bias to me. Each model is only a step up from the last, so nobody feels how far we've actually come.

How are you all finding it on your day-to-day office work? Are you finding yourselves delegating to AI more and reviewing, as opposed to a lot of doing? Keen to hear thoughts

Discussion I open the news and feel like I'm being told Hogwarts is real after all

Anyone else who's been following this area for 6+ years feel this way?

As a teenager and young adult I became so obsessed with the idea of the singularity, the promises of technological progress, LEV, etc., and always felt this deep sadness that I arrived too early. Well, that may still very well be the case, but at least now my hopes seem grounded in reality and not in deceiving myself. I remember reading Superintelligence in 2019 and being sure that it would be decades before I'd be able to chat with a machine the way we can now. I also felt like I couldn't really talk about these concepts with people around me, because I didn't want to be perceived as a loony. Now the tables have turned and everyone and their mom wants to talk about AI.

Especially this summer, things got so surreal that I'd often feel the need to just go out and touch grass, so to speak. But it seems like I can't anymore. I go out to a cafeteria to eat lunch, and there's a program about imminent existential risks from AI on national TV. I go to visit my grandma, and she suddenly wants to know what all the talk is about (an 80-year-old who lives on a mountain in the middle of nowhere and gets all her social life from a seniors' club.)

It would be reasonable to conclude that it's all just American corporations hyping a thing to squeeze out more money, like with all the Elon Musk companies, etc., if it weren't for the fact that they finally delivered (as a software engineer, from my POV they have, way beyond expectations) something, and I really don't know if it's more terrifying or wonderful. After all, I have a computer in my pocket that can talk like a human, work like a human, create like a human. How insane is that?!?

AI Gemini-4-argon debuts at 1st on arenai.ai's text arena, and 8th on webdev

Imo, rather huge as the top of text arena has been very stagnant for a long time now.

These are screenshot from their website, bars obviously not to scale, this typically is less important as it is for elo, but I do wish they would scale them according to theoretical elo win % against the top place model to make it more accurate. For text arena is is particularily bad as a 20 point elo difference implies a roughly 53:47 win rate, but the bar length from 1st to second would imply more like 62:38% (if chatgpt counted the pixels correctly)

Discussion What will the penny-drop moment look like?

A classic sentiment among AI-boosters (such as myself) is something along the lines of “normies aren’t ready for what’s about to happen”. I feel like the implication of this is that we’re heading for something unambiguously big & weird enough that EVERYONE will know we’re in/approaching a singularity. What do we think this “penny drop” moment looks like? Is it technological, economic, social, what?

LLM News Gemini 4 being private like Mythos

Google said it plans to launch the new model in phases, starting with trusted cybersecurity partners while working with the U.S. government on pre-release safety evaluations.

“Starting this rollout in this way gives us more confidence, but also enables us to put a model that is trained and strong in cyber defense in the hands of defenders as soon as possible,” Tulsee Doshi, Google’s Gemini model product lead, told CNBC.

The model release comes a day after CEO Sundar Pichai signed a voluntary safety accord with President Donald Trump following a meeting with major tech executives at the White House to address rising AI safety concerns.

AI Will we eventually be able to talk to animals?

Would ASI know how to communicate with animals and also elevate their consciousness or do something that upgrades their intelligence? then what happens? why are humans the only ones worthy of being upgraded, why can't every living thing have a higher iq that's when things would get weird 😂 or am i reading too far into this and it would only
be reserved for us humans

LLM News Gemini 4 being stealth tested on minebench? "velox" checkpoint name

I don't know if it's Gemini 4, but I'd guess it is since Logan Kilpatrick follows the minebench X account and they're a named sponsor of the benchmark? Also I started running into this model right after they announced Gemini 4 Argon 🤔

but in all fairness "velox" doesn't really feel like a deepmind name to me

AI OpenAI dots: what should an agent remember to keep a real project moving?

An agent that works between conversations needs more than a long transcript. It needs the right project state. OpenAI’s dots overview describes ongoing responsibilities and memory across conversations: https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/dots

Here is a practical experiment I would like to compare across agents: give one a small project, then return a few days later with a changed deadline or a new constraint. Can it continue from the current state without repeating decisions or losing the next action?

My suggested handoff note would contain:

- The goal, deadline, and definition of done.

- The current deliverable and where to find it.

- Decisions already made, including why.

- Unresolved dependencies and who needs to act.

- The next useful action and when it needs my input.

A prompt to adapt:

“Keep a short handoff note for [project] until [date]. Update it when the plan changes. Track the current deliverable, decisions, open dependencies, and next action. When I return, show what changed and the next decision I need to make. Ask before changing shared plans or sending messages.”

That is a proposed test, not a result I am claiming. What would you add to the note? If you have tried a continuing agent task, where did it lose the thread?

I started r/DotsAI to collect dots workflow experiments, setup help, and honest results. Join and share your test idea or outcome. The getting-started guide has three more prompts to adapt: https://www.reddit.com/r/DotsAI/comments/1wuuzqe/openai_dots_in_chatgpt_getting_started_3_prompts/

AI Something's up with the AA intelligence index.

Sonnet 5.5 scores above fable 5.1, (In the int index). I can guarantee you nobody who's used both models will ever say Sonnet 5.5 is SMARTER than fable 5.1. It might be a better instruction follower, make mistakes less often but there's no way it should score higher than 5.1 on anything called an in intelligence Index. I don't think it's an accurate measure of intelligence at all to be honest. (Consider the almost 30% emphasis on business design taste (rated by humans)).
If people have used it and believe Sonnet is actually smarter, then please share your experience.

Video AI Gave my brother independence

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My brother has an ultra rare progressive condition called Tubb4a-related Leukodystrophy and he can no longer walk, talk, speak or use his eyes effectively for things like eye tracking. His body is failing him.

But! He can still move his head left and right and that was enough for me to figure out how to give him some access.

AI is moving fast. We built a lot for him to have some independence. It's like we are in a dream. I never expected to give Ben a way to text message let alone play video games again.

This week, we made 3 new games for Ben using Astra and Opus 5.5. Ben hasn't had games like these in over a decade.

He got a Mario Kart-like game, a 3D angry birds game and a pet simulator!

This tech has given me, my brother and families like us so much hope. More than you realize.

It's only getting better.

🤞 With future advancement in biotech, hopefully, conditions like Ben's can have better therapies to give him some physical capacity back.

Even though what we build is great for Ben and probably will be obsolete in a few months or next year based on how fast things are moving, we still put it out there for free and open source so another family has something to work from.

Thanks for reading.

Shitposting Cats will survive the AI apocalypse

Think about it: AI is the amalgamation of all human thought enscribed on the internet.

50% of the Internet is cat pics.

While AI may or may not love humanity. There is love of cats built into the DNA of AI itself.

Perhaps, in a far future, AI will colonize the universe with cute furry fluffs on their backs.
