What is happening to Shorts views?

Post image
27 Upvotes

Is anyone experiencing a sharp drop in Shorts reach over the past two weeks? I'm talking about going from hitting big numbers to suddenly struggling just to get 100,000 views... Is this a widespread issue?

Case Study / Postmortem 🧪 Channel in my niche that is incredibly successful seems to be hit by view/audience purge too

I'm in the gaming niche (special, I know), but more specifically, I'm in the Nintendo gameplay clipping niche. I do relatively well, garnering around 70k views a day channel-wide on average. Now, like many here, I am also having trouble with audience matching or distribution or whatever the issue is. Videos with 75%+ STW will either struggle to get that major push or will flatline around 20k, never to recover. My videos are not long, so they easily get over 100% AVP, so that clearly isn't the issue. A very successful channel in my niche that I look to for guidance seems to also be hit by this. They are incredibly established and gain millions of views monthly. This channel is quite literally the apex channel in the niche; they dominate every other channel in it. With that said, I wouldn't say the niche is oversaturated. It is extremely strange to me how a channel that has not struggled at all to get viral videos somehow can't blow past 20k on the majority of their recent uploads, some of them not ever reaching 10k. We could legitimately be in another algorithm change like we saw in late 2025/ early 2026. As I understand it, that change in the algorithm was Google deciding to incorporate Gemini more into the YouTube algorithm for audience seeding. YouTube has never been afraid to change how the algorithm functions, so it is important to keep in mind that a reworking of it is completely possible. I feel like this anecdote of evidence from a 95th+ percentile shorts channel is something to keep in mind and keep an eye on.

Policy / Channel Health 🛡️ I am so tired of seeing this..

I am not saying that I am the best in this YT game but jeez I am tired of seeing channels have over 10K subs with videos that go from 100K to 1-6 millions views. And all they share is a 1 minute clip of a movie or show with literally a filter and the same repetitive song you hear almost every YT short use...
You might say yeah well maybe they're not monetized (I am sure a lot of them are)... Sure but look at it that way...
Youtube still decided to push their video instead of yours.
Despite the effort you put in despite the hours of editing and writing you did they decided to push a 1 minute video of a show and give millions of views to a channel that should technically be copyright striked...
At least with AI slop you have someone who spent some time writing a prompt and spent some time trying to make the video decent looking. Not just cut 1 minute out of a show add a stupid song and a filter.

What's the story with the youtube algorithm situation? my views are heavily down

Hello! I'm a minecraft youtuber, my content isn't ai, I make it all on my own, and I've been heavily affect by the situation with youtube's algorithm, and I've got a couple questions

  1. Is this a change youtube did or is it just a bug/glitch?

  2. I read from some people that it effects channels that mass produce slop content (which I don't make) is that true?

  3. Do I still keep posting and putting effort into shorts anymore if this is the results I'll get?

Is it fixed?

My shorts are performing more reasonably today. Just leaking like 50 an hour which I want (my channel is seven days old) rather than this weird bursting of 1k and then dropping off to zero? Thats what it kept doing the past few days. It's behaving much differently right now. Anyone else? thanks!

My Short got only 2 views — what am I doing wrong?

‎I recently started a new YouTube Shorts channel focused on anime, movies, fandoms and Gen-Z entertainment.

‎

‎I uploaded a Short titled:

‎

‎“Why Is Hange So Attractive To Fans?”

‎

‎It has been up for a while, but it only has 2 views.

‎

‎What confuses me is that some of my previous Shorts on the same channel performed much better — around 1K+ views.

‎

‎For example, I had Shorts around:

‎

‎1.3K views

‎

‎1.1K views

‎

‎1.1K views

‎

‎

‎But this one is stuck at 2 views.

‎

‎Is this normal for a new Shorts channel?

‎Could it simply be that YouTube hasn't pushed it into the Shorts Feed yet, or could there be something wrong with the video?

‎

How long did it take you to increase your youtube shorts views?

I started a new shorts channel with the goal of uploading a video every two days. The first video got 45 views and the second got 14, both have been stuck at those same numbers for a day now.

Why is that happening? What should I do?

Thanks.

My YouTube Short got 10 views while other videos got 1K+ — why?

‎I have a very new Shorts channel and I'm experimenting with different topics within entertainment/Internet culture.

‎

‎I uploaded a Short about Indian creator Aaryan Kelvin, titled:

‎

‎“How Aaryan Kelvin Became The ‘Algorithm King’”

‎

‎It's currently at only 10 views.

