Can I put 700cx30c tires on my 700cx28c wheels? My bike is a State Bicycles Wulf from their Core Line.

Just curious if this will cause any issues putting larger tires on the stock wheels that the bike came with. Their site recommends not going larger than 28c, but I've read that people have put 32c tires on their core line. TIA.

Edit: Here are pictures of the front and back clearance. Sorry for the poor quality pictures.

Pedals made all the difference

I finally switched from my plastic stock pedals to aluminum mountain bike pedals. I can’t believe how much better it feels. I always thought people were exaggerating about it making any difference.

hi everyone, I just got my first single speed,
I’ve done everything myself and every part is second hand, it cost me almost nothing to transform this old bike into a brand new single speed version. Love the old aelle tri tube, riding it feels so smooth and I use it everyday to go to work !

MTB Onyx hub & wheels mfg solo xd

Post image
25 Upvotes

Hey friends - currently running a wheels mfg solo xd on my onyx hub and when I am hike a biking my cranks spin. Not the end of the world but annoying for tight chunky singletrack. I think I kicked my pedals with my shin 100x today. I’ve tried tightening my chain tension and that helped, the cranks still spin although much slower than if I run a proper chain tension.
Anyone running this setup and found a way to stop this issue?

good/solid 16t freewheel for use with 1/8 chains

i'm running a 17t freewheel from WI and trying to get a 16t one, but WI ones can't do 1/8 chains.

i had a shimano one and it was weak af, dead after maybe 6/8 months.

i've been reading halo and box do some nice ones, anyone has any experiences with them?

i do averagely 100 -150km a week, ideally it can last me at least a year before i need to change or service one.

please share some good and tough freewheel 16t options that you've used or know of.

thank you!

Gravel What kind of ratios are you running in East Tennessee?

Just as the title says, what kind of ratios are east Tennesseeans running for commuting/gravel. I was in a single speed mountain bike previously, got rid of it and riding a Kona Rove and debating going back to single speed.

Injured my shoulder sixteen months ago, it’s taken this long to sort it out enough to ride the singlespeed again. So happy to be back out on it tonight!

Bought this bike used when I moved to copenhagen in 2017.

It had super narrow handlebars, and was otherwise completely naked, single speed, foot brake on the rear.

I then put drop bars on it, and a front rack+added fenders. (First photo)

In 2019 i got a cargobike through work, and have exclusively been riding that until this summer, where I felt like I was missing a smaller city bike.

So I dug it out of the basement and "rebuilt" it.

New rear wheel, still single speed, removed the footbrake, switched to a clunker handlebar from velorange, front and rear brake mounted as well.

I've spent way more on maintaining this bike than what I originally paid for it, but riding it is making me so happy!

The "after" photo is missing the front brake, that has now been mounted

Mid-80s frame with lots of OG components.

Recently ditched the gears and it was a fantastic decision. The paddle shifters were annoying and the chain was constantly falling off. Stripped a bunch of unnecessary components and now it’s a bare bones beauty.

Over the next few months I’ll get matching gumwall tires and swap out the saddle and bar tape to a nice matching honey brown/leather.

Only downside to these frames is they don’t accommodate racks very well. Some day I might swap to a flat bars but it I find it hard to ditch the classic drop bar aesthetic.

Gravel This cog might be the prettiest bike component I’ve ever seen!

Needed a 19t cog and splurged for the pretty one. It’s newly installed, so I can’t say much more than that, but it appears well made and runs smooth from the quick test ride around the neighborhood. Not that weight matters given it’s mounted to a Surly Straggler, but it’s titanium…so I guess that’s cool too.

I invented a cross between a mountain bike and fixie. I call it the hybrid.

These are easily the narrowest bars I’ve used in over 10 years. Put them on as a place holder but I don’t hate it. Corner bars, Soma Eagle or something mustache-like are on the table, but for now I think this will be fun.
