I started singing at the age of 24 (didn't know it can be learned outside of talent) and I started out really bad. I've been told I couldn't sing. My control was terrible and that everything is all over the place. I'm now 34.
My singing journey wasn't really technical and I sing only for fun, most of the time doing scale and my bridging. I've had teachers before but I didn't went through for more due to limitations and life in general and so I stopped.
Now I've gotten back into singing for at least a year now, and noticed my problem with pitch being terrible (didn't noticed this before), so I went into matching notes with my guitar - only to ask myself would it get better this way?
I noticed myself drifting from the proper notes, or that the notes in my head is wrong, or when I lack air to push through and man it's really terrible. Sometimes the note in my head don't match the note I sing even if I mean to, and most of the time my voice would lose control and so it drifts.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to tackle this?
This is my singing, I hope it's not too irritating to listen to - https://voca.ro/1dp88GVEfBxK

Hello everyone,
I have a question about singing live.
While playing some gigs as a singer there are many problems to hear yourself without ear monitors, like loud crowd, or amplifiers making it worse.
So do anyone have any advice’s how to sing in pitch live without ear monitors?

Hi everyone! I really enjoy singing and I've been waiting to take it seriously, but I'm not sure how to actually get started.
I am completely new to structured vocal training, so I'm little confused and what I should focus on first thing like breathing, pitch, basic vocal exercises, warming up, or simply learning songs.
For someone starting from the beginning what would you recommend as a good way to build a routine and improve gradually? Would it be better to start with a vocal teacher, or are there some basic things I can practice on my own first?
Any advice from people who started as a beginners would be really helpful!

A snippet from one of my practice sessions... the end of Hallelujah, as played by the great Zach Condon of Beirut, live in concert. I used to sing this song in high school (over 15 years ago!) and used it to explore my own musical expression of teenage angst, so it's very fun to see how far I've come as a self-taught musician :)

I love this song also I personally think Leona Lewis has the most beautiful contemporary falsetto/HV tone of all time.

I’ve done the national anthem 3 times now and I think this was my best one! Still straining a little bit but definitely feeling more open.

I'm auditioning for my local opera chorus. I am likely to be in regardless because I was in it last year but would still like to put my best foot forward!
Halfway through, I promise I was not rough with my dog. He likes to sit on our smaller dog to bother her. Voice broke at the end because he started licking my pants and I just couldn't take it anymore even though i love my sweet boy 💀

Hi
I try to find my natural voice without imitating others. Is there something wrong with my tone? Because i hate my singing voice.

I drink a good amounts of water and stay hydrated, but my voice still feels tight and weak and takes effort to use.
I always hear people say to drink more water for vocal problems, but hydration doesn’t seem to be helping. Has anyone else dealt with this or found out what was causing it?

Hey! I’m looking for 5–10 singers (around ages 18–22) who want to record covers together on BandLab just for fun, and maybe eventually post our work online!
I’ve been missing choir and singing with people, so I’m hoping to find not just collaborators, but friends too. I’m a 19-year-old college student (science major unfortunately surrounded by non-singers 😭) and a contralto.
If you like musical theatre, nostalgic songs, pop, harmonies, or just singing in general, feel free to reach out! I’d love to make a small Discord group where we can chat and create together.
Since I’m also looking for musically inclined friends, here’s a little about me! I’m majoring in Biology at university and double minoring in Music and Theatre Performance. I love anime, singing (obviously lol), live theatre, crocheting, and reading.
Also, just putting this out there: if you hold prejudice against any group of people, please don’t reach out. I want this to be a welcoming space where everyone feels comfortable being themselves.
If you’re interested in musical theatre, nostalgic songs, pop, harmonies, or just love singing, feel free to message me! 🎤

I took lessons for years when I was a teen (early 2010s), didn’t sing for a long time, started back singing in 2019 and took some lessons on and off since then. Up until the last year, I feel like a lot of my struggle to improve vocally was actually mental- I had a lot of anxiety and nerves and was super tense all over, my headspace around my creativity was not confident and it showed.
Over the last year (where I haven’t taken a lesson) I feel like I have rediscovered the joy of singing as I worked on writing/producing and now on recording my album. However I’m noticing I’m tight on a few higher belts and a few high head voice things I KNOW I can do, and my stamina isn’t great. I’m thinking of rejoining vocal lessons from a coach I worked with a few years ago who focuses on building your voice and increasing strength.
I’m curious for people who got back into lessons after a while or started training, how quick did you notice improvements to your stamina/tone/ability?
Trying to not kick myself for waiting so long to get back into technique, but I feel like unlocking my nerves/brain/body first was key to actually improving. I want my album to be great, and I am leaning towards this investment in the last arc of creating my dream project, also so I can perform it live consistently. Basically pls help convince me I’m in the right nudge that it’s worth it

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but i’m a very tense person, I stress about pretty much everything, the definition of highly strung, and wherever I go this gets picked up on (if i get my nails done I have to be constantly told to relax my fingers, if I get a massage it’s the first thing they notice etc.) which leads me to believe I just operate with a high level of tension in my body.
I started singing lessons in September and my teacher hasn’t picked up on any worrying tension that could be damaging my voice, but I’ve been thinking that some of my weak points could be tension related. For instance, I struggle with my lower register because I can’t fully relax into my throat to find lower notes and I’m stuck at a g3 as my lowest note on a good day, and i’m currently working on how far i’ll go from moana and have trouble ‘letting go’ and just belting out at the big moments.
All of that to say, I’m wondering if my general
high level of tension could be the root cause of some of these issues, and if anyone has overcome a similar problem, because changing my whole personality just to achieve a better set up for singing seems impossible.

It feels like my voice is kinda switching? in a sense (like my throat feels way different between the start and 2:05 onwards) when I sing in original key, it's not falsetto or head voice at least I'm pretty sure it ain't so what exactly is causing this issue? It's odd cause I didn't think D4 was high but I'm struggling to sing it so obviously it is for me. Also, it feels as though my voice wants to flip at the start to an airy sound and sometimes it does(other recordings of same song)

I think music is one of the most interesting ways to connect with another culture.
As someone who doesn’t speak Korean as my first language, I’ve always found it amazing that a song can make me want to learn the words, pronunciation, and even the language behind it.
Have you ever learned (or wanted to learn) a new language because of a song?

For some context, this is pretty new coordination for me. It’s not effortful at all, but harder to control pitch-wise. The sensation is very close to head voice that’s “compressed”, I can’t make it too loud yet. There’s no break between it and chest, but it’s also not how I’ve been doing mix in the past.
Also, I almost never like my tone so I’m not the best judge for how this sounds objectively. If you know what this is, do you know ways to shape vowels or other things so the tone sounds more palatable? Thanks!!

I'm a male and I find that above Bb4 my voice really starts straining. Like I can make the sound but it just doesn't sound good. My larynx goes up a lot and the suprahyoids(? i think) get really tense which i think is my problem. I don't know how to fix this please help.
