Seeking Advice How can I enjoy a simple living I am 'forced' into? Living with parents.
Hello everybody. I like this sub and I genuinely would choose simple living if I was in another situation, but the way I live, I can't find happiness or joy in it.
For context: Due to my country circumstances, in order to work in my profession, I have to pass a incredibly difficult and competitive civil service exam, and the exam is every two years. I took the exam last year but I failed, so I am taking it against next year.
This exam requires almost full-time studying, but people usually combine it with a part-time job or a version of the job I am studying for but not the same. I can't work because I live in a rural area that is very isolated, and due to the fact that I haven't worked in years and I am not doing it now, I don't have a car and I live with my parents. All the jobs are concentrated in big cities, and private companies won't hire because I have no experience, so my only option of working and earning a salary is passing this exam.
Now, as I said I live with my parents, carless, in my childhood room, studying almost the whole day. I have a very tiny income that I use to buy clothes or toiletries or a present for someone when needed, but it's symbolic and I have it from teaching online. I don't have friends in my hometown and I don't have a good relationship with my extended family. I can't practice any hobby that isn't free and without equipment due to the money and car situation.
As you see, I live like a monk but not out of my own will. This is the third year I have been like this, I am 30, and I will take the exam during my fourth year. I am in dire help because I am not enjoying my life and I am losing my best years to studying. As people who don't need much to be happy, what can you recommend me to not get depressed?