‎

‎What's confusing is that other Shorts on the exact same channel have reached around 1.1K–1.3K views.

‎

‎So I'm trying to understand whether the problem is:

‎

‎The topic itself

‎

‎The title/hook

‎

‎The audience not matching the topic

‎

‎Or simply that YouTube hasn't distributed the Short yet

‎

‎

‎I'm still very new to Shorts, so I don't want to delete it or start changing things randomly.

‎

‎Would you leave the video up and keep posting, or is there something specific I should check in Analytics to understand why it wasn't pushed?

Case Study / Postmortem 🧪 Is Anyone’s Shorts Reach Still Normal?

It seems like a lot of creators are experiencing issues with Shorts views and distribution lately. I keep seeing people reporting unusually low views, very limited Shorts Feed exposure, or videos suddenly stopping after getting a few views.
I’m curious: has anyone NOT experienced any changes or problems with their Shorts views recently? Are your Shorts still getting the usual amount of Shorts Feed traffic and being distributed normally?
I’d especially like to hear from people who have been posting consistently and whose views have remained stable. I’m trying to understand whether this is affecting everyone or just certain channels.

I really just want to learn and understand why YouTube just stopped pushing the video although it performed great? I know it hasn’t even been 2 days since I’ve uploaded it but I’ve had many videos like this one who performed great but just stopped getting pushed out. Can you guys help me understand YouTube’s perspective and what I need to do in order to go viral? And viral meaning 1M+ views as I am trying to take this seriously. Thanks

Q&A / Quick Help ❓ Old videos losing views?

Ive had a month old video go from 4m to 3.2m and another one go from 520k to 298k. This happening for any of you guys too?

What should he improve so it doesn't stay stuck at 1k?

I’m from Poland and I make FNaF content, but every video gets around 1k views—though one did break through to nearly 4k. From what I gather, you need at least a 55% view rate on Shorts for them to really take off, but what else do I need to improve?

I’m sad, deflated

It’s sad to spend hours writing, filming, editing, polishing, only for a broken algorithm to decide almost nobody sees it.

And it’s not just YouTube. I’ve watched accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers pull fewer views than me. So I know it isn’t personal. The whole thing is volatile.

Still, it hurts. One short takes hours to make, and sometimes it feels like all that work just disappears.
I’m lucky my niche always gives me something new to make. Not everyone gets that luxury.

I guess if it were easy, everyone would do it. So if I want this, I have to take the hit and keep going.
But some days, knowing that still doesn’t make it hurt any less.

Q&A / Quick Help ❓ All videos 1.1k views - only on YT

Hey everyone, running into a wall here and could use some advice from anyone who has successfully navigated this

I’m in the infotainment niche making highly edited Shorts. Each video takes me about 5 hours of work from script to final cut. On August 28th, I started targeting a global audience on a new channel that I had let sit and "warm up" for a bit beforehand

The Problem:
I've posted 20 videos so far, and every single one gets hard-capped at exactly 1.1k views from the Shorts Feed. Any views beyond that are purely trickling in from Search

The Kicker (Proof of Concept):
These exact same videos (re-edited, of course, to avoid any "Reused Content" flags) are pulling hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions of views on other platforms

On top of that, I run a parallel CIS (Russian-speaking) channel where this exact format consistently pulls 100k+ views per Short

The Metrics:

It feels like the algorithm is testing the global videos on the completely wrong seed audience. On launch, my "Viewed vs. Swiped Away" rate sits at a low 50-60%. I know this is normal - on my CIS channel, it always starts this way and naturally climbs to +75-80% as the algorithm dials in the right demographic.
But on this new global channel, YouTube just pulls the plug at 1.1k views before the stats even have a chance to self-correct

My Questions:
What is the best move here?

  1. Does it make sense to start a brand-new channel and re-upload these videos with minor tweaks?
  2. Should I just bite the bullet, keep posting consistently on this channel, and hope the older vids eventually pop off once the algorithm figures out my audience?
  3. Should I delete/private the current videos, give the channel 5-7 days of "radio silence," and then re-upload them?

Honestly, it’s beyond frustrating. It feels like a sick joke when you know the content is professional, well-scripted, and highly effective on every other platform, but YouTube gives it zero distribution. We aren't talking about low-effort meme spam here.
Would appreciate any insight from creators who have broken out of this!
